I keep a separate notebook for each of the "compartments" of my job. I scribble on the covers of the little black moleskines, cover my Doanes, and display my Field Notes with pride!

NOTES is a series I started in 1968. NOTE TO ERIK was the second one completed but the footage goes back to 1966. When I saw the footage I loved it, but didn't feel ready to deal with it. Seeing Sharon Moss again, who had moved to NYC from Storrs, CT inspired me to return to this footage to make a note to a mutual friend ERIK KIVIAT. It took about 2 years for me to feel I could respond to the generosity of her performance and the images I had gathered and shaped in my camera. Sharon Moss and her cats play and dance naked in the snow.
This girl not only loves to take pictures like me, but she loves to look through my Flickr site too. The funny thing is...she only likes to look at her own pictures. If she has to look at more than two pictures(that she is not in) in a row she gets bored...and she will complain..."I want to see MY pictures." Vain little girl. :)

Back in the day, I used to live in a 300-unit apartment complex in the ultra-luxurious intersection of 6th and Mission (Also home to: ho's, bitches, drugged-out fiends, a porn shop that was hit by a bus. Loads of class). This 300-unit apartment complex refused to accept shipments on behalf of tenants, so every day I'd come home to see at least 10 or so UPS InfoNotice forms on the front door. One day one of them was for me, and I noticed that it also had a nice little note written on it: Yuppy [sic] Scum". That was when I first new knew I'd made it! I keep it on my cubicle to remind myself that I'm a yuppy [sic] and that the downtrodden masses in lower-class neighborhoods hate my guts. You gotta keep it street.

NOTES - NHS Hall of Fame - Obviously Gery Elkins is a very busy man. He shoots trap, skeet, and sporting clay; he is also involved in action shooting and pistol and military hi-power rifle shooting. Gery is also a member of Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show as the announcer, while his sister Peggy, a 1960 NHS grad, plays comedienne for the show.
A 1962 NHS graduate, Gery entered the United States Marine Corps and earned the rank of sergeant; his specialty was radio technician. He later earned two associate degrees in electronics and received special certification in computer technology. His training enabled him to teach computer electronics offerings to adults at the Indian Territory Vocational Tech School in Oklahoma.
His many jobs have included electronic technical work for Copp Radio of Dayton from 1966-1976; a machine tech for Pitney Bowes 1979-1986; a driver for Farm Fresh Dairy 1984-1986; a return to Pitney Bowes tech work from 1986-2005. Gery then retired from there because, "It was getting in the way of my free time."
He has continued to pursue his love of music. Gery has been active as a singer and musician since high school, performing in many clubs in and around the Dayton area at various times. He can play both the bass and the lead guitar. He continues to pursue his musical interests in the state of Oklahoma, where he has lived for the last twenty-three years.
Gery continues to be a person of many talents. He is a cowboy poet and balladeer, a circuit-riding preacher, and a member of the territory marshals. At other times he performs his sharpshooting act at public activities and serves as a radio announcer for KOKL in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. His program is called the "Round-up Ranch" with cowboy music, poetry, and guest artists. Gery holds his private pilot's license and has won one Texas state bull's-eye pistol championship.
In his spare time Gery enjoys fishing, hunting, and shooting. He also likes riding but states, "It's getting harder to step up on my horse. I think he's getting taller, and the heat is hotter."
Gery married his wife Shirley in 1978. A West Carrolton grad, she is a retired secretary and now enjoys her homemaking role. Together they have five children--Mike (1980), Gary (1982), Stacy Arnold (1962), Christopher (1972), and Donna (1975). Their children have blessed them with ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
