He received his calling in a small church (La Porzincula) now housed in a large church called Santa Maria degli Angeli in what used to be the wooded area at the foot of Assisi. He and his companions often meditated in a monastery within the rocks of the mountains above Assisi called Eremo delle Caceri to be close to the Earth. When he died he requested that his remains be placed on a hillside formerly known as la collina del'inferno (the hill of hell) where executions used to take place. The grand basilica of St. Francis was built on this hill now known as la collina del paradiso (the hill of paradise) where his body was placed four years after his death. The famous Umbrian painter Giotto created 28 frescoes telling his life story on the upper level of the church while Saint Francis' tomb is on the lower level.

NEoN welcomes Tale of Tales to discuss their first videogame: The Endless Forest, a virtual world where people enjoy each other’s company regardless of language, status, age, gender or ethnicity, and Simon Meek, founder of The Secret Experiment, who is V&A Dundee’s first Designer in Residence and will share thoughts on his practice as a mixed-media storyteller. Chaired by Professor Sarah Cook (University of Glasgow).
About the Speakers
Martine Neddam (NL) Keynote speaker – Martine is a native of France resident in Amsterdam since 1994, is an artist, research scientist and professor. She has been working with virtual characters since 1996, the first and most famous being Mouchette, a fictive thirteen-year-old, one of the earliest examples of Net Art.
Karin de Wild (NL) Keynote Speaker chair and respondent - Karin de Wild is a researcher and curator with a background in heritage studies. After working as a curator for a Dutch private collection, she recently finished her doctoral research Internet Art and Agency: The Social Life of Online Art (2018).
Tale of Tales (BE) – Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn met online in the romantic age of cyberspace. Separated by an ocean they created applications that allowed them to touch among the wires. Samyn and Harvey are currently remaking The Endless Forest so that it can live another decade and provide a new generation of players with a joyful haven in cyberspace.
Simon Meek (UK) – V&A Dundee’s first Designer in Residence, mixed-media storyteller and founder and creative director of The Secret Experiment: videogame development studio and label of meaningful distractions. His most recent work, Beckett, is an abstract retelling of a missing person’s case where the investigator finds himself caught between the life he once had and that which he now lives.
Daniel Herron (UK) – Daniel’s research interests lie in how technology can positively impact life experiences, and his PhD work specifically focuses on how technology can support people in managing their digital things after a romantic relationship break up.
Caitlyn Main (UK) Caitlyn practice operates from a state of uncertainty: through sustained linguistic unravelling and temporal installation, she presents works that speak of intimacy, agitation and balance. She accommodates, and indeed, propagates conditions encouraging fragility: every piece has the potential to collapse in on itself, and contains obvious indications of temporality.

A nice case of "happenstance" . For many years I had always wanted to visit this centre for the photographic opportunities it offers but for various reason I was not travelling at a weekend or during a school holiday. Today however that all changed. We had been staying at "The Lansdowne" on Eastbourne seafront for a few days but today 27/10/2021 we wre returning home. I started by taking the very scenic route up over Beachy Head, through Seaford to Newhaven,Lewes and on to Sheffield Park. I stopped at the Bluebell Railway for about 15minutes and just in time to see 30925 Cheltenham leave with the Noon to East Grinstead. The sun was out and the loco shining, great thrills. A half mile up the road is S Park NT and we got into the entry queue but then discovered they were only allowing in pre booked visitors and of course I hadn't! So we plodded on up the hill onto Ashdown Forest and home of WP ( Winnie the Pooh) . We need somewhere for a loo and possible food and got well past East Grinstead before we stumbled on The British Wildlife Centre. I had always wanted to visit so we stopped and the place was having a record breaking visitor experience and the cafe was chaos with most of the food sold out and very noisy. We had mediocre pasties and hot drinks. The initial unhappiness was waived away when we went on to see the animals that were fascinating and although in reality a small zoo the creatures were displayed sympathetically and openly. The Red Squirrels were beautiful and watching a family of Stoats chasing was amazing.
We left about 3pm and soon were on a very slow tedious M25 that only stopped a few times. I stopped for Jane at Cobham services and collected soup for supper.
Offered him some ants just to see but the ball was more interesting.
Cinco got left on the shelf last night. Looks like it's his new playground. I though she mistakenly left him there after she ate but she maybe did it on purpose as she looked at him later but didn't come get him.
I waited till he tired out and quit playing then I put him back in the hammock with Aurora.
I guess Aurora needed a break or expected him to climb in on his own. When I put him back he went right to nursing. He got left a couple more times too but once she came back and he got on and the last time she asked me to get him for her. She couldn't get him to climb back on when she visited the clothes basket so left him but then complained till I put him back in the hammock with her.
