Katni's EMD WDG4D #70420 at Indore Junction (new platform 5 - a considerable distance from the main station complex) with train 14317, the 15:00 Saturday/Sunday's only Express to Dehradun. Sunday 5th March 2017.
Until the latter months of 2016 this had been a Northern Railway's ALCo turn but since planning and booking my trip TKD WDP4s had become annoyingly prevalent, so I was half expecting an EMD anyway. Somewhat ironically, as it transpires, I was unlucky: with the recent electrification of Dehradun the route north of Gwalior is fully wired and the inevitable switch to electric traction has occurred, 14317's power has reverted to ALCo (Ratlam) for the run up to GWL - it seems I was simply bowled by an offlink! Grrr. Needless to say my planned 16 hour and 700 kilometre overnight to Mathura went in the bin!

With regular link changed from Pune ALCos to Hubli EMDs for 22133 SUR YPR SF Express, I went to capture this expecting a great honking LHF EMD. But the Erode ALCo WDM-3D 11111 says Hola !!!

Dehradun bound Shatabdi from New Delhi accelerates through Dhandera after its scheduled halt at Roorkee. At the helm is offlink from Gomoh, a WAP7.
I used to frequently photograph this train during my railfanning sessions in Roorkee, with Dhandera station being my starting point. I started my journey of capturing trains, from this very place.
This particular shot was taken when I returned to Roorkee for my convocation, two months after bidding farewell to the place. The experience was nostalgic, evoking memories of the magic from the old days. It definitely warrants another trip to this section.

Kanpur WAG-7 # 27448, an offlink with 2 hrs late running Allahabad bound Muri Exp on Mughalsarai - Allahabad Main Line tracks. It gets its loco changed at Chunar Jn. Ill fated 3.30 hrs late running and Jhansi bound Chambal Exp can be seen on the right side.

Offlink, the Trivandrum Rajdhani gets an absolute stunner! The Rajdhani special, which operates three times a week from India's national capital New Delhi to Kerala's state capital Thiruvananthapuram, is hauled by a single WDM3A ALCO Locomotive from Vatva, which gets its Diesel Traction from Vadodara. The sky was as blue as it could get! The Ernakulam WDP4D is the train's usual link.
The fastest train in India is the Bhopal Shatabdi Express(Train number 12002) which touches 150kmph on theTughlakabad- Mathura section (as per info by Chaitanya Mangesh Gokhale and Trayambak Ojha )
and is considered fastest both in terms of average speed for end to end journey and also for attaining the highest speed for any train in India at any point during the journey. The usual link (i.e. the the usual loco /engine) given for this train is a WAP-5 class loco of Ghaziabad Electric Loco Shed,the WAP-5 class of locos are the fastest locos on Indian Railways at present . On 9-June-2012 ,the allotted WAP-5 loco failed near Karonda/Agasod on Jhansi-Bhopal section and the train was delayed by around 4 hours.And in place of WAP-5,WAG-5A multiple unit (multiple unit means when 2 or more locos attached together to get more power, in this case TKD WAG-5A 23314 and 23251 ) took charge and brought the train upto Bhopal .Later , a WAP-4 (Vadodara WAP-4 22679 ) class of loco took charge of the train for its return journey to New Delhi.
