Took a moment to reflect on recent ventures whilst I was up the Old Kilpatrick hills a few weekends ago. As I was walking past the tree I noticed some moody storm clouds approaching that would make for a nice long exposure. I hope you enjoy and have a fantastic weekend.

The PS Waverley sails under the Erskine Bridge in West Dunbartonshire. A view from the Kilpatrick Hills.
PS Waverley is the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. Built in 1946, she sailed from Craigendoran on the Firth of Clyde to Arrochar on Loch Long until 1973. Wikipedia

November light breaks over the 1000ft “Lang Craigs” and down through the trees to “Overtoun House” (circa 1862) on the Old Kilpatrick Hills Dumbarton. This is a splendid hill walking area especially on a good day where from the top of the 1200ft “Doughnot Hill” a 360deg panorama of the surrounding area is rewarded.
The Erskine Bridge is a multi span cable-stayed box girder bridge spanning the River Clyde in west central Scotland.
The bridge connects West Dunbartonshire with Renfrewshire and can be used by all types of motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
As well as crossing the Clyde, the bridge also crosses the Forth and Clyde Canal and the North Clyde railway line. A small part of Kilpatrick railway station is situated underneath the bridge at the north side. The bridge is part of the A898 road. On completion the bridge replaced the Erskine to Old Kilpatrick ferry service.

While walking along the banks of the River Clyde at Old Kilpatrick, Scotland in the early morning, I came across this scene - the river grasses exposed by the low tide had frozen, while the reed beds and trees in the background were coloured deep red by the early morning sun. The small culvert under which the Dalnottar Burn flows added a focal point.

The former lock keepers' cottages at Bowling were designed by the distinguished Glasgow architect practice's of John Burnet, Son and Campbell and were built in 1896 on the Forth and Clyde canal, the oldest and longest canal in Scotland. Situated on the north side of the canal, they are the only Arts and Crafts lock keepers houses on the canal and were built for the Caledonian Railway Company, which owned the canal at the time. The houses are notable for having some fine Arts and Crafts decorative detailing and they form part of an important group of structures at the western entrance to the canal which includes the locks, the former customs house and the nearby bothy (all separately listed). This retention of their original context emphasises their association with the canal and is an important part of their interest. The houses also represent a time when the canal was developing due to the growth of the railway.

Looking west from the Erskine Bridge. The "Lang Dyke" can be clearly seen by the larger markers on the left of the straight section of channel. The wall or dyke helped maintain a navigable channel by concentrating the flow of the river to reduce silt deposits.
Greenock is the large settlement in the background, with the Cowal hills beyond.
At the site of the old Erskine Ferry which ended it's days when the Erskine Bridge was opened on 2 July 1971 by HRH Princess Anne.
