Our resident Wood Duck. I say resident because unlike all the other wood ducks in the area this one thinks it's a mallard. It hangs around with mallards in this tiny pond off the trail. If someone pays any attention to him, he gets off his branch and hides under the branches. His wife is understanding and while she misses her warm southern trips to California in the winter, she tolerates his fascination with mallards.
Ynys Seiriol (Puffin Island), off the northeast coast of Anglesey hosts the largest population of Great Cormorant in the UK. At low tide, some visit the wreck of the Hoveringham II, a dredger that sank off Penmon in 1971.
For a challenge of Rule of Odds - just something fun. Using odd number of dnd dice, all showing odds.
Flickr lounge. Lots and lots of dice.
A MOW train with a crane on board heads uphill as a short 2x2 coil train descends towards the loop on the newly extended double track section between Walong and Marcel.
18 April 2018, Tehachapi Pass, California. The coil train's trailing pusher was a warbonnet - I think the only one I saw this trip.

The reddish colour actually occurs mid-way in the feather, with the tip and base being gray.

In an odd move, Southwark based local CN 519 has taken CN 322's power, gone to the Port of Montreal and is seen here heading to Taschereau Yard with intermodal traffic from the port. CN 3043, CN 3875,
The heart wants what the heart wants.
This is apparently a common goldeneye / hooded merganser hybrid. We think.
This picture is dedicated to my son, who is celebrating his 27th birthday today. Happy Birthday!🎂
Shot as wide open as possible, making full use of the blur,
to isolate the little fella to the extreme right.
sometimes its sad being the odd one out,
sometimes you don't know who you are anymore,
sometimes you just need to take a breather,
and be with yourself, to discover who you truly are.

Macro Mondays Theme: One of These Things is NOT Like the Others
I love pencil shots and haven't taken one for a while so thought it would work well for this theme. HMM to all!
During our short stay on the Dutch Island Terschelling I tried to depict the inland beauty of nature, The sea was always nearby and of course it was tempting to walk to the beach and capture the view across the water. But I liked this particular landscapes as much as I long for the seascape. For me the overall impression was even more important than every separate part. That's why I used the same desaturated mixture of tones for every part. www.flickr.com/photos/fransvanhoogstraten/albums/72157719...

Our Daily Challenge ~ Odd One Out
Stay safe and well everyone.
Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo. Any comments or Faves are very much appreciated
For the Through the Lens week 13 theme of That's Odd is one of Southbank's sculptures against a blue autumnal sky.
Given the Federal Government is expected to call a 3 May Election we will be subject to all sorts of claims - odd or not! Hopefully, the population will vote responsibly but this will be the first election where other generations of voters out number the baby boomers. Possibly a welcome change where fundamental issues such as climate change, housing, cost of living may play a bigger part. The Trump effect is also becoming clearer.
The Australian Electoral Commission website is where you get credible information about the election including your representative and candidates. www.aec.gov.au/.
The world is uncertain at the moment and I applaud the Australian people who take time in their busy lives to actually think about the issues we all face and vote responsibly. And I am very glad we have compulsory attendance for voting.
This was taken just after the sun came up and the eagle was far off so this is heavily cropped, but the small brave bird there perched next to the eagle taking in that sunrise was too funny to see and not take the capture.
This of course was taken the morning after election day, and just goes to show no matter how you voted, we can all get along ;)
Once the sun was up and I had finished with 'my boats', I took a walk further along the bank of Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin to find some of the other group members. I was amazed at just how low the water level was, even compared to a fortnight ago, revealing many more of the hundreds of tree stumps scattered around the loch's margins. This lone yellow tree at the tip of an island cried out to be photographed; radiant in a brief burst of sunlight, it made a lovely colour contrast with the evergreens and oranges of the other flora.
(Whist waiting for the light I got speaking to a fellow Flickr photographer, garypaul421 - a pleasure to have met you Gary.)
