By Rafiullah Mandokhail

ZHOB:

The 23rd death anniversary of Khudai Khidmatgar Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and 5th of Rahbar-i-Tehreek Khan Abdul Wali Khan celebrated with honor and respect on Feb 2nd here in Zhob.

A public gathering was organized to mark the death anniversaries of Pashtoon nationalist leaders Bacha Khan and Abdul Wali Khan. Central Joint Secretary Muhammad Anwer Mandokhail presided over the gathering.

Addressing the participants Provincial Deputy Convenor Sardar Asghar Khan Achakzai, Central Deputy General Secretary Abdul Malik Panezai, Central Joint Secretary Muhammad Anwer Mandokhail, Provincial Convening Member Haji Sahib Jan Kakar, Former Provincial General Secretary Haji Nizam u Din Kakar, District Convener Sherani Malik Amanullah Harphal, District Convenor Zhob Abdul Rashid Sial and Muhammad Ibrahim Sherani said that Bacha Khan 37 years while Wali Khan had spent 17 years of their lives behind the bars for the Pashtoon rights and to up hold the banner of democratic system in Pakistan. They had never compromised over the Pashtoons rights. Both leaders disseminated a message of peace, adding late Wali Khan had further conveyed his father’s philosophy of non-violence. They added.

“ANP believes in the philosophy of non-violence of Bacha Khan and would never try to seek solutions to conflicts through wars and guns.” They said.

The speakers praised Bacha Khan and Wali Khan for their services for the independence of the Sub-continent and their fight for Pashtoons rights.

They further said “Pashtoons are leading a backward life in 21st century and they are deprived of all their genuine rights. Pashtoons do not have control over the recourses lying in their homeland”. They maintained.

Renaming the province as Pashtoonkhwa and burying the idea of controversial Kala Bagh dam forever were some of the achievements of Awami National Party, they added.

The speakers lashed at MQM and termed it as a terrorist organization, adding MQM is responsible for the deteriorating situation of law and order in Karachi . The role of Pashtoons in development of Karachi could not be ruled out. They maintained.

They also condemned the target killing of Pashtoons in Karachi and asked the governments to stop it forthwith otherwise the fire would engulf other parts of the country.

There is a dire need for the government to ensure the equal rights of Pashtoons, as Balochistan is the province of Baloch and Pashtoons. They added.

They demanded of the government through various resolutions to bane MQM, Construction of Zhob-Killa Saifullah, Zhob-Qamar Din and Zhob-Mir Ali Khail high ways and to maintain law and order situation in the area.

They also condemned terrorism in the country particularly in Khyber Pashtoonkhwa.

It's interesting how the rocker panel molding is shaped to create the illusion of the body panels being symmetric about the horizontal crease. This accentuates the "Coke bottle" shape that typified GM styling beginning about the mid 1960's.

Now I've got lime green on the saddle and the bar tape. What else could I do to make it even better....

I snapped this on the steps of Flinders Street Station in Melbourne.

I love their expression and the framing of the railing on the left. However, I wish I had moved around to capture at least a three-quarter face rather than this angle.

Their eyebrows suggest to me they are concerned about something. Or perhaps they are observing their surroundings with deep contemplation. What do you think they are thinking about?

Observe the sky, Dec. 14th, 2012.

We were here at Hsin Le elementary school, Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County, Taiwan. It is the only acceptable place for observing night sky in Hsinchu. I didn't take a shot of Geminids meteor shower, since I constantly shifted my camera in order to search the meteor shower. However, I always point my lens toward a sky opposed to the meteor shower. Finally, I came out with that this shot is more meaningful than those only contain meteor shower, because I recored people in the scene that give us more humanity. Love it.

Bridget talked me into going to a chiropractor, even though I can't really afford to go to a chiropractor. The plan was to go out for fancy Valentine's dinner afterwards, but weather put a bit of a kaibosh on that, so instead we got some (delicious) Indian food and went home to snuggle and be warm under blankets.

I didn't actually take any *good* pictures of my lovely girlfriend while we were out, which sucks. Here's a shot of her drinking some water.

HFDF! I observed a number of these pretty little syrphid flies on 7 July 2020 in the Roan Mountain area of the NC/TN (USA) border. I despaired of identifying them, but finally searched BugGuide for "green haltere" and several came up. It seems only the females have this feature, and it is only obvious in living flies.

This one is an experiment - trying to capture the fragility of the poppy petals. So it floats and fades slightly into the neutal background ... well that's the idea! ;o)

My first try at putting a DSLR (my D200) on the telescope. Focusing was imprecise without live preview. Will try this again with a camera that has it.

At the summit of Haleakala National Park (about 10,000 feet) you can see the nearby military and research observatories that take advantage of the clear sky at the top of the island (not counting those few wispy clouds). Unfortunately, they’re not part of the park and are off-limits.

Thaipusam (The Murugan Festival)

Thaipusam is an important festival observed by the Hindus of southern India during the Tamil month of Thai (January - February). Outside of India, it is celebrated mainly by the Tamil speaking community settled in Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka and elsewhere around the world.

Dedicated to Lord Murugan or Kartikeya

Thaipusam is dedicated to the Hindu god Murugan, the son of Shiva and Parvati. Murugan is also known as Kartikeya, Subramaniam, Sanmukha, Shadanana, Skanda and Guha. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Parvati presented a lance to Lord Murgan to vanquish the demon army of Tarakasura and combat their evil deeds. Therefore, Thaipusam is a celebration of the victory of good over evil.

How to Celebrate Thaipusam

On the Thaipusam day, most devotees of Lord Murugan offer him fruits and flowers of yellow or orange color - his favorite colors and also adorn dresses of the same color. Many devotees bear milk, water, fruits and floral tributes on pails hung from a yoke and carry them on their shoulders to various Murugan temples, far and near. This wooden or bamboo structure called 'Kavadi' is covered with cloth and decorated with feathers of peacock - the vehicle of Lord Murugan.

Thaipusam in Southeast Asia

Thaipusam celebrations in Malaysia and Singapore are known for their festive fervor. The most famous Kavadi pilgrimage on the Thaipusam day takes place at the Batu Caves in Malaysia, where a large number of devotees head towards the Murugan temple in procession carrying the 'Kavadi'. This festival attracts over a million people each year at the Batu Caves, near Kuala Lampur, which houses several Hindu shrines and the 42.7 meter high statue of Lord Murugan that was unveiled in January 2006. Pilgrims need to climb 272 steps to access the temple on the hilltop. Many foreigners also take part in this Kavadi pilgrimage. Notable among them are Australian Carl Vedivella Belle, who has been taking part in the pilgrimage for more than a decade, and German Rainer Krieg, who went on his first Kavadi in the 1970s.

Body Piercing on Thaipusam

Many fanatical devotees go to such extent as to torture their bodies to appease the Lord. So, a major feature of Thaipusam celebrations is body piercing with hooks, skewers and small lances called 'vel'. Many of these devotees even pull chariots and heavy objects with hooks attached to their bodies. Many others pierce their tongue and cheek to impede speech and thereby attain full concentration on the Lord. Most devotees enter into a trance during such piercing due to the incessant drumming and chanting of "vel vel shakti vel."

Day Four in Prague ... the New Town ... and the Prague Botanical Garden, even though it is winter!

Although December is just about the least visual time of year to visit an outdoor botanical garden in a cold-weather country, we really wanted to see it. Although most of the flowers were hibernating for winter, there were trees and other things of interest ... plus the glasshouse.

Prague Botanical Garden is located in the Troja Chateau (Trojský zámek) section of the city. The garden was first established in 1969 for scientific purposes but is now open to the public. The garden covers about 4.5 hectares and is located close to the Prague Zoo.

Observed at it’s nesting site, at the top of a sandy cliff.

“Male Bank Swallows use their small, conical bills as well as their feet and wings to dig burrows that will lead to a nest chamber. The burrows are perpendicular to the ground level and, when finished, are dug about 25 inches into the side of the bank. The male enlarges the tunnel upward and to both sides to form the nest chamber, where the temperatures are more constant than outside the burrow. The female then builds most of the nest itself, constructing a flat mat of straw, grasses, leaves, or rootlets that she has torn from the exposed bank. The nest mat is approximately 1 inch thick and 5 inches in diameter.” Reference www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Bank_Swallow/lifehistory

Project 52

I am a champion for everyday life.

I spotlight the moments and details that we take for granted and use them to communicate concepts in a expressive, engaging way.

This is my seven-going-on-eight year old daughter. She's a great little artist. Loves to draw and has a real eye for color. I hope she wants to take up photography someday. In fact, just recently we played "photo shoot" together where I let her loose with my old D50. She got some pretty good shots. :)

When I asked her to pose with this camera, she kept checking the back for the LCD screen. When she asked if she could take my picture with it, I explained that she couldn't because it was a film camera, and it needed to be loaded with film. Then she asked, "Well, can't you go get some?" Kids...lol.

in these days its possible to feel too seen... that we are observed and recorded in too much detail... that this is there for others to infer and imply... in the guise of our own safety we are exposed like no other time whether by choice or chance decisions are made on those footprints left... accounting for a disembodiment of self that is necessarily abbreviated... strange times indeed.
