Very impressive demo!

The Pantheon is a building in Rome, commissioned by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome.

The oculus at the dome's apex and the entry door are the only sources of light in the interior. Throughout the day, the light from the oculus moves around this space in a sort of reverse sundial effect.[38] The oculus also serves as a cooling and ventilation method. During storms, a drainage system below the floor handles the rain that falls through the oculus.

Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome. [Extracted from Wikipedia]

Walking into the Pantheon and seeing the vast domed ceiling open out above you is one of the most impressive sights in Rome. What is truly mind blowing is the fact that this amazing architectural achievement was designed and built 2000 years ago.

From Wikipedia, the source of all knowledge:

The Pantheon, meaning "Temple of all the gods", is a building in Rome which was originally built as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome, and rebuilt circa 126 AD during Hadrian's reign. The generic term pantheon is now applied to a monument in which illustrious dead are buried.

It is the best preserved of all Roman buildings, and perhaps the best preserved building of its age in the world. It has been in continuous use throughout its history. The design of the extant building is sometimes credited to Trajan's architect Apollodorus of Damascus, but it is equally likely that the building and the design should be credited to Emperor Hadrian's architects. Since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a Roman Catholic church. The Pantheon is the oldest standing domed structure in Rome. The height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle are the same, 43.3 metres.

Spotted this down the street after having dinner at Sanctuaria.

The Oculus at Hudson Yards, NYC

The Pantheon was perhaps my second-favorite church we saw after Notre Dame. The oculus is just such a striking feature.
