Just across from Durham Cathedral, I'm guessing that this little street got its name after the Dun Cow carved relief on the side of the cathedral, which references the ancient Dun Cow legend.

A steam train on the Severn Valley Railway on a glorious autumn afternoon. This was Great Western Railway steam locomotive 2857 hauling the 12.05 train from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster on Sunday November 18th 2018. It is pictured here from the footpath near Dudmaston Hall approaching Hampton Loade station. The River Severn is hidden in the foreground by the trees. The Swindon-built locomotive was commemorating its 100th year in 2018.

LMS Ivatt Class 4 2-6-0 steam locomotive 43106, the Flying Pig, crosses the five brick arches of Oldbury Viaduct at Daniels Mill near Bridgnorth in Shropshire on the Severn Valley Railway on January 2nd, 2014. The locomotive is hauling the 12.10 train from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster. The working flour mill has the largest cast iron water wheel in England - at 38 feet in diameter. The history of the mill site dates back to the 15th century. I love this locomotive - and remember seeing many of its class in Lancashire and elsewhere in the 1960s before the end of BR steam. 43106 is the only survivor.

The way things used to be. Former Great Western Railway steam locomotive 7802 "Bradley Manor" approaching Bewdley South Signal Box on the Severn Valley Railway. The manor was hauling a special charter train - the 2.15 p.m from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on the SVR Working Timetable on Tuesday April 19th 2016. The signalman is Severn Valley volunteer David Pugh. With the line closed to the public for the day, it was supposed to be a very quiet afternoon but there was a flurry of activity at Bewdley with a Class 50 diesel and train load of concrete sleepers ready to depart in Bewdley station, and a Class 20 diesel on the way. The locomotive is carrying the headboard Frank Cronin. This photograph was used on the front cover of Severn Valley Railway News, Summer 2016.

Great Western Railway steam locomotive 2857 pulls away from Bridgnorth on the Severn Valley Railway (SVR). The Swindon-built Churchward 2-8-0 heavy freight engine is hauling the first train of the day - the 10.25 a.m. service with Gresley carriages to Kidderminster on Tuesday September 16th 2014. The morning mist had just cleared and the temperature was still low enough to give a good display of steam as the loco climbed the gradient and approached the tunnel at Knowlesands about 200 yards further along the line. Out of shot to the right are chalet style homes, and the railway banking here has been planted with flowers and shrubs. At this time of the year, the industrial estate to the left is largely hidden by foliage.

The Master Thatchers have their own style in decorating and personalizing their work as they are very proud of what they have achieved.

I saw this lovely cottage in the village of Didbrook in Worcestershire and felt it was worthy of a painting which I hope to hang in my living room,

In a wild flower paradise - 43106 The Flying Pig crosses Oldbury Viaduct on the Severn Valley Railway. I had to lie down flat in mud to get this picture. The Ivatt Class 4 steam locomotive has just left Bridgnorth in Shropshire with the 12.25 train to Kidderminster on Sunday June 1st 2014 - a lovely sunny, warm day. Just visible under the brick arches is the 15th century flour mill - Daniel's Mill - and England's largest working cast iron waterwheel. The sound of wildlife here was wonderful as I waited for the Pig to arrive: birdsong, pheasants, bumblebees. There was a duck and newly hatched chicks. Dragonflies.

Severn Valley Railway steam locomotive 43106 - known as the Flying Pig - heading north with an SVR footplate experience train on the afternoon of Friday August 26th 2016. This was the locomotive's second round trip of the day. I had photographed it about four hours earlier on the other side of the bridge and on the other side of the river. 43106 is pictured here on a very summery day crossing a swollen River Severn on the magnificent Victoria Bridge.

Two reasons why,

It looks very difficult and with the restrictions being eased I get out more in the morning, weather permitting of course.

Located in Cathedral Close, Exeter, is the timber framed 'Mol's Coffee House', dated 1596. The building was named after Thomas Mol, an Italian, at a time when coffee had perhaps not even been properly introduced into England.

Devon born explorer and buccaneer Sir Francis Drake is said to have used Mol's as a meeting place with people such as Frobisher, Greville, Hawkins & Sir Walter Raleigh.

It may have even been during such meetings that Drake had planned how to foil the Spanish Armada. Drake was the fist English navigator to sail around the World ; between 1577 and 1580.

Clovelly is one of the most photographed villages in the world with just one very steep cobbled street. If you're going down, the street's called Downalong and if you're coming up its called Upalong.

After taking some photos down at the bottom, I got back to the car to find I'd left a bag down there. So two punishing and potentially coronary inducing climbs up Upalong. Would you believe it !?

( People who know me would say "YES!" to that one).
