When you travel through many old cities around the world, you will often see manual water pumps. Usually they were simply preserved to add a little bit of "Olde Worlde" visual charm for the tourists. But Berlin has manual water pumps all over the city, they are all well maintained, and many of them are still fully functional. Some are ornate 19th Century pumps like this one on Schönhauser Allee in Prenzlauer Berg. But others, like many that I have seen in neighborhoods like Lankwitz or Steglitz look completely modern. But while signs warn you that you shouldn't drink the water that comes from them, they are still a nice place to quickly rinse the grime of the city off your hands.

If you want an education into English pursuits - this is one of them. The art of Morris Dancing - known and loved in folk circles. We stumbled across these dancers on our Boxing Day walk in Charlbury, Oxfordshire. They always dance outside pubs. We went inside for a swift one before our walk back home again. And a hey nonie no.
