The Hook Eagle Morris Men prepare to give it some stick.
Click on the photo to see it on black - much nicer!
Harrogate side street shot of an absolutely amazing old pub ; it is STILL gas-lit inside. Read about the famous 'Hales Bar', right here.

We went for a bite to eat and a drink in a pub restaurant, this lantern was on a window sill so I took a picture of it and gave it a bit of olde worlde treatment in Photoshop.
This old thatched roof is in need of some urgent TLC

Lovely Olde Worle Pub in Derbyshire. Kirk Ireton remains what it has always been, an agricultural village. Following the Second World War the number of working farms dropped from over thirty to half a dozen in the space of 40 years. The last cow was turned down Main Street in the late 1980s, but Rowlands, Markses, Walkers and at least two families of Fords still work their farms, as, in the case of the Fords and Walkers, they have done for countless generations. Many of the former farm buildings have been adapted into houses. Much of the older part of the village dates back to the 17th century and is mostly built from sandstone, quarried locally.
One of the oldest buildings in the village is the Barley Mow pub, which was one of the last premises in the country to accept decimalization, as the 87 year old landlady, Mrs Lillian Ford did not hold with the new money. The parish previously housed at least five other public houses; The Wheatsheaf, The Bull's Head, The Angel, The Windmill and The Gate.

(It'd make a good title for a story, methinks. )
Many thanks to Barry and friend for showing me round the office and for letting me take this photograph!

Couldn't resist taking this photo, beautiful olde worlde shop cum post office, lots of nick-nacks and trinklements in the window, like a days gone by department store, Silloth is a town that seems like it is stuck in the past, I don't mean that to offend anyone from there, but it seems to have got nothing there from todays modern world, that is a good thing, it's cobbled streets and quaint shops are very endearing, a most pleasant and relaxing place, a really MUST place to visit to wander around and gaze at the old buildings and sign posts, the friendliness of the people, although it's remoteness may put people off going there, but not a lot happening!
Shot of pub/hotel in Hawkshead, Cumbria on Christmas Eve afternoon. I don't know if the bicycling blokes were very bloomin' brave or just plain old barmy. That's solid thick ice you can see. It was waaaaaay below freezing and the temperature was dropping (fast) by the hour.
Another picture of Rattenburg, a city in Austria with a population of a mere 460 famous for it Kisslinger crystal factory. Cobbled streets and olde worlde houses, my type of place!
This is a view of Church Street from High Town in Hereford. This end of Church Street was referred to as 'Narrow Cabbage Lane' to distinguish it from the other half of the passageway where it is bisected by East Street.
This and the other shot of Church Street were part of an otherwise unsuccessful attempt at taking some decent HDR night shots of Hereford city centre's Christmas lights! They seem to have come out okay though so I'm not too disappointed...
Doesn't take much to cause traffic jams in the narrow cobbled streets of some small, old English towns such as Ullverston in Cumbria. Eh?
This deck is smaller than most, so it's difficult for me to read with (I'm tall and have big hands). The art is wonderfully olde-worlde. It reminds me of old stained-glass windows in medieval churches. Lots of color, lots of texture.
In the town of Weston Vermont is an old family run general store which is real treasure trove. A wonderful place if you want to step back in time. Lots of display units are either original or salvaged. It's beautifully laid out, and has about everything you might want from a 'general' store. Plus they are very generous on samples of their deli foods.
