One lesson from the National Park Service's public input meeting on the future Tule Lake internment center memorial: Words matter.
Calling sites like Tule Lake "camps" is, of course, an outrage. But even "internment camps" isn't accurate; people in internment are charged with crimes and given trials. Absent historical hindsight, Roosevelt himself had no trouble with the term "concentration camps," but that comes with a little bit of baggage.
"Incarceration" â or worse â more accurately describes the experience of Japanese Americans during the war. Seventy years of linguistic whitewash has abetted the obfuscation of this grim fact for at least two successive generations. And lest this become just history in a dead museum, check out the billboard facing Rainier Ave. outside the window: "Stop a terrorist. Save lives."

Nothing new about this year's election in this regard. Judging a candidate's record or competency on relevant issues is hard, after all.

To be honest, this, my friend, is something I can't tell you as that concerns
Vixea ManPlus. I'll bet that you didn't realize that you have a sour stomach concerning this opinion. I might need to call them like I see them although it's the naked truth. Where would the endurance come from? This installment is an attempt to make a number of sense of that premise. It rings a bell. It is an elaborate scheme. I guess they could say that I'm an armchair quarterback. It's something you may need to mull over as well. I believe even I may need to take a break from my very motivational musings relative to some view. Let's keep that quick. The prevalence of my view has obfuscated this fact. This is a conjecture regarding freeing up more that. If a lot of competent people are anticipating it, ipso facto it can't happen. Have you come to a decision referring to Vixea ManPlus yet?

yikes! Carleton U student publication modelled after L=a=n=g=u=a=g=e in more ways than the physical; academic obfuscation plagued by gradeschool spelling errors & brown lipstick. poetry by Gerald Burns, Peter Ganick, Karen Mac Cormack, Steve McCaffery, Jena Osman; prose by Melanie Neilson, Hanna Weiner; critical writing by Christian BĂśk, Jeff Derksen, Allison Fillmore. this issue begins its Canadian Literary Magazine Poetics "feature" of answers to their prompt to state & defend the editiorial policies of those polled, Hole, of course, proving themselves the most avant-a-go-go of the lot (it helps to've not asked anyone interesting).

For today's exercise walk I was back on the loop line, here showing West Derby Station nestling in the corner of the frame.
Needless to say, after Johnson's masterpiece of obfuscation last night (if I don't tell you what to do you can't blame me when it goes wrong) there were a lot more white vans on the road today, which is understandable.
Quite how the driving instructor I saw is socially distancing in the front of his car is something more of a mystery...

This leaves little room for comfort.
Today I turned 30. Yes, 30. None of this perpetual-29-ness, which is obfuscation. I wish to live authentically, age gracefully, and be honest with myself as much as I can.
There has been progress, in 29-ness. There have been moments where I've had to admit how desperately fragile my body can be. There have been days when I've sworn fiercely to myself that I have to carry on because no one is coming to my rescue, and days when I've been able to admit that even my rabid independence can sometimes use a hand. I have made realizations and admissions, sometimes astonishing ones. I have experienced the clarity that can only come with absolute certainty. And almost always, there has been laughter.
I am making the affirmation today that nothing I do from this point forward is a mid-life crisis. If I start to go a little wild(er) around the edges, it's just because I can finally afford all the trouble I've always wanted to cause.

A hard working trucker reading a road map. Not having enough light in the cab he got out to read using the headlights.
I've removed and/or obfuscated identifying features on the truck.
This driver was out in the rain the day before thanksgiving. I hope he was able to make it home. I know that many had to have Thanksgiving on the road.
I've always admired truck drivers, have since I was a little boy. Maybe someday I'll get my CDL. Who knows.

This letter is a reply from Minister Krueger, in response to my letter protesting his brutal, unprecedented, and unique-in-Canada cuts to BC's arts funding budget. For many years BC has already had the lowest arts funding in Canada. BC is now the only province to have made cuts to arts funding this year, and not just minor cuts - by 2011 the funding will all have been eradicated - the figure is 91% cuts in total funding. It has nothing to do with recession. No other BC sector was cut this way in the budget, so it's not just "recession." It's a reprioritizing.
This letter doesn't just have spectacular formatting. It is weak, misleading, and uninformative. Krueger refers to how much the government has spent on the arts in the past, as if that lets them off the hook. Then it says it'll keep us up to date. It's just one piece of obfuscation after another.
Disturbing element: The formatting indicates the letter was prepared by "J Long". probably Jeremy Long, Director of the arms-length BC Arts Council. Imagine, as a member of the Cultural Services Branch, being asked to prepare briefing notes and responses for a minister who is explaining why cuts to your own programs are entirely justified.

"What distinguishes, among other things, man from the beasts is this capacity for abstraction. All forms of communication are abstractions from the whole context of reality. " - On the humanism of abstraction: The Artist Speaks, by Robert Motherwell. Page 250.
I've never been incredibly interested in creating abstract art. To me, it seemed pretentious. I understood abstraction as a way of obfuscating a message. What I have come to understand, however, is abstraction seeks to do the opposite. Despite its foreign feeling, abstraction really seeks to strip away the excess and condense a meaning into a simpler form.
As this quote points out, anytime we try to convey a thought to another person we cut stuff out. Each thought is based on an unknown number of assumptions, linked to subconscious desires, and attached to a host of murky feelings. It wouldn't be effective to try and convey all of that every time you want to communicate an idea to someone.

even after this supposedly benevolent assurance from the CM himself? Why should they have dug up trenches and cordoned off the area in the manner of a liberated zone? Why did they refuse to display grace, and by extension, also implicit faith in the government once all the demands of the original struggle were met? Why did they continue to sulk and behave badly? .
Those still ignorant would do well to turn to Nandigram: What Really Happened, the report of an independent Peoples Tribunal held at Gokulnagar and Sonachura in Nandigram and at Kolkata towards the end of May last year. Remember, this is months before the early November Operation Nandigrab, an utterly bloody and violent programme executed by the CPI (M) goons to reclaim the so-called liberated zones. The Report covers the ground from May to November 2007 through a chapter at the end, which unlike the .
rest of the report, is based, not on the testimonies and depositions, but largely pieced together on the strength of extensive media reportage. .
The Tribunals jury consisted of a retired high court chief justice, a senior columnist, social activists and a psychiatrist. It recorded a total of 194 testimonies, including 39 oral and 135 written depositions at Nandigram, and 20 in Kolkata. Given the atmosphere of terror prevailing in the district, the courage of those who testified must be saluted; the District Magistrate (East Medinipur) on the other hand responded to the invitation to depose before the Tribunal through a letter requiring the organizers to intimate the said DM as to the provisions of law by which he was required to appear before the Tribunal. .
The report of the Tribunal provides the background to the violence in Nandigram, delineates the chronology of events, focusing in particular on the manner in which the massacre was planned and orchestrated by the CPI (M) in collusion with a servile or helpless administration, attempts to provide comprehensive lists of the dead, missing and injured, besides citing at length various other fact-finding reports and newspaper coverage of the sequence of events that unfolded in the area. .
The chapter, Chronology of Events chronicles the climate of apprehension and anxiety that gripped Nandigram following the agitation in Singur, and the formal notification (and not mere rumours as some JNU professors would have it) about the acquisition of agricultural land for a petrochemical hub in November-December 2006. Local intelligence reports cited here speak of a widespread discontent against the proposed move -a discontent that cut across party lines -and which resulted first in spontaneous meetings and mobilizations, and then gradually into the formation of BUPC. Even prior to the climactic violence of March 14, anti-land acquisition activists were arrested, fired upon and even bombs were hurled at them. Meanwhile contradictory signals kept emanating from the ruling party: there wouldnt be a hub if people didnt want it, there would be industrialization at all costs; peace should be restored, agitators should be taught a lesson, so on and so forth. But it emerges quite clearly from the dateline of events that the administration completely abdicated its responsibility towards protecting the life and limb of ordinary people. Economic blockades were imposed on the people resulting in loss of livelihood: it was alleged at the Tribunal that Lakshman Seth, MP and his wife Tamalika Panda-Seth, Chairperson, Haldia Municipality, imposed an economic blockade on Nandigram by suspending the ferry services to Haldia, where on an average 10,000 people from Nandigram go daily to sell fish, vegetables and milk products. .
What the CPI (M) spin-doctors would like to obfuscate is the large-scale violence, including horrendous sexual violence targeted at women, which preceded, and indeed continued well after the famous tear the notification declaration. Several women came forward at the Tribunal to speak of the gross sexual violation they suffered at the hands of khaki-clad, masked men in chappals. Dr.Debapriya Mallick deposed that in the medical camps in the Nandigram area he found women victims with injuries in the pelvic region, the back, the breasts and the vaginal region. Apart from rape there was sadistic sexual assault. Rods/lathis/gunbarrels were inserted into the sex organs of women. Undressing, molestation, assault on their bodies, indecent exposure and filthy abuse was rampant. Tell your women we are coming, was the ominous threat issued by the party goons. .
A written deposition submitted to the Tribunal says: .
One of the policemen twisted my left breast with all force. Another one came and forced a rod into my vagina and started twisting. .
45-year-old Angurbala Das of Adhikaripara, Gokulnagar narrated a tale of similar bestiality: .

Setting is most likely a church or other religious institution. 011,012, two shots of a entrance way of a possible residential environment, such as a private home. Door is made out of wood and glass. Large window sills hang overhead. A hat stand sits by the door with hats on it. A large potted plant sits by hat stand. Floor is made of stone but as it descends is covered in carpet. Outside is a large oak tree.
Good Evening All
Dramatic occluded sunsets are typically dark. I present this dark because it was lolol. . It’s the color I was after in the highlights. It was dark enough that the dynamic range (DR) of the camera was apparent. The lack of DR there of is my point I’m thinking. My eye could discern much more detail in this lighting environment. There is a point. When the full sized sun popping through a thin slit on the horizon. Is effective already down. More of a candle light than the furnace it would be with the cloudy obfuscation. Most images would have a completely black / silhouette landscape in this light. Cameras dynamic range is lacking compared to the human eye. There are some that are better than most others lol. Give the technology a few years
There is a LOT of detail in the landscape buried in the “black” . Most of the ground here is 400 feet or so below the hill I chose to climb that evening. Driving up these hills can be challenging, but then the sun goes down and your still up the hill…..đ One of the few disadvantages of “Clever Girl” versus my old Jeep Grand or even my Polaris Crew Ranger is being able to see over that big hood. IT does have a camera up there though…… đˇ It is also a full foot wider than my Jeep Grand Cherokee so fitting between trees I used to fit through becomes a considered thought process lolol.

After entering my payment info at nwa.com, I was greeted by this block of text, centered on a sea of white.
1) I didn't ask to be activated in Verified by Visa.
2) If I want my plane tickets, I can't bypass this.
3) I don't need yet another password to do credit card transactions with (that's what my card number and security code are for -- and if they're so vulnerable, what makes yet another code so special?)
4) This page feels very "phishy," looking nothing at all like the web site I was on.
5) I really needed the card expiration field obfuscated by bullets? My zip code?
The next day, I made a software purchase through kagi.com. They said that if I was in the Verified by Visa program, I might be asked for a password. I wasn't. I feel more secure already!
001,006, shot of a group of people sitting in an administrative or recreational environment, sitting or standing at a row of tables and chairs. In focus are a man and a woman. Woman wears a dress and has short dark hair. Man has short dark hair and wears a plaid shirt and has a watch on his wrist. People in the background wear semi formal clothing. Man and woman have nametags. Male's nametag reads DON WILLARD. Female's name is obfuscated. 002,004,005,008,009,018, six wide shots of a group of people sitting at tables and chairs, while others stand. All of the group appears to wear semi formal clothing and have plastic cups and plates of food in front of them. Some of them clap their hands. 003, shot of an older woman wearing semi formal clothing looking at scraps of newspaper with various drawings on them. Plates of food, cups and ashtrays litter the tables. Various other people sit around her wearing semi formal and formal attire. 007,010,011, three wide angle shots of a group of people sitting at rows of tables and chairs, staring at a screen with a man's face on it, on a stage along a wall of plaques, a podium, flanked by two flags, one the American flag and another flag. On the wall is a large black board with a series of numbers on it. 012,016,017, three shots of an older woman in a floral pattern dress and wearing a nametag with the name OPAL SKOLNICK on it, holding a plastic cup with ice cubes in it and a plate of food on the table she is sitting at. 013, shot of older man and woman sitting at a table with plastic cups and plates of food on it. They wear nametags that read H.C. STEINMETZ and ESTHER WHITE on them. 014, shot of two men sitting at a table with a pile of papers on it and speaking with one another. Ferruginous Hawks Heading Out
Yet another capture driving along remote backcountry roads up here in the borderlands. I saw these two Raptors talking 30 feet apart on a fence. At this lower f-stop setting, the focal field was about 20 feet deep and these birds a 20 feet apart lol. The left one is closer to me than the right (rear) one. They took off just after I came to a stop and started machine gunning the 1200mm lens.
I’m not a hawk expert and the distinction between Red Tailed Hawks and Ferruginous Hawks seems blurred to me. I suspect somebody knows the answer that will be reading this. Feel free to correct my ID as I’m only about 80 percent sure. The different sizes are an obfuscation.
Random encounters result in opportunistic captures for my photon traps. (cameras). I see themâŚ.driving along a gravel road, stopping. Then getting out standing between the door and the car with a 2 foot long lens is a chore best accomplished with some haste. Doing so and not have the birds fly off is a whole different encounter. The chances that both birds would hold their ground on a vehicle incoming at 45 mph is small. 45 is the speed limit on most gravel backroads around here. Then have enough time during all that get a camera up and set properly in manual mode. . Elapsed time less than 20 seconds I would imagine.

Both Gibney and Ai Weiwei provide an in depth and convincing investigation into the respective governmentsâ incompetence in handling the pandemic. Iâm still waiting for a documentary on Italyâs catastrophic response, also based on deception, corruption and obfuscation. More state-wide corruption in The Collective. Nelsonâs The Street is a phenomenal portrait of gentrification in London: highly recommended. Makridis playful ornithological documentary is keeping Greece weird, and thatâs great. Two great docs on the rise of the American far right are Feels Good Man and White Noise. Based on Nick Srnicek and Alex Williamsâs Invent the Future, Eric Medinaâs poetic adaptation is a good reminder that another world is possible.
Being unable to attend film festivals this year, I have missed so many fascinating docs, including Carmen Losmannâs Oeconomia (I loved her 2011 doc Work Hard, Play Hard), Isabella Willingerâs Hi, AI, Jonathan Perelâs Corporate Accountability, Mike Hoolboomâs Judy Versus Capitalism, Courtney Stephens, Pacho Velezâ The America Sector, Lynne Siefertâs Generations , Chris McKimâs Wojnarowicz and Petra Epperlein, Michael Tuckerâs The Meaning of Hitler among others.
Iâm still waiting for the Mubi of documentaries. Ovid just does not cut it for me. Any suggestions?
there is a lot of obfuscating of nazi propaganda grafitti at the moment in vienna - this is one of those i like the most - "nigger raus" - which means "niggers out" - changed to "bigger haus" / "bigger house"
nice one :)

View from north of the Bow looking southeast toward the Langevin Bridge. In the AFTER photo, itâs more difficult to pick out the Langevin Bridge with the 4th Avenue flyover, CTrain bridge and urban forest obfuscating the view.

Hobonauting the brutal summer and visioning sunset -- thereabouts -- as the Texas Sky Lid flexes like a blinking Thug through it's daily transformation, majestic as a pie on the windowsill.
Beijing Military Museum.
My latest project (even though I haven't finished any of the others) is going to be on Red Tourism - the transformation of the CCP's history/myth/obfuscations into what the Chinese like to call 'places of interest'. These sites are spread across the country, usually comprising former Communist bases from a time when they were just a struggling guerilla force. 'Red Tourism' is the government's plan to attract visitors to these often deprived areas, whilst simultaneously burnishing their own image and advertising the so-called 'national spirit'.
Next up, a visit to Xibaipo, a revolutionary village where Mao planned his 'peaceful liberation' of Beijing.
