Thursday evening, after our first photography group met in Tillman Hall, a couple of us took pictures of Sherman Hall on the campus of Western Illinois University. It is the main adminstrative building and was the first building on the campus. Viewed from this perspective outside of Tillman Hall, only half of Sherman is visible. There is another identical wing beyond the portion that juts out with the gold-domed tower.
Originally it was the Western Illinois State Normal School in Macomb, Illinois. Designed by an Illinois architect named Robert Watson, contruction on the building started on December 1900. The edifice is fascinating--a three-story, mixed classical revival-style building with a solid construction not found in more modern buildings. I'll have to take some interior shots to show the ornate ceilings, etc.
