A beautiful spring day exploring the back roads and landscapes of Baker County Oregon near the towns of Keating and Baker City.
Spent the day watching the seasons change in Eastern Oregon, with big dramatic skies. Lots of baby calves beginning to arrive on the nearby ranches, and while it’s a little early for spring migration still but spotted a few fun birds including lots of Red Tail Hawks and several nesting great horned owls.

Nye Beach in Newport, Oregon. Fun little beach with some shops and dining. It was “COVID Quiet” like many other places we stopped. We sat on a bench at the turnaround just above the beach and enjoyed the view. Easy parking, easy access to the beach. And the few people we saw were friendly. It was a great stop.

Sunrise over Civita di Bagnoregio, situated on top of a hill in the valley of the badlands (Valle dei Calanchi), in Viterbo province, Lazio region, central Italy.
Civita di Bagnoregio was founded by the Etruscans more than 2,500 years ago. It was, for a time, part of the Etruscan's principle route to Rome. Nowadays it is famously known as "the dying city" due to the progressive erosion of the foundation beneath the town.

The Burnt River Canyon near Durkee is always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way. Close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region lies the Arsha Waterfall, about five kilometers from Stepantsminda Kazbegi. The hike to the waterfall is considered easy and typically takes three to four hours. The trail is unpaved but well-trodden, surrounded by lush meadows, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The waterfall is one of the lesser-known natural attractions in the area, contributing to its untouched and serene atmosphere. A bit further along is the Toti Waterfall, accessible via a steep trail that passes above the Arsha Waterfall. This waterfall offers spectacular panoramic views and is an ideal spot for a picnic. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility, the breathtaking nature, and even take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. For adventure seekers, it's possible to continue the hike to the nearby Gergeti Glacier, making the journey a full-day excursion.
The journey to the waterfall close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region is a true challenge, yet also a breathtaking experience. The trail winds through rugged, arid terrain with steep inclines and loose rocks. Hikers must be well-prepared, as certain sections can be demanding and exhausting. The Toti Waterfall is less known and therefore quieter, adding to its pristine and serene atmosphere. The Toti Waterfall cascades down a steep rock face, surrounded by rugged cliffs and alpine vegetation. The crystal-clear water and stunning surroundings make it an ideal spot for nature lovers and hikers seeking adventure. The waterfall is accessible via a steep trail that runs above the Arsha Waterfall, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys along the way.

Luosto is a scenic tourist destination located in the heart of Lapland, Finland. It is particularly popular for its beautiful natural environment, with extensive forests, hills and impressive scenery that attracts visitors in both winter and summer. Luosto is located in the middle of the rugged Lapland landscape. In winter, the forests are covered with a thick layer of snow and offer excellent opportunities for activities such as skiing, snowmobile tours and husky rides. The Pyhä-Luosto National Park is known for its spectacular fjells mountains and untouched nature. Hiking trails lead to the top of the Pyhä-Luosto Fjell, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness. Luosto is also home to one of the world's only active amethyst mines. Visitors can participate in guided tours and look for amethyst stones themselves, a unique and fun experience. Luosto is an excellent location to see the Northern Lights, especially during the,b>cold winter evenings when the sky is clear. The dancing lights are a magical spectacle that attracts many visitors. In addition to winter sports in Luosto, there are also cozy restaurants and accommodations to enjoy the local cuisine and relax after a day full of adventure. Luosto is a destination that will appeal to nature lovers and adventurers alike, offering a unique combination of Arctic wilderness and exciting outdoor activities. It is an ideal place to enjoy the peace and beauty of Lapland, away from the hustle and bustle of urban areas.
Luosto is a well-known tourist destination in Lapland, Finland, situated in the municipality of Sodankylä. It is celebrated for its stunning natural surroundings, winter activities, and the Pyhä-Luosto National Park. In January, daylight hours are very short due to the polar night, a phenomenon occurring in areas above the Arctic Circle, including Lapland. We set out early in the darkness on our journey to Luosto. Our plan is to climb its spectacular fjells (mountains) and explore its pristine wilderness. Our adventure starts at the secluded hamlet of Ukko-Luostontien in Luosto. In Finland, traditional wooden houses are often referred to as "wooden cabins" or "wooden chalets." The Finnish word for a wooden house is puutalo. The snow here resembles an untouched white carpet, with trees draped in a thick layer of powder snow. Every step disrupts the serene silence of the snowy surroundings; the crunching sound of fresh snow under my hiking boots fills the air. The trees gently bend under the weight of the snow, and nature here in Luosto appears to be in a deep winter slumber. .

Somdet Phra Maha Muni Si Phu Kha Pagoda is a beautiful gem on top of a majestic mountain that lies at the beginning of the enchanting Doi Phu Kha National Park. This small pagoda is in an idyllic location with a beautiful view of the mountain peaks and a well-tended garden. At an altitude of no less than 1700 meters above sea level, the air is characterized by its freshness and clarity, resulting in a pleasant temperature of about 22 degrees Celsius. Staying in the mountains of Nan province offers travelers a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. It is also a great way to experience the local culture and the hospitality of the Thai people. Photo of a view of the banana trees, majestic mountains and scenic plantations surrounding Doi Phu Kha National Park is truly breathtaking. The National Park is also home to the highest mountain peak in the province. The highest point is also called Doi Phu Kha at an altitude of 1,920 meters. If you are traveling to Doi Phu Kha National Park from Nan, I will definitely recommend staying here for a night. Most of the year the weather is nice and the view is stunning early in the morning. A moderate intensity nature trail with a large map detailing the route starts behind the National Park Visitor Center and continues for 2km, ending at a small village. The most beautiful is the viewpoint with a very large 1715 digits representing the height of the point. There is also a campground near the area. But you have to bring your own tent. It takes about 2 hours to complete. However, there is definitely some climbing to do. Please wear trekking boots for the hike. The monsoon is not the best time to do this as there are many leeches and other reptiles that you may not appreciate. Photo of Kanitha, BieJee, Samantha and Casper at an altitude of 1,715 meters.

Big Horn Sheep in Burnt River Canyon in Baker County
A beautiful New Year’s Day exploring the Burnt River Canyon and watching wildlife between Durkee and Unity in Baker County Oregon with lots of Bighorn Sheep out to help us ring in the new year.
The Burnt River Canyon near Durkee is always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way. Saw lots of wildlife this trip as colder temperatures have pushed lots of deer down into the canyon. We were excited to spot a few Bighorn Sheep in rut during this trip

Along Norway’s scenic Route 17 — known as Kystriksveien — the road clings to the mountainside above the majestic Sjona Fjord. This stretch between Nesna and Mo i Rana offers dramatic views of steep cliffs, snow-patched peaks, and the vast Arctic coastline.
Fun fact: Kystriksveien is considered one of the world’s most beautiful coastal drives, with over 650 kilometers of road weaving through fjords, islands, and mountains, and it includes six ferry crossings."
