Underside of ye olde spiral stairs at Warwick Castle...another blast from the past.
We stopped off here on the way back from a very disappointing trip to the British Grand Prix back in 2009...glad I went but wouldn't do it again - it's far better on the TV (or at least it was until Sky got their mits on it).
Warwick, UK.

Scene from the Enhuizen Zuiderzee Open Air Museum
( Buitenmuseum ), North Holland. Reenacting life from the 19th and 20th century: Laundry day.
The Zuiderzeemuseum is a museum located on the Wierdijk in Enkhuizen, in The Netherlands- devoted to preserving Enkhuizen's cultural heritage as well as the maritime history of the Zuiderzee, and since 1932, the IJsselmeer. Open year-round, it consists of an "indoor" and an "outdoor" museum, though the "outdoor" museum is only open in the summer. Enkhuizen was an important shipping port for centuries until the Zuiderzee was enclosed by the afsluitdijk in 1932. According to the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica:
“Enkhuizen possesses a considerable fishing fleet and has some shipbuilding and rope-making, as well as market traffic.”
The "outdoor" museum was completed in 1983 and it recreates a village of small houses from all over the IJsselmeer region and represents the way people lived in the IJsselmeer in the 19th century and at the start of the 20th centure.
Former Great Western Railway steam locomotive 4566 pulls away from Bridgnorth on the Severn Valley Railway (SVR). The 2-6-2T small prairie tank engine is hauling the 10.20 a.m. train from Bridgnorth to KIdderminster on Wednesday May 4th 2016. The train is approaching Oldbury Viaduct. This was my 1,000th photograph in the album: Severn Valley Railway Steam Trains. There was a cloudless sky in the morning with a temperature of about 11 deg C. ..pretty much perfect conditions for this much-photographed spot.
Still life done on a table top using a vintage map and a compass and editd in layers on Photoshop and On 1. X marks the spot.
A steam train on the Severn Valley Railway on a glorious autumn afternoon. This was Great Western Railway steam locomotive 2857 hauling the 12.05 train from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster on Sunday November 18th 2018. It is pictured here from the footpath near Dudmaston Hall approaching Hampton Loade station. The River Severn is hidden in the foreground by the trees. The Swindon-built locomotive was commemorating its 100th year in 2018.
Just across from Durham Cathedral, I'm guessing that this little street got its name after the Dun Cow carved relief on the side of the cathedral, which references the ancient Dun Cow legend.

The way things used to be. Former Great Western Railway steam locomotive 7802 "Bradley Manor" approaching Bewdley South Signal Box on the Severn Valley Railway. The manor was hauling a special charter train - the 2.15 p.m from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on the SVR Working Timetable on Tuesday April 19th 2016. The signalman is Severn Valley volunteer David Pugh. With the line closed to the public for the day, it was supposed to be a very quiet afternoon but there was a flurry of activity at Bewdley with a Class 50 diesel and train load of concrete sleepers ready to depart in Bewdley station, and a Class 20 diesel on the way. The locomotive is carrying the headboard Frank Cronin. This photograph was used on the front cover of Severn Valley Railway News, Summer 2016.
LMS Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 steam locomotive 43106, the Flying Pig, crosses the five brick arches of Oldbury Viaduct at Daniels Mill near Bridgnorth in Shropshire on the Severn Valley Railway on January 2nd, 2014. The locomotive is hauling the 12.10 train from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster. The working flour mill has the largest cast iron water wheel in England - at 38 feet in diameter. The history of the mill site dates back to the 15th century. I love this locomotive - and remember seeing many of its class in Lancashire and elsewhere in the 1960s before the end of BR steam. 43106 is the only survivor.
GWR pannier tank 7714 framed by the historic Daniel's Mill. The locomotive is hauling the 10.00 a.m. Enchanted Express from Bridgnorth to Highley on the Severn Valley Railway on Saturday December 14th 20024. It is criossing Oldbury Viaduct.
Tucked away in a corner of Palace Green in the shadow of Durham Cathedral, the lovely cottage setting of the Durham University Department of Music. The day I was there taking photos there was a lovely orchestral sound coming from this building.
Great Western Railway steam locomotive 2857 pulls away from Bridgnorth on the Severn Valley Railway (SVR). The Swindon-built Churchward 2-8-0 heavy freight engine is hauling the first train of the day - the 10.25 a.m. service with Gresley carriages to Kidderminster on Tuesday September 16th 2014. The morning mist had just cleared and the temperature was still low enough to give a good display of steam as the loco climbed the gradient and approached the tunnel at Knowlesands about 200 yards further along the line. Out of shot to the right are chalet style homes, and the railway banking here has been planted with flowers and shrubs. At this time of the year, the industrial estate to the left is largely hidden by foliage.
The range of colors and materials in this old Meon Valley Cottage tile and thatch roof is simply fascinating.
You can see where the tiles have slipped and have been patched, replaced or repaired over the years.

A shot of the Stone Trough Inn pub at Kirkham Abbey, North Yorkshire, England. A great cosy pub !!
This old thatched cottage has a highly decorated blocked ridge with a cockerel made of thatch on the top.
The Master Thatchers have their own style in decorating and personalizing their work as they are very proud of what they have achieved.
In a wild flower paradise - 43106 The Flying Pig crosses Oldbury Viaduct on the Severn Valley Railway. I had to lie down flat in mud to get this picture. The Ivatt Class 4 steam locomotive has just left Bridgnorth in Shropshire with the 12.25 train to Kidderminster on Sunday June 1st 2014 - a lovely sunny, warm day. Just visible under the brick arches is the 15th century flour mill - Daniel's Mill - and England's largest working cast iron waterwheel. The sound of wildlife here was wonderful as I waited for the Pig to arrive: birdsong, pheasants, bumblebees. There was a duck and newly hatched chicks. Dragonflies.
I saw this lovely cottage in the village of Didbrook in Worcestershire and felt it was worthy of a painting which I hope to hang in my living room,
Part of the bucolic charm of the countryside and life in small villages

Severn Valley Railway steam locomotive 43106 - known as the Flying Pig - heading north with an SVR footplate experience train on the afternoon of Friday August 26th 2016. This was the locomotive's second round trip of the day. I had photographed it about four hours earlier on the other side of the bridge and on the other side of the river. 43106 is pictured here on a very summery day crossing a swollen River Severn on the magnificent Victoria Bridge.
On the drive along the shopping area of the former historic copper mining town of Burra, in the mid-north of South Australia, the old buildings are still in good use today. The town was declared a State Heritage Town in 1994, and I certainly recommend it, and the surrounding area, as well worth visiting for a trip back into a bygone era.
I really appreciate all who visit to view, comment and/or fave my nature offerings from various parts of Australia. Thank you!

Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Just left of centre, the dark stone building with some stone pillars showing, is Whitby's 18th Century Town Hall.
It's now a Grade 11 Listed Building and was built almost 230 years ago, in 1788.
A super main thatched roof and ridge detail.
Also showing a living hedge being formed plus the tiled roof of an outbuilding

The 78xx Manor Class locomotive heads the 11:45 a.m train from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on Sunday June 1st 2014. This magnificent brick arch viaduct overlooks the Shropshire tourist attraction Daniel's Mill which has England's largest working cast iron waterwheel to make flour. The wheel is visible under the centre arch.

This front door is the most amazing yellow I have ever seen. It really stands out and makes you feel happy just by looking at it.

The Flying Pig 43106 framed by a mighty oak on the Severn Valley Railway. The Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 steam locomotive is hauling the 10.30 a.m. train from Kidderminster in Worcestershire to Bridgnorth in Shropshire. The Pig is pictured heading up the bank between Victoria Bridge and Arley station on a warm and sunny Tuesday morning - 17th May 2016. Lovely set of blood and custard carriages with the observation saloon at the rear.
On a sunny May morning, small prairie tank locomotive 4566 pulls away from Bewdley station on the Severn Valley Railway in Worcestershire. This was the 10.20 a.m. train from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster on Wednesday May 4th 2016 - which I had photographed 40 minutes earlier near Oldbury Viaduct. To the right of the water tower is tank engine 1501, GWR manor class loco 7802 Bradley Manor and the SVR's DMU.
East Farleigh Railway Station, situated near Maidstone in Kent. A good, traditionally English station, with a couple of guys looking at stuff close-up in a meaningful way, before heading home again.
