This is a chocolate birthday cake that I made for my friend, Chrissy's birthday. She teaches music and sings in our church choir, so I decided to put musical notes on and around the cake. I thought the microphone would be fun. Cake covered in fondant and microphone made of fondant. I had a little problem with the lettering, but I was in a rush.

in Sept 1969, sitting on the floor, probably doing what a lot of people have been doing ever since, a young man was talking about NYC, and asked if I knew Greenwich Village, or NYC. I must have said something like, "No, not really," so he drew me a little diagram on a piece of notebook paper. I kept it in my wallet for years .... referring to it when reading an article in the NYTimes, or when reading a book. At some point, I think it fell apart, and I threw it away, but by then I was commuting to New York from "The Coast" as Woody Allen says, and I was a regular at a few clubs, and concert venues ... I had my favorite hotels, and a pirate cabbie ...
this is a copy made by me of that drawing. The young man was a native NY'er and was a major in post-graduate physics at MIT, his handwriting was much smaller and neater than mine could ever be, and his drawing had more info on it.
Funny thing, though, this drawing fell on the table a few days ago and a friend of mine said, "Oh, wow, I didn't know the Bronx was there." Exactly, and I hadn't either. His drawing opened up my world, incredibly, since as I wrote in the song, "New York is America's hometown! New York is America's hometown! New York is America's hometown! and it's my hometown, too!"
The musical that song appears in is still waiting to be produced, but my imaginary girlfriend Vicki is working on raising the funds as we speak ...

These were just some of the anime related snacks on sale in Akiba in 2007. If you've not seen or read Death Note, it might help to know that one of the main characters, a shinigami, or death god, is very fond of eating apples. The L on the laptop refers to another main character, who at the beginning of the series communicates anonymously via a laptop computer.
I'd just finished a run and thought I'd take a few snaps. I didn't realize I'd be in the shots, but was pleased at the appearance of little Hepburn.
