Title "Artsy Scrappy Mama" by Julie Ann Shahin
I decided my self-portrait would be a paper mache art doll because I didn't want to buy something, although I did look in a few stores. I wanted to actually make something and get my hands dirty, yet actually I wore "kitchen gloves" for the messy part! The wire mesh for the dress is no accident, I want you to see through it, to see the body has vintage sewing pattern tissue paper on it. I also wanted to attach items to the dress so this wire worked great, it is called "WireForm by Paragon" or "WireMesh by Paragon" depending on whether you want copper, brass, or aluminum diamond. Pam asked me what her name is, and I decided to name her "Artsy Scrappy Mama" because I wanted to show you a self-portrait of me in my studio, which is painted yellow, where I am happy and thriving.
The items on her dress include a cupcake charm (!!!), a handmade rose (tutorial coming soon), a deer brad because I see deer in my neighborhood all the time, a heart brad, an imagine charm for creativity and a nod to John Lennon, and a pin I saved from a trip to Toronto.
My technique: I wanted to use things that were on hand for paper mache. Make note of everything I recycled!
* The doll body was constructed from a toilet paper roll for the torso,
* and a wad of newspaper rolled into a ball for the head,
* taped together with masking tape.
* I used straws for the arms and legs,
* I punched a hole into the body for the legs and arms with my Crop-a-Dile
* Instead of using newspaper for paper mache, I used vintage music paper, vintage sewing patterns, and vintage book pages
* I made a 1-part flour to 1-part water mixture for the paper mache glue, and let each layer dry overnight
* The eyes and mouth were made on Claudine Hellmuth’s Sticky Back Canvas, cut out and applied
* The background behind her is also paper mache, made on a cardboard mailer. The newspaper article is about me, written several years ago, an interview I gave on hybrid scrapbooking when I was Creative Editor of Scrapbook Dimensions Magazine
* For her hair, I took 10 thin strips of fabric, tied a smaller strip of fabric around them at the top, then adhered one end at the crown of her head. I repeated this about 15 times. Then I tied various floral charms and beads to her hair.
Supplies: toilet paper roll, newspaper, masking tape, straws, vintage music paper (PERSONALITY), vintage sewing pattern(PERSONALITY), vintage book pages (FOUND at antique store), Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back Canvas Paper, Hambly Transparency, pop dots, various fabric strips for hair, Prima flowers, fake eyelashes (FOUND in my cabinet), wire mesh (FOUND), ArtGirlz cupcake/imagine/feet charms (PERSONALITY); Art Matters Pin I saved from Toronto Museum (FOUND & PERSONALITY); chandelier crystal from flea market (FOUND); feather; brads; twist-ties (FOUND); Hard Rock Cafe stir stick (broke stick off) (PERSONALITY), binder clip (FOUND), chair, misc charms and beads, newspaper article (PERSONALITY)

Remark: The Northern Indiana Normal School and Business Institute, which operated from 1873 through 1900, later to be renamed Valparaiso College in 1900, and then renamed again as Valparaiso University in 1906, issued scrip as a form of trade. The Institute is known to have issued scrip in denominations of 1¢, 2¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢, $1, $2, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500, $1,000, and $5,000, which was backed by its deposits fictitiously held in the First National Bank located in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, or the Merchants Commercial Bank of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. This represents an example of an circulated $2 scrip note.
Schingoethe and Schingoethe (1993) do not list an example of this scrip. However, it closely resembles the class of scrip listed as IN-790 (p. 82). Given that this scrip is unlisted in Schingoethe, it is assumed it has a rarity of R7, indicating that only one to four examples of this scrip are known to exist. Wolka (2018) also fails to list the existence of a $2 scrip issued by this educational institution.

February 2nd I was one of the lucky few who get their hands on the much anticipated new Canon flagship workhorse: EOS-1D X Mark II. As an ambassador for Canon Netherlands I was invited to join a small, select, group of press people at a car drifting school near the famous old Dutch racing circuit of Zandvoort.
My conclusion: With all attention focused on the raw specs this camera feels slightly undersold at this point. Not surprisingly though; since the two best features are very hard to put into hard numbers. But actual use puts it into a whole different perspective – incredible image quality combined with near perfect autofocus makes this camera a game changer.

Note the carvings on the timbers of the 16th century Guildhall.
Eye Guildhall dates from the late 15C and was possibly bequeathed by John Upson “for the good of his soul”. Despite Victorian ‘improvements’ the corner post still has its medieval carved figure of Archangel Gabriel, and two arched window heads also have original carving. Eye also has a few timber framed thatched cottages remaining, typical Suffolk sights.

Guildhall of St Mary, now offices and shop. Late C15, probably for John Upson. Rebuilt 1875 by JK Colling as headmaster's house for adjoining Eye Grammar school until 1965, now offices and shop. Timber-framed; machine tile roofs. Nearly rectangular plan with a short west extension. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. West gable-end faces street. Exposed close studding throughout. First floor jettied to south and west. South flank with 5 two- and 3-light casements to ground floor and 4 to first floor, 3 of which are elaborated into oriels on heavily carved aprons. Gabled roof with clustered decorative ridge stack and internal gable-end stack to east. West gable with 4-light ground-floor casement, oriel window above fitted with single-light leaded casements on a richly carved apron and with a hipped plaintile roof. 3-light attic casement. Brattished jetty bressumer and attic wall plate. South-west corner post has weathered C15 carved figure of Archangel Gabriel, and south flank retains two 4-centred window heads with carved spandrels. Go figure that my "COLORS" subscription ended right before a set of notebooks that I really wanted came out. Solution: resubscribe.
These "Expedition" Field Notes books are my favourite so far. Perfect for Space Pens.
I can't believe she took the time to write this, fold it, put it in a
plastic bag to protect it from the rain, and then taped the bag so it
was the same size as the note. This from the lady who parked in the
same spot a few weeks ago, preventing us from using our paid parking
spot.
PS. Morgan's car wasn't even blocking her "walkway." A 400lb man with
a fanny pack could've squeezed through without a problem.
