Extremely low light but too pretty of a warbler not to post.
DuPage County, IL
This image was taken a few years ago, but has been waiting for its turn. This is a panorama taken from the top of a gondola ride in Banff Canada. Planning to go back here soon.
.. We Stand on Guard for Thee... And then we leave for Florida with the other Snowbirds. It was -6℃ at 7AM this morning.
(The term Snowbird is used to describe Canadians and people from the Northeast or Midwestern United States who spend a large portion of winter in warmer locales such as Arizona, Florida, or elsewhere along the Sunbelt region of the southern United States, areas of the Caribbean and even as far away as Australia and New Zealand.)
These three Canadian Geese were out for a flight on a beautiful morning at Frank Lake, Alberta, Canada

It's not difficult to understand why I'm still living in Canada 25 years later despite telling myself it would be my new home for 'probably just a couple' of years. We were lucky to still be able to go on vacation this summer, even though it wasn't the trip we had originally booked (cancelled due to Covid) but I am incredibly grateful to live in a location where you don't need to go far for views like this.
Wishing all my dear Canadian friends a joyous and wonderful CANADA DAY!
Fairview mountain looming over Lake Louise and several lucky paddlers as they paddle across those beautiful glacial waters.
"Canada Day, formerly known as Dominion Day, is the national day of Canada. A federal statutory holiday, it celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867, with the passing of the British North America Act, 1867, when the three separate colonies of the United Canadas, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada." Canada warbler. Two days on Mt. Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and on the way out, finally spied what I had been chasing.

This wagon, or van, is for the traveling country troubadour, Fred Tobin. I hadn't heard from him. On Southern BC [wine, fruit and veggie country], there was a summer festival with Elvis impersonaters. I don't think Mr. Tobin is one, but, as why Willy Sutton robbed banks, Mr. Tobin headed to where the action was.
More precisely: In the city of Kelowna, on the shore of huge Okanagan Lake, is surrounded by pine forests and provincial parks. The Okanagan Valley sure is beautiful!
Fresh powder along the Norfolk Southern Lurgan Branch made for an appropriate scene as train 16T came east with a Canadian National leader. The red-faced SD60 had all the buffs out for a Golden Hour chase as the sun started to paint the underside of the evening clouds.
CN 314 descends the Bala towards Toronto with a classic Canadian cab dash 9 in the lead. It feels fitting to post a uniquely Canadian locomotive on a day celebrating our sovereignty! Happy Canada Day everyone!
CN 314 with CN 2514, CN 2242
CN 149 rolls around a curve on the CN York sub with a lovely Classic Canadian duo. CN 2505 and CN 2509 (both C44-9WLs) are built with a unique "Canadian Comfort" safety cab, which is easily detectable with the 4 glass pane windows on the front of the cab. With a vast majority of CNs "Dash 8" fleet sitting in storage, this 1994 built duo is about as classic CN you can get right now.

While I couldn't cross the border into Canada (because of Covid protocols and the fact that I don't have a passport,) nature kept reminding me just how close I was....
Land of the 12 Foot Icicles...
Minus 43 degrees celsius tonight & tomorrow -45.4 Fahrenheit. Happy Groundhog Day... ours is tunneling to a warmer locale.
The Harris's Sparrow is the only North American songbird that breeds in Canada and nowhere else in the world. It also holds the distinction as being the second largest sparrow in the US with only the Spotted Towhee out-sizing it.
We do not have the Towhee sparrow in our state and mainly see the Harris's Sparrow during migrations. I captured this one off a country road after noticing its striking head.
