“It Takes a Village” is a literacy opportunity offered through a joint grant from Elon University that uses a collaborative approach to assist elementary students who struggle to read.
Children and Winston-Salem State University students enrolled in the RED 3309-W1 course (Teaching Reading in the Elementary School K-2) are paired for weekly tutoring sessions in the media center at Forest Park Elementary School in Winston-Salem.
While in an education environment, rich with available resources, the pre-service teachers will assess the individual reading challenges of the children and provide their parents with different techniques they can use at home to help improve reading skills. The Village provides a rare opportunity for prospective teachers to learn how to work not only with young students, but also with parents and guardians.
On Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, from 10:30 AM-12:30 PM the pre-service teacher participants from Winston-Salem State University will meet with the pre-service teacher participants from Elon University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The purpose of this Literacy Project Consortium Event is to dialogue about their experiences, and to share success stories of their teacher-student-parent tutoring partnership. Each participating institute of higher learning will also invite one parent and child to attend this event. Lunch will be provided for all.

Navaraathri literally means nine nights. The nine nights are divided into three nights each dedicated for Goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathy.
Navaraathri began on 28th of September 2011. But this year only two nights were dedicated to Goddess Durga.
Special poojas are held at the temples. Hindus celebrated Saraswathy Pooja at homes at dusk. Homes were purified, decorated with fresh flower garlands and Kolam.
Many savouries such as Aval, boiled and fried chick pea, sweet rice, vadai, and variety of fruits are offered to the Goddess on this special day.
Books, equipments used for profession, musical instruments are kept in front of the deity Saraswathy for her blessings.

The temple which continuously suffered due to terrorist attacks over 30 years, had its Vihara Mandiraya newly built at a cost of Rs. 30 million. The President who visited the Chief Priest of the temple and Chief Prelate of the two divisions of East Thamankaduwa of the Amarapura Chapter, Ven. Ampitiye Seelawangsha Tissa inquired after his well-being and obtained his blessings. The President also made a symbolic distribution of land deeds to some members of the public from the Wehera Grama Niladhari Division.

THE BMW 2002
The foundation of BMW's post-war resurgence was the Neue Klasse four-door 1500 saloon and its derivatives, the company capitalizing on their success with the launch of a revised two-door range in 1966. Like the earlier cars, the new 1600 (later 1602) featured unitary construction, all-independent suspension and front disc brakes. All variants came with the Munich firm's dependable, single-overhead-camshaft, 1,573cc, four-cylinder M10 engine under the bonnet, which despite its humble origins would go on to form the basis of a turbo-charged 1,000-horsepower Grand Prix unit and Formula 1 World Championship winner. A two-door car, the 1602 was less expensive than the four-door saloon on which it was based. The model made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March 1966 as the '1600-2' and remained in production until 1975. As installed in the 1602, the M10 engine produced 85bhp, which was good enough for a top speed of around 100mph, with 60mph attainable in 12 seconds.
Demands for increased power, not least from the firm's US importer, Max Hoffman, led to the introduction of the 2002 in 1968. BMW's director of product planning, Helmut Werner Bönsch, and Alex von Falkenhausen, the M10's designer, had already had 2.0-liter engines installed in their personal 1602s, and proposed to BMW that the company should build a production model along similar lines. Enter the 2002 Tii. The Tii stood for Touring International and Injection. The larger, 1,991cc engine produced 130bhp at 5,800rpm with mechanical fuel injection over its predecessors' 120bhp on twin Webers in the 2002 Ti. Models available on the 2002 platform comprised a two-door saloon, three-door Touring estate car, and a Cabriolet. An immense commercial success for the German manufacturer, some 349,000 BMW 2002s of all types had been sold by the time production ceased in 1976.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
This lovely 2002 Tii Coupe was completed at the Munich-based Bayerische Motoren Werke during Spring/Summer 1973 production and is believed to have been delivered new to the US, where it has since remained in California. The car was painted BMW Polaris Silver from new and trimmed in Navy Blue interior with blue velour inserts, just as seen on the car today. A close inspection reveals a well-preserved and highly original car, retaining much of the original chrome and brightwork, interior and hardware. Original factory decals and ID plates remain intact along with the original engine. Optional bumper-mounted driving lights are fitted, along with appropriate 14-inch BBS alloy wheels. Surely a wonderful opportunity to own a well-sorted example of one of BMW's finest driving machines.

It also had a revolving seat with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. However, it had a short life, being demolished in 1804, possibly due to instability of the nearby limestone quarry face. An interpretation panel on the Rotunda shows such views in the 1790s.

Starting from the White Horse car park, this woodland walk follows the
spine of Lincoln Hill which was part of the Sabbath Walks or
Workmen’s Walks laid out in the late 18C by the Quaker ironmaster
Richard Reynolds. The walk encompasses the unique geology of the hill,
and visits the remains of structures associated with the Sabbath Walks, the
Alcove and the Rotunda which still offer wonderful panoramic views of
the Ironbridge Gorge and surrounding countryside.The route follows a 200-
year old old plateway, an even older sunken path known as Gypsy Lane,
before resuming a section of the Sabbath Walks in nearby Dale Coppice.
ª Accessibility: Boots are advisable all year round for frequently
muddy sections in this largely woodland walk.There are some
moderately steep ascents, one very steep descent of 150 steps from
the Rotunda, a step-through stile at the beginning of the walk and
a kissing gate on the exit from Lincoln Hill onto Church Road.

The cemetery also offers a view of the changing style of death monuments in Ireland over the last 200 years: from the austere, simple, high stone erections of the period up until the 1860s, to the elaborate Celtic crosses of the nationalistic revival from the 1860s to the 1960s, to the plain Italian marble of the late 20th century.
The high wall with watch-towers surrounding the main part of the cemetery was built to deter bodysnatchers, who were active in Dublin in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The watchmen also had a pack of blood-hounds who roamed the cemetery at night.
In 2009, Glasnevin Trust in co-operation with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) began identifying the graves of Irish service personnel who died while serving in the Commonwealth forces during the two world wars. These names are inscribed on two memorials, rededicated and relocated in 2011 to near the main entrance. A Cross of Sacrifice was erected in the cemetery, in a joint Irish-British commemoration ceremony, to mark the First World War centenary. As of March 2017, there are 214 service personnel of the Commonwealth of both wars identified as buried here.

Department prehistory
In two large exhibition halls the department prehistory under the title "The prehistoric Upper Palatinate" offers with its rich archaeological find material a detailed overview of the regional development from the Paleolithic to the end of the Celtic civilization. So a broad spectrum from the oldest artifact of the Upper Palatinate, the about 250,000 year old hand ax from Pösing, until the recent findings from the ending of the Celtic period in the 1st century Before Christ is covered. Among the illustrative tombs from different periods is also the "First Regensburger" from the beginning of the Neolithic period (around 5500 BC).
Department Roman Regensburg
Among visitors of the Museum, whether old or young, it is especially popular: the Romans department with its impressive testimonies from the period of the 1st to the 5th century AD, when Regensburg, "Castra Regina", the most important military base on the border of the Roman Empire in what is now Bavaria was. The foundation inscription, a hoard of coins and many other valuable artefacts, besides visual models and reconstructions: All this brings the Roman Regensburg back to life again, its structures, its daily life, its high level of civilization. Since 2003, the department presents itself in a new, contemporary design.
Department Regensburg in the Middle Ages
For the Middle Ages department in Regensburg History Museum the ideal premises are at disposition. The house in essential components goes back to a former Minorite monastery; in whose preserved church and the adjoining cloister the atmosphere of past centuries still clearly is felt. In this original environment, the city of the Middle Ages comes back to life again. The spectrum ranges from the political constitution passing through the diverse economic activities to the daily life and the art of the city and the whole region.

Abteilung Vorgeschichte
In zwei großen Ausstellungssälen bietet die Abteilung Vorgeschichte unter dem Titel "Die prähistorische Oberpfalz" mit ihrem reichhaltigen archäologischen Fundmaterial einen detaillierten Überblick über die regionale Entwicklung von der Altsteinzeit bis zu dem Ende der keltischen Zivilisation. So wird der Bogen vom ältesten Artefakt der Oberpfalz, dem etwa 250.000 Jahre alten Faustkeil von Pösing, bis zu den jüngsten Fundstücken vom Ausgang der Keltenzeit im 1. jahrhundert v. Chr. gespannt. Zu den anschaulichen Gräbern aus verschiedenen Perioden zählt auch der "erste Regensburger" vom Beginn der Jungsteinzeit (um 5500 v.Chr.).
Abteilung Römisches Regensburg
Bei Besuchern des Historischen Museums, ob alt oder jung, ist sie besonders beliebt: die Römerabteilung mit ihren eindrucksvollen Zeugnissen aus der Zeit des 1. bis 5 Jahrhunderts nach Christus, als Regensburg, "Castra Regina", der wichtigste Militärstützpunkt an der Grenze des Römischen Reichs im heutigen Bayern war. Die Gründungsinschrift, ein Münzschatz und zahlreiche andere wertvolle Fundstücke, daneben anschauliche Modelle und Rekonstruktionen: All das lässt das römische Regensburg wieder lebendig werden, seine Strukturen, sein Alltagleben, seinen hohen Stand der Zivilisation. Seit 2003 präsentiert sich die Abteilung in neuer, zeitgemäßer Gestaltung.
Abteilung Regensburg im Mittelalter
Für die Mittelalterabteilung stehen in Regensburgs Historischem Museum die idealen Räumlichkeiten zur Verfügung. Das Haus geht in wesentlichen Bestandteilen auf das ehemalige Minoritenkloster zurück; in dessen erhalten gebliebener Kirche und dem angrenzenden Kreuzgang ist die Atmosphäre vergangener Jahrhunderte noch deutlich zu spüren. In dieser originalen Umgebung wird die Stadt des Mittelalters wieder lebendig. Der Bogen spannt sich von der politischen Verfassung über die vielfältigen wirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten bis zum Alltagsleben und zur Kunst der Stadt und der ganzen Region.
