Rockefeller Center’s Atlas statue on Fifth Avenue is probably next to Prometheus which benefits being directly below the annual Rockefeller Christmas tree by the ice rink, the most photographed art piece at the world famous location. The myth goes that Atlas was forced to bear the World on his shoulders as punishment for leading the war & revolt against the gods of Olympus. This brilliant work of art was the result of the collaboration of artists Lee Lawrie and Renee Chambellan and stands directly across from the world famous St Patrick’s Cathedral the seat of the New York Catholic Archdiocese. Taken a few weeks back while visiting loved ones back east. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #penf

After the September 11th attack, New York City conceived a masterplan to rebuild and reimagine the World Trade Center campus. The Oculus is one of many buildings that were part of this masterplan.
The Oculus was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and is intended to resemble a dove leaving a hand. Work began in 2008, and the Oculus was opened on March 3, 2016.
The Oculus is a critical part of the New York City mass transit system. In addition to serving 12 subway lines, it is also home to retail shops, coffee shops, restaurants, art exhibits, and musical events.
The structure is oriented to align with the solar angles of the sun each September 11th, from 8:46 a.m., when the first plane struck the north tower, until 10:28 a.m., when the second tower collapsed.
Near the site of the historic and tragic duel of Alexander Hamilton and then US Vice President Arron Burr which proved to be fatal to former Secretary Hamilton, in a park that bears his name a beautiful vista of Mid-town Manhattan, the blue crown of the Viacom/CBS building, the relatively new player One Vanderbilt, 4 Times Square and a myriad of apartments that protrude at or near 42nd Street at night. The views from Weehawken’s perch on the New Jersey Palisades provide such a magnificent view of the heart of the city and beyond. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @apple #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @nycurbanism @nybucketlist #newyorkcity @nycprimeshot #nycprimeshot @newjerseyisntboring @newjerseyisbeautiful
