The success of the Christian Aid Bridge Walk would not happen were it not for the generous donation of time from the volunteers who make sure the walkers feel welcome and cheer them on.
This fiddle band provided their services free of charge, having travelled all the way from Dunoon to entertain the returning walkers as they recouperated on the grass in the sunshine. Even after crossing the Erskine Bridge twice, some walkers started an impromptu ceilidh, as the band played a great selection of old and new songs. Another splendid Chrysotoxum festivum – my second Scottish record for the year. This time it's a female – at The Saltings LNR, West Dunbartonshire. Jul 15 2011. ID is perhaps a little less clear-cut, but the bar on tergite 3 is definitely hooked towards the outer edge and it shows the yellow suffusion on the base of the wings that's mentioned in Stubbs. Let's hope it meets up with the male that I recently found in my Renfrewshire garden about six miles away!
