My "Gold Medal" hybrid tea rose is always the first to bloom in my rose garden every year. Now I know that spring is finally here. It looks like I will have a fine showing looking at all the buds about to burst out in the first flush of blooms.
The "Gold Medal" hybrid tea rose was first bred in 1982 in the United States by Jack Christensen, and later introduced to market by Armstrong Nursery. Jack is the youngest rose breeder to develop an All-American rose and he is credited with hybridising over eighty different types of roses. This rose was created by crossing elements from the roses Granada, Garden Party, and Yellow Pages. The result is a gorgeous yellowish rose that has rich copper accents, that ultimately fades to a soft cream color.
Spring has finally come to Melbourne after a long and grey winter, and everywhere, gardens are bursting forth with beautiful coloured blooms in a profusion of colours after a wetter than usual winter.
I visited a farm near us recently and was taken by how much fun the kids were having; all playing together and not a battery in sight. Caistor Centre, Ontario, Canada.
An old barn and silo stand empty along the gravel road on a foggy winter afternoon near the Delaware River in upper New Jersey.
I took an afternoon stroll in the autumn sunshine in May, and I walked past this beautiful bright pink rose basking in the sun, which is thriving in the well maintained garden of a stylish 1930s Art Deco clinker brick villa. It was crying out to be photographed.
Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour and ornamental vines.
Melbourne has experienced a wonderful Indian summer this year, and as a result, not only are there still plenty of beautiful blooms about, but the Autumnal colours are starting to appear.

It's Florida, so there's no snow, the tree is fake, the sun is shining, and the weather is as far from frightful as it can get. But best wishes to everyone on Flickr for a Very Happy Holiday and
a Most Successful 2018!
Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. Now however, it seems that summer has finally arrived, albeit late, with glorious days of summer sunshine that bring out beautiful blooms on all the flowers.
This includes my "Nahema" rose in my rear garden which grows by my back terrace. My garden is quite shady, but it does live in a spot where it gets afternoon sun.
"Nahema" was bred by Georges Delbard, in France, from "Grand Siecle" and "Heritage" in 1991 and released in France in 2006. "Nahema" has established a reputation as one of the best fragrant climbers on the market. It produces masses of highly fragrant and deeply cupped old-fashioned blooms with velvety petals of delicate almond blossom pink. This rose blooms in profusion throughout the season with a strong perfume of citrus, peach, apricot, pear and rose. The renowned perfume of the Guerlain range of perfumes is based on the essence of this rose.

New International Version
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
"This place of death became a place of life too, a place of saved lives, a hymn to the triumph of life over the prophets of destruction and death, to goodness over evil, to reconciliation and unity over hatred and division."

This outbuilding is on the Moses Van Campen homestead ca. 1816 in Pahaquarry Township, New Jersey. Though very crooked and worn now, a photo I saw from from the Historic American Buildings Survery in 1968 (before the farm was abandoned) shows the little barn was then perfectly neat and gleaming white. (The title is from an old church hymn that comforts people in difficult times. It was also the theme song of the "True Grit" movie remake a few years ago.)

I took an afternoon stroll in the spring sunshine the other day, and I walked past this beautiful apricot rose loom which is on a bush which is thriving in the well maintained garden of a stylish 1920s Art Deco stuccoed brick maisonette villa. She was hanging her head, protecting herself from the sunshine, or perhaps she was just being shy. Either way, I managed to capture her beauty by kneeling down before her and snapping away.
Melbourne has experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which is now bleeding well and truly into a wetter and greyer than average spring, however on the rare sunny days we are currently getting, the showing of flowers and blossoms is beautiful.
Packhorse Bridge at Wycoller, England
"Historians have argued about its age, but none of them are certain, but it is thought to either date from the 13th century or the 15th. Its construction is a bit of an oddity, in that the arches are not equal to each other and the structure’s base-stone boulders are not level, giving the bridge a somewhat precarious appearance."

Rescued a very underexposed shot here with post. The viewfinder on the old Ricoh ZF is somewhat obscured with a variety of once inquisitive vegetation, so framing is not so easy either.
Reading news from a magazine is more rare than ever since we spend most of our time in front of screens. The news are certainly updated but the sound of old paper is still sensational. It has been discovered our eyes get problems form all the time we spend in front of computers screens, mobile phones, game consoles etc. Perhaps a moment or two reading from paper could become a new trend?

You know that as a rule, I seldom comment on world events in my photostream. Flickr is my happy place where I escape from the wider world, which I find is becoming a harder, darker and scarier place with the passing of the years. However, I do make the occasional exception. The last time was when the war commenced in Ukraine. Today is another one of those exceptions.
Yesterday, several gunmen opened fire on a gathering of people of many faiths celebrating the lighting of the first candle of Chanukah on Sydney's Bondi Beach. Sadly, but hardly surprisingly considering the kind of attack it was, as of posting this image, 16 people have died, including one child, and 38 people are currently in hospital with varying levels of injuries. It saddens me so much, that I live in a world where such terrible things happen to innocent people, and I know that occurrences far worse than this happen around the world daily. I have only to tune in to my nightly news bulletin to see this for myself.
However, Flickr is my happy place, and I have no wish to pollute it with sadness and tragedy. Instead, I would like to express my sincerest wishes for peace and love to spread throughout the world. I have no peace dove, but I think this little Christmas sparrow with her sparkling, glitter decorated feathers is a very suitable stand-in. May she be the harbinger of peace, happiness, joy and love for you, and may she be a reminder that for all the ugliness in today's world, there is also much beauty to enjoy and celebrate!
Go forth my Flickr friends and followers, and spread the messages of peace, love, happiness, kindness, joy and beauty. You make my world a happier and more beautiful place, and for that I will always be grateful!

He knows what is in the darkness,
And light dwells with Him.
Melbourne has been blessed with some beautiful, sunny days this winter, which has made going for a suburban stroll a delight.
Much was my surprise when I came across this single burnt orange rose in full bloom atop a rose bush.
Could it be a sign of an early spring?
The playboy was a man who had two women fighting over him. As he remarked himself: "it’s great luck and company I’ve won me in the end of time - two fine women fighting for the likes of me".
Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter last year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. However, summer did eventually arrive, albeit late, with glorious days of sunshine that brought out beautiful blooms on all the flowers. This included my Elina Rose, which is one of the strongest rose bushes in my front garden.
Elina is a very prolific, constantly flowering Hybrid Tea rose bred in Northern Ireland by the Dickson family in 1983. It was released in 1984. Each rich cream coloured flower comprises around 25 petals. Elina’s perfect classic rose shape, long straight stems, mild fragrance and attractive foliage ensures it is a popular cut flower variety and sought after by florists.

A little boat passes under the Manhattan Bridge at sundown in Brooklyn, New York. How many others have traveled the same way through this scene since the bridge was completed in 1909?

This scene has remained the same for decades now but reminds us of farming in a simpler time. A time when a bigger farm was 4 sections(320 acres). Now, a farmer can't survive on that small a farm. The times, they are a changin'...HSS Everyone!
I have collected salt and demintasse (1/2 size teaspoons) spoons for some years. I did think I should have given these ones a quick polish but decided I liked them this way. The salt spoon in the centre is 1.27 cm (0.5 inches) wide. Five from my collection.
HMM!

Just Joey was bred by Cants of Colchester in England in 1972. It was named for the wife of the Managing Director of Cants of Colchester, Joey Pawsey. The bloom has a beautiful ripe apricot colour and pretty frilled petals which grow more informal as the flower expands. This bloom is only one day old. The Just Joey hybrid tea rose has a delicious perfume too!
Summer has finally come to Melbourne after a long and grey winter, and one of the wettest springs on record, and everywhere, gardens are bursting forth with beautiful coloured blooms in a profusion of colours. Yesterday had a beautiful golden hour of sunset which just gilded this bloom so beautifully.

According to the current theme, I was supposed to take a photo of something old-fashioned that I still enjoy doing. I absolutely miss typewriting. It was so cool the sound of a typewriter while it is operating. It is a pity that it is so difficult to find ink refill.
De acuerdo con el tema propuesto, tenía que tomar una foto de alguna cosa pasada de moda, pero que aún disfrute. Me gustaba mucho escribir a máquina. El sonido que hacían mientras estaban funcionando era fascinante. Es una pena que sea tan difícil de encontrar recambios de tinta.
