These five Whimbrels decided to make friends with a Marbled Godwit. They got along really well together.
It's sad that humans cant replicate this and just "get along" with each other !

Just to set the record straight, this is not a selective color shot or any other edited kind of shot. Virtually, this is a SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) shot, with only some cropping involved. I was as stunned as you may be now, when, walking outside a restaurant at the Korissia port of Kea, I noticed dozens of all white chairs and then just a few red ones scattered here and there...

Yes, California has some history, these grave markers typically 1880's thru early 1910's. This atmospheric site can't be missed as it is directly off Highway One just south of Point Arena (meaning of course it's fogged in).
As is all over this wonderful area, the Monterey Cypress overlooks the spirits of the early settlers.
Gotta love the "Odd Fellows" they were formed in 17th century England, their name coming from the; 'So very odd behavior of banding together as a collective and pursuing projects for the good of the whole'. Imagine....

Once the sun was up and I had finished with 'my boats', I took a walk further along the bank of Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin to find some of the other group members. I was amazed at just how low the water level was, even compared to a fortnight ago, revealing many more of the hundreds of tree stumps scattered around the loch's margins. This lone yellow tree at the tip of an island cried out to be photographed; radiant in a brief burst of sunlight, it made a lovely colour contrast with the evergreens and oranges of the other flora.
(Whist waiting for the light I got speaking to a fellow Flickr photographer, garypaul421 - a pleasure to have met you Gary.)

always be on the look out for the unusual, and the contrasting colors. This yellow leaf trapped in the bright reds begged to be photographed. I tried various apertures, and decided that wide open represented the mood best.
A homage to those amongst us that are a little different and maybe don't always fit in, but who are determined nevertheless to find their place in this world.
I know it's very subtle, but you should be able to work it out if you look close enough 🐤🐤🐤💙🐤😊
The theme for this CrAzY Tuesday (3-Feb-2026) is 'Odd One Out'.

Most of the trees here are deciduous Beech trees and have been here for at least a hundred years. The coniferous tree in the foreground is a relative newcomer and as can be seen is quite green. How it got there I do not know. The beech woodland is not particularly healthy as there is no understory to replace the older ones as they die or fall. The reason there are no replacing seedlings is down to sheep grazing. There always seem to be several sheep in the area all year. Between the grassy slope and the woodland is a small stream which helps to keep the sheep on the woodland side.
This is a photo story that fascinated me! I was photographing a great blue heron rookery (600mm lens), and suddenly a pair of red-tail hawks began circling the top of the tree where one GBH was standing guard. One hawk continually flew close to the guard heron, who then swelled up its chest, spread its huge wings, and screamed at the hawk. This happened numerous times. Finally the hawk flew back in carrying some dried weeds in its beak and landed on a nest directly below the fierce-looking heron. The hawk tucked its reeds into the nest and then settled in. The heron, seeming to accept the hawk's presence, relaxed its threatening posture and resumed its regular guard position!
The theme for Smile on Saturday is Odd one Out,, so I dug back into my archives for this shot of six mallards and one stilt.

Happy "Looking close... on Friday!" with "odd one out".
... and thanks a lot for your views, faves and comments! :-)
In my experience when ravens and red-tailed hawks fly near each other the ravens are usually mobbing the hawk. This pair flew together for at least a minute, the hawk drafting off the raven, as they cruised across a field full of snow geese and sandhill cranes.
