CP OCS, Pettis Road, Gansevoort. September 26, 2021
Canadian Pacific passenger trains were rather drab before the Budd consists on the Canadian or Atlantic. Although a Royal Hudson on the Dominion surely looked good.
I just can't win at this spot. It was bluebird skies ALL day and I shot the F units on the LGSR three times in perfect sun so I shouldn't complain....but....
Anyway, after our morning bike ride and some time around town we headed out to Lansford to do a little ghost foaming and then take the absolutely fabulous #9 Coal Mine tour. While out there I got word that Andy Muller's OCS was backing out of Jim Thorpe to turn on the wye at the bridges and head south. Since Lansford is just across the mountain from here after getting done with the mine tour we swung back to this spot where we'd lensed 2102 the prior day for another round. This time we were the only ones there and without a smoke plume to contend with I figured I'd get a chance at the classic nicely view of town and the iconic church. However juat as I heard the train blowing east (railroad north) of town a cloud rolled in.
Oh well, this isn't the worst shot I suppose and it was a nice bonus on a mostly non train day. RBMN GP38-2s 2012 (blt. Sep. 1979 as high hood SOU 5256) and 2010 (blt. Oct. 1974 as high hood SOU 5139) lead the three car special at about MP 117 on the modern day Reading and Northern Railroad's Reading Division mainline, the former Central Railroad of New Jersey Railroad branch built in 1870 as Nesquehoning Valley Railroad Company.
St John the Babtist Orthodox Church on Railroad Street stands out prominently in the background. The church of Byzantine design with its blue onion domes was completed in 1936. Built by Andrew Gerber of Scranton, who used girders of World War I vintage, it has no posts or supports under the huge dome and main edifice of the church.

No, it is not actually an OCS of any sorts. NS did the duties of moving the PVRR passenger cars from Norry up to Newberry for the NSHR's christmas excursions.
DL 190, accompanied by 2461 and 2452 now sporting EL paint, lead OSC-13 through Tobyhanna bound for Stroudsburg.
The OCS hauls ass out of Orrick and approaches CA Junction, where the ex-Wabash joins with the ex-Santa Fe. This was a classic run-out-of-my-car-and-see-what-happens kind of shot. For a quick grab, I am decently happy.

The recently painted 7542 was immaculate. The Forman could have eaten off of it. The 3403 was added in Mechanicville to provide appropriate PTC capability on the CP.

After making the trip to Cape Elizabeth to get some sunrise pictures of Portland Head Lighthouse. Knowing that the OCS had made the tip from Waterville to Rigby the previous day, I decided to hang around Rigby in the hopes of snagging a shot or two of them in District 2. With an on duty time of 09:00, theyre making decent time as they headed past the old Boston & Maine station around 10:40. They took the siding to meet Amtrak 681 which had just arrived at the new Wells station.

Persistent rumors indicated that Hollywood A-listers Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette and Veronica Cartwright were on the train.
The OCS, looking like a modern day B&O passenger train, passes through Annapolis Junction towards Philadelphia.
After spending about a week in Seattle, the BNSF OCS heads east over Stevens Pass. It catches some sun while heading through Scenic seconds before diving into the 7.8 mile long Cascade Tunell. Scenic, WA 8/12/2023
Twilight is in full swing as BNSF GE ES44C4 No. 8392 powers this 15-car Office Car Special (OCS) train south down the middle of Atwood Street in Longmont, Colorado, on June 24, 2024. The train is deadheading back from Helena, Montana, to Topeka, Kansas, after doing Employee Appreciation trips across the former Montana Rail Link mainline.

Aberdeen, Carolina & Western 103, making its public debut, leads a deadhead of the companies OCS through Troy on its way to Charlotte. To mark the occasion, the engineer had his recently rebuilt ex-N&W RS5T on the engine, and sweet lord baby Jesus, that did sounded so damn good. 5-25-23

Here is another 2018 favorite that was only on my FB page but that deserves a full size showing on Flickr.
This is the caption I wrote over there at the time:
And following up on my Pan Am OCS detail shots at North Station, of course I had to get one of her "on the road." Given that it was a work day...err night...I needed to go home and get some rest so this was a one and done, no chase kind of day.
So I set up north of Tower A on the piers beneath the prison point bridge and shot a few inbound and outbound commuter runs and then right on the money at 0800 PAR 1 came across the Charles and threaded through the front ladder toward the New Hampshire Route mainline.
Boston Sand & Gravel (the last big legacy freight customer on the old B&M in the city) provides a nice #americanflagbonus that Russell Sullivan and Michael Sullivan would approve of!
As always thanks for looking!

CSX's southbound OCS passes the junction at Contentnea on its return trip to Waycross, GA. The single line to the right is the former ACL mainline that ran via Wilmington to Florence before the bypass was built straight to Florence via Pembroke/Dillon.
Pan Am's pretty little vest pocket streamliner is westbound at MP 434 (measured from Mattawamkeag, Maine) on the freight main with only 36 miles to go to reach their destination in Mechanicville where PAS meets the CP and NS. On Tuesday the train would start east destined all the way to the Bangor area allegedly carrying more prospective buyers interested in acquiring the long privately held regional.
PAR 1 and PAR 2 are ex Canadian National FP9s 6505 and 6516 built in 1954 and 1957 respectively by GMDD. They passed from CN to VIA Rail in 1978 before being picked up by the Conway Scenic in 1995 when they expanded into Crawford Notch. After 15 years spent hauling tourists in the White Mountains 6505 & 6516 would become PAR 1 & 2 when traded to Pan Am Railways in March 2010 for GP38 252 and GP35 216.
