London has been the multicultural centre of Europe for hundreds of years. It has around seven million inhabitants who speak 300 different languages. One of its brightest examples is the Elephant and Castle area in South East London.
Alina has chosen to illustrate the Elephant and Castle map in order to celebrate the cultural richness and community diversity this area possesses. To visualise it, she has employed international folk-patterns with a variety of colour combinations.
This photo is a bit "Off the Wall" and perhaps ironic given the incident at the BRIT awards in 1996.
As a youngster Michael Jackson was part of my musical wallpaper. I wasn't his greatest fan but I did enjoy some of what he produced and as a DJ in the 80's/90's witnessed the pleasure his music gave to millions. As the Reve. Jesse Jackson said, "He was a deeply flawed but once greatly talented human being who has died."
these are my favorite shoes. i think you can tell. i can wear them to school and work. my job has a rule that our shoes have to be black or white...these are black AND white. no one has said anything to me yet so i'll keep wearing them until they wear slam out. they're not that great for my feet though, i should mayhap invest in some good work shoes. meh.
I made these 3 little Michaels as a way to say good bye to a man who I grew up with. His music filled my childhood, and my heart.
"You said the pink towels are for the ladies, now get lost--I'm gonna take a shower. I do hope you didn't use all the hot water this time."
Just Valerie again...I let her out for a change of scenery, but she didn't want to sit on my hand and apparently got bored on my desk after I wouldn't let her climb the monitor or the wall. :)
Greg Brown is a painter and native of Palo Alto, California, best known for his trompe l'oeil murals in the San Francisco Bay area. He sprang into national prominence with his "Pedestrian series of 1976." The project included 9 trompe l'oeil figures/vignettes sprinkled throughout the downtown area of Palo Alto, California. This experience spawned a love affair with walls that continues to this day.

Well, I guess I can deem this project a success. One of my photos officially made it onto an art gallery wall! The opening reception was tonight, and it was a juried show with a ton of entrants, and mine got selected to go on the wall, along with 47 other amazing artists.
I can't help but think part of it was that the dimensions of the piece are quite small, so it fit nicely onto the wall. But still... pretty amazing!
The best part is that every Monday until the end of the year, as I sip my beer after an ACT UP meeting, I can look at my art on the wall!

Got a chance to shoot on the North Shore today and decided to head to the Pipeline-Backdoor-Off-the-wall area, instead of watching the surf contest finals at Haleiwa. Some folks out here today were tearing holes in the waves and I tried diligently to capture that action. I was using a slower shutter speed for most of the shots and trying to show the motion and ferocity of these surfers. Here are a few of the results... As always, "Thanks" for visiting my photostream and leaving any comments about my pictures. Have a great rest of the weekend!
