Built in 1892-1894, this Richardsonian Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Theodore Link for the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis to serve as a Union Station for multiple railroads that offered passenger service in the city at the time. The building consists of three sections, those being a head house, a large train shed, and a midway between the two. The head house is clad in granite with a rough-hewn rusticated base, rough-hewn belt coursing, hipped, gabled, and conical red terra cotta tile roofs, cylindrical turrets, a clock tower with an octagonal turret and pyramidal hipped roof, arched window bays on the second floor and the third floor, Chateauesque wall dormers, stone terraces with stone railings and metal lampposts flanking the main entrance at the exterior of the Grand Hall, a large suspended metal canopy at the main entrance, and buff brick and brown brick cladding on the rear and side facades. The interior of the head house originally housed a hotel, lunch room, ticketing facilities, and offices, as well as a large waiting room, known as the Grand Hall, which features a barrel vaulted ceiling with decorative stenciling and plasterwork, arches with decorative sculptural reliefs, arched bays on the walls, green tile wainscoting, stained glass windows, terazzo floors, around which are hallways with decorative ceilings, marble and tile wainscoting, decorative plasterwork, columns with decorative capitals, and decorative fireplace surrounds. The Train Shed is a large metal-frame structure with a barrel vault roof, skylights, and roof monitors, which originally housed multiple train platforms, and today houses multiple buildings that contain a hotel, aquarium, and mirror maze. The midway, between the two larger structures, features a metal truss roof with skylights, brick and drywall walls, marble floors, fountains, balconies, and window openings from the surrounding structures. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, and was designated a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1981. The last passenger train service at the station was in 1978, after decades of declining ridership, and the building languished until 1985, when it was rehabilitated and renovated for adaptive reuse as a hotel, shopping mall, and food court under the direction of HOK and Conrad Schmitt Studios. The hotel today is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, and the train shed houses the St. Louis Aquarium, a Mirror Maze, multiple restaurants, and a carousel.

The Jigokudani Monkey Park offers visitors the unique experience of seeing wild monkeys bathing in a natural hot spring. The park is inhabited by Japanese Macaques, which are also known as Snow Monkeys. It is located in the monkey's natural habitat, in the forests of the Jigokudani valley in Yamanouchi, not far from the onsen towns of Shibu and Yudanaka.
The park has one man-made pool around which the monkeys gather, located a few minutes' walk from the park entrance. Visitors will likely already encounter monkeys along the path to the pool. The monkeys live in large social groups, and it can be quite entertaining to watch their interactions. Accustomed to humans, the monkeys can be observed from very close and almost completely ignore their human guests. Naturally, it is prohibited to touch or feed the monkeys.
The park has a small information center with information mostly in Japanese. However, there is a small explanation of the alpha male system of the monkey troop in English, as well as portraits of the park's present and former alpha males, dating back dozens of years. Although the park is open all year round, the bathing monkeys are particularly photogenic when the area is covered in snow. There is usually snow in the region from December to March, and the best timing for a visit is January and February. Monkeys enter the bath around the year, but they sometimes need some encouragement to do so by park wardens throwing food into the pool, especially during the warmer seasons of the year.
Jigokudani, in which the park is located, means "hell valley" and is a common name for Japanese valleys with volcanic activity. Although its landscape is not as dramatic as some of Japan's other jigokudani valleys, Yamanouchi's Jigokudani does produce a few steaming hot springs. There is a ryokan called Korakukan in the valley, which visitors will pass along the way to the monkey park.

This lens will definitely allow more options & flexibility for photography & video needs. I also shoot with a Canon 7D & 5D Mark 2, seriously wanted to upgrade to the Mark 3 but didn't see much of a need just yet and have a variety of lenses for each camera. Artist's statement
This week, Nonthando of Cape Argus called me to review le beau Cap hair in relation to the Cape Town hair and beauty show. She put me in connection to Maggie who offered a space at the venue, and the help of Lizel to organise. I decided to summarize all my hair photography experience in a 6 panel wall. Marlon of Orms helped with a few prints and Jo-Anne of Deckle edge with the stationary and suggested to pre-set the exhibit on cardboard rolls matching the exhibition panels. The wall you see is the fruit of our common work.
To sum up my Le beau cap hair experience…
It all started as I realised fine hair details and patterns were as interesting as details of flower cores I was capturing as part of Le beau Cap en couleurs and Namaqualand colours. I started investigating the idea and soon found myself stopping people everywhere in Cape town to capture the beauty of their hair. People were generally surprised as they did not expect their hair any beauty worth capturing. But then when seeing the picture of the beauty I saw in their hair, they were somehow happier… I only captured hair, to limit the importance of face, eyes in the picture and focus on hair beauty for itself, not as as attribute to face.
When Africa International Hair extravaganza offered the opportunity to exhibit, and the portfolio was covered by SA Hair dresser Journal and Estetica Afro, it forced me to summarise a few thousands of images into a few the common themes, that drive our eye to see beauty in hair. Since this experience, my eyes have opened to hair beauty, and I have continued capturing hair beauty. I hope to open your mind to see the beauty in people’s hair as it will change the way you see people, for the better.
In this exhibit, I have taken from my long term themes, eg colours and contrast, simple and complex lines and patterns, resonance with the environment or landscapes. And I have introduced a few new ideas eg inspiration from plants to design hair, Mandela lines creativity, and compare face off images to full body full face ones.
Visitor, I invite you to interact with the exhibit, select your preferred pictures, give them a title, colour the images to create your own hair designs, pick images to decorate your salon. Show your hair in front of Lions head and compete to give the Lion the best head rest … Come and play, be creative and enjoy the show !
