She smiled sweetly across the room

Through the lunch time smoke

And I loved her for a second

And discarded the queen and I know

How sweetness turns to sour

And leaves they turn to brown

And then to earth and dust

And settle in this town

You get blown away...

The freshly repainted and renumbered F9's of Norfolk Southern's Office Car fleet are fresh from the paint shop, after getting new paint and new numbers. NS 4270 and the other locomotives lost the "4" up front to make room for the new AC44C6M rebuilds, which are steadily climbing from number 4000 and in theory could extend up to 5000. The train is seen here outside Shippensburg, PA on a deadhead of the equipment from the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA up the Lurgan Branch to Harrisburg, PA with an eventual destination of Altoona, home base for the vintage fleet.

CSX #1 leads the northbound OCS crossing Snow Creek as it parallels the North Toe river just west of Penland, NC.

The RBMN OCS charges north through Tamaqua bound for Jim Thorpe. RBMN 270 (F9A) & RBMN 275 (F7B) power the train.

RBMN 2013 (GP38-2) leads the OCS around the Wye at Pittston. After they hit the switch they run up to get onto the passenger track for the night.

R&N #2010 leads an OCS from Port Clinton-Minersville. Shots are at Schuylkill Haven, West Cressona, and Glenworth.

Pan Am Railway’s Office Car Special runs east in Etna, Maine through falling autumn splendor.

While on a weekend trip out of town, the full NS OCS (ABBA and 14 cars) rolled from Altoona to St. Louis. Luckily, its departure wasn't until Tuesday the 4th. That let me get back to town and go to work. I had a full meeting schedule on the 4th and thanks to MWB and MM, I was able to confirm the trains departure and it's progress through the Metro East. NS 4271 stormed through Belleville right in the middle of an opening in my schedule so I was able to at least do a "one and done" session with the OCS.

Delaware-Lackawanna's OCS extra is seen passing the Elmhurst Reservoir with some of the railroad's finest units. Leading the way is an ALCO PA dressed up in a Nickle Plate Road livery with a pair of freshly painted EX Erie Lackawanna C425s trailing behind.

This special was ran for the friends and family of the Verde family, the owners of this iconic Northeast Railroad.

It's all about the wheels :)

Norfolk Southern's executive train makes its way down the middle of Hickory Street in Warsaw.

Last rodeo for the Conrail OCS before the split up. Shown here cruising through Hudson with a dimension special tucked out of the way on the wye. Shared the CPL signal post with an unnamed Flickrerrr whose name rhymes with track.

CSX's version of the OCS rolls south from Chicago down the CE&D Sub, seen here on the south side of Vincennes, IN.

The big wigs that had been riding had all disembarked at Brewer Yard in Danville, so now they're just heading back for Jacksonville empty.

A stark contrast of new and old is seen at milepost CH 118 as P001 splits the intermediates at Haddix Rd. These old signals are the west-most remaining searchlights in this section of the old ABS blocks between Lake Odessa and Lansing. The signal on the right is particularly interesting due to the fact that its base and mast once held a pair of semaphore blades. When the semaphores were replaced, C&O just hung the searchlight heads from the existing mast.

The CSX OCS, running as P001, slows down to the crew change point on the old main at Wauhatchie. While the two GEVO's were a bit of a bummer, the main draw for me was the debut of the newest addition to the OCS fleet, the Moonlight Dome. 3-2-21

A "mini OCS" departs Conway Yard with Norfolk Southern business car New Orleans trailing NS 7034. The train was deadheading back to Altoona.

Union Pacific's office car races the parade of railfans along Route 17M at Southfields, NY.

The OCS tried to make a run yesterday from Altoona to Norfolk but was met with countless delays (signal cutover's, track oos, speed restrictions, M&W, bad dispatching etc) Hell it took so long they even changed the symbol on it half way through the trip LOL. Here we see 957 on the pull from CP Ship after going in the hole for another northbound on the Lurgan Branch.

CP OCS, Pettis Road, Gansevoort. September 26, 2021

Canadian Pacific passenger trains were rather drab before the Budd consists on the Canadian or Atlantic. Although a Royal Hudson on the Dominion surely looked good.

The KCS Officer Car Special heads Northbound on its way on its way to Kansas City at Lanagan, MO.

I just can't win at this spot. It was bluebird skies ALL day and I shot the F units on the LGSR three times in perfect sun so I shouldn't complain....but....

Anyway, after our morning bike ride and some time around town we headed out to Lansford to do a little ghost foaming and then take the absolutely fabulous #9 Coal Mine tour. While out there I got word that Andy Muller's OCS was backing out of Jim Thorpe to turn on the wye at the bridges and head south. Since Lansford is just across the mountain from here after getting done with the mine tour we swung back to this spot where we'd lensed 2102 the prior day for another round. This time we were the only ones there and without a smoke plume to contend with I figured I'd get a chance at the classic nicely view of town and the iconic church. However juat as I heard the train blowing east (railroad north) of town a cloud rolled in.

Oh well, this isn't the worst shot I suppose and it was a nice bonus on a mostly non train day. RBMN GP38-2s 2012 (blt. Sep. 1979 as high hood SOU 5256) and 2010 (blt. Oct. 1974 as high hood SOU 5139) lead the three car special at about MP 117 on the modern day Reading and Northern Railroad's Reading Division mainline, the former Central Railroad of New Jersey Railroad branch built in 1870 as Nesquehoning Valley Railroad Company.

St John the Babtist Orthodox Church on Railroad Street stands out prominently in the background. The church of Byzantine design with its blue onion domes was completed in 1936. Built by Andrew Gerber of Scranton, who used girders of World War I vintage, it has no posts or supports under the huge dome and main edifice of the church.

After making the trip to Cape Elizabeth to get some sunrise pictures of Portland Head Lighthouse. Knowing that the OCS had made the tip from Waterville to Rigby the previous day, I decided to hang around Rigby in the hopes of snagging a shot or two of them in District 2. With an on duty time of 09:00, theyre making decent time as they headed past the old Boston & Maine station around 10:40. They took the siding to meet Amtrak 681 which had just arrived at the new Wells station.

Persistent rumors indicated that Hollywood A-listers Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette and Veronica Cartwright were on the train.
