An age old form of communication. From the elementary notes passed furtively from desk to desk in the classroom between giggling children to the more serious messages of eternal love penned by lovestruck teenagers then stuck in lockers or jacket pockets. As parents we leave these in our children's lunches for them to find as a treat along with their cookies.

They served their purpose as they still do. Like a love letter they are by nature short and to the point; "see you, love you, til later, til then." Short on paper but long on meaning.

There is nothing better than to find one of these jewels, a touching note, a humorous jibe, a reminder to accomplish, or maybe a date. Handy little things these notes are. But mostly, they are a reminder that I'm thinking of you and soon I'll be with you; hopefully sooner, maybe later, but I am thinking about you enough to write it.

This particular love note embellished with one of phyl's anniversary roses.

Love you!

Deep in thought.

...don't leave your camera lying around. These are NOT my boobs. I carry my camera with me everywhere I go. Today I took it out of my purse and laid it on my desk. A coworker snapped this pic at some point without me knowing it. I think I know who this is and tomorrow i'll ask to see her boobs just to make sure. OK not really but other than me, there is only one other person at work who would do this...

It's been a while since i've posted anything here. I need to get my act together. I've been so busy with work and life and there was an unexpected death last week that just put us in a funk for a few days...not that any death is ever expected.

Getting a note from our 3 1/2 year-old granddaughter in the mail is a wonderful surprise. Since I didn't have children of my own, it is an especial delight to see an envelope addressed to Nana (amd Papa). And no, I do not know why there's a rocket on here. Or wait, maybe it's something else entirely!

If anyone wants to know why I have a grey buddy icon ... its a (peaceful) protests against Getty giving away lots of our images to Google without even bothering to ask the contributors if its OK. Google then stripped all the metadata off the images and started giving them away. I had hoped the contributors meant more to Getty than that! :(

**The doll on the left has a re-root.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Hubba, hubba! I honestly cannot believe that this Momma Heart doll (on left) is the same shabby, forgotten lady that I rescued from a local charity store. During the fall of 2017, Colleen and I found Momma on our way home from a dentist appointment. I was hoping to score at least one doll that afternoon, but instead came home with a handful of lucky dollies and even some clothes/odds and ends. Momma was probably my favorite find of the day...yes, she even beat Poopsy Pets Avery who was on my imaginary wish list. It's not all that often I find an adult Heart Family doll. For whatever reason, I always seem to have good luck when it comes to stumbling upon the kid Heart Family dolls...and the original Mr. Heart is never hard to find either. When I spotted Momma's bright yellow gown, I was most excited--I knew instantaneously what it went to. I was even more overjoyed when I saw her face and knew this doll was the Surprise Party! Mom. But then upon further inspection, I realized her once beautiful, ashy brown hair had been hacked. And by hacked, I mean it was genuinely butchered. The previous owner took it upon themselves to give Momma Heart a mullet--more than a quarter of her hair in the front had been cut very short. I felt a pang of sadness in my heart for her. I decided that I would purchase her anyways and see what I could do for her at home. Even if her hair was not worth re-rooting, I knew her outfit and body would be useful. After cleaning her up (she was pretty darn filthy..especially her lips), I was even more heartbroken. Had she not received a haircut, this doll would have looked like brand new. I felt a connection to this lovely lady, and thought it would be too much of a waste to use her as a donor, even though her haircut was bad enough to warrant it. So I took leftover hair I had from another re-root, and filled in all the empty plugs (see my "Dolly Transformations" album for before/after pictures). I wasn't expecting for Momma to turn out as beautifully as she did. But this red color does WONDERS for her--Momma's brilliant blue eyes simply pop out against her new hair. She is by far the most attractive Mrs. Heart doll in my collection...I'm pretty sure all the Mr. Heart dolls will be fighting over her (luckily for Surprise Party! Mr. Heart, he gets dibs). This doll was a true gem, and I'm so glad that I found her that fateful day--she needed to find a doll momma who could fix her correctly and give her all the love and respect she so rightfully deserved. The best part of this story is that she even got reunited with most of her family--I already had Surprise Party! Mr. Heart and Baby Girl...if only Baby Boy had been present at the charity store too.

Having spent a considerable time on my first Surprise Party Mom, I recognized my duplicate on the right. She was part of the infamous "Mountains of Monsters Lot," which contained 166 dollies!!! This enormous bin, which consisted of two huge boxes, was actually an incredibly generous gift. I was floored by the sheer magnitude of what we'd been given. Clearly, some dolls were straight from someone's collection. Others, like Momma Heart, were probably salvaged from thrift stores/secondhand places with the intention of being saved. This doll did fare better than many of her fellow plastic comrades. She had a body and was wearing an outfit (that belonged to my beloved 1988 Garden Party Barbie). Despite her age and squalor, I knew she'd clean up wonderfully. However, I did note something of interest. She sported the SAME mullet as my first doll. I suppose this must have been a tacky factory hairdo? It must be hard to spot in boxes, since the dolls' hair is most likely gelled/hair sprayed down. I'm not upset that I re-rooted my first gal (the red makes her ravishing). After a boil wash and day at the spa, lady number two is stunning. The quality of her saran hair is impressive, and she even still has her factory jewelry! Normally, I'd have given her the lone original dress. But my first doll is such a babe, I couldn't steal it from her. It worked out wonderfully anyways. A year later, in 2024, I found an inexpensive lot of Heart Family clothes. That's where this gown originated from!

Busy, busy weekend again, so thankfully the ODC theme came to my rescue (I think I may be a little addicted to this group), the theme today was neon. At first glance I thought I was going to struggle again with this, but then thought of these mini-post-it notes I had :-)

I hope you have all had a fantastic weekend.

Whenever I get home and bitch about how shitty my day was, or how shitty my commute was, or how shitty my sleep was, or how all 3 happened on the same day (today), I need to stop and reflect. Where was I at 5:30 am? Who was I talking with. What was THEIR day going to be like? OK Gary, time to stop complaining.

When someone's day is made better by oatmeal and hot chocolate next to a 55 gallon trashcan fire, I have no room to complain. I'm embarrassed that I have to remind myself of things like this.

Sweet as wild strawberries
