LSWR Adams O2 Class 0-4-4T W24 "Calbourne" approaches Haven Street station on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway during a Time Line Events photo charter.
The O2 is a large entertainment district on the Greenwich peninsula in South East London, England, including an indoor arena, a music club, a Cineworld cinema, an exhibition space, piazzas, bars and restaurants. It was built largely within the former Millennium Dome, a large dome-shaped canopy built to house an exhibition celebrating the turn of the third millennium; consequently The Dome remains a name in common usage for the venue.

I just liked the colours & shapes of this walkway. It goes from the Pier to the O2. It's design reflects that of the Dome itself - The rather nice lights cycle their colour too! The ones at the far end are starting the cycle to lighter blue. This is as shot - original exposure was a stop underexposed from a set of three bracketed exposures

My lifelong interest in geography and maps prompts just one more post taken from the run in to Heathrow Airport over London's River Thames. This photo was taken very shortly after my previous post.
The most notable and recognisable feature is of course The O2. This multi-purpose arena was constructed under the former Millennium Dome, itself built to house an exhibition celebrating the turn of the third millennium. The dome shaped structure still stands over the arena and many still refer to the venue as The Dome. Just downstream, a tower like structure can be seen in the river with matching towers on the land to the other (north) side of the river. These belong to the Emirates Air Line, a cross river cable car operated by Transport for London but sponsored by Emirates.
Directly across from The O2 is Bow Creek leading into the River Lea. Towards the top right of the photo another small circular structure can be seen between the clouds. I believe it is now a museum and is the single remaining gas holder of East Greenwich Gas Works. To me of less interest is the green rectangle which is a golf range.
Traffic on the river itself on this particular day was mostly tourist related. However, the red ship at the top right indicates commercial traffic still exists.
The Millennium Dome, often referred to simply as The Dome, is the original name of a large dome-shaped building, originally used to house the Millennium Experience, a major exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third millennium. Located on the Greenwich Peninsula in South East London, England, the exhibition was open to the public from 1 January - 31 December 2000. The project and exhibition was the subject of considerable political controversy as it failed to attract the number of visitors anticipated, with recurring financial problems. All of the original exhibition and associated complex has since been demolished. The dome still exists, and it is now a key exterior feature of The O2.

Best seen on black, so hit the "L" key
A very cold Tuesday morning and the first rays of light spread across the London sky as the sun starts to push over the horizon, directly behind the O2 Arena which sit across The River Thames.
**Appologies if you've noticed this photo has changed, I wasn't happy with my edit as it didn't really reflect any of the colours and saturation in the sky and water that I could see while thier so I've replaced it with a more acurate edit, I also have a longer exposure taken just before the sun appears above the O2 which is better but may wait a while before uploading, maybe ;)**
