...Dank einer Recht großen Verspätung war es am 18.11.2020 möglich den Normal am Vormittag Fahrenden gemischt Zug aus Zwickau zu fotografieren. Direkt nach der Arbeit ging es an den Nürnberger Ostbahnhof und dabei hätten mein Kollege und ich keine Minute länger brauchen dürfen. An der Stelle angekommen sahen wir bereits das das Ausfahrsignal in Richtung Dutzendteich Hp2 zeigte. Da war uns klar jetzt ist Eile angesagt also rauf auf die Feuertreppe der angrenzenden Schule und Kameras raus. Oben angekommen gelang es gerade noch die Kameras einzustellen da fuhr auch schon 232 472 mit ihrem 17 Wagen starken Zug und einer V60 am Zugschluss durchs Bild. Zufrieden könnten wir danach entspannt die Treppe wieder hinunter steigen.

After a very wet leadup to Christmas, it's great to finally get some normal winter conditions and be able to strap on the snowshoes. Hope everyone had a good weekend and the good folks to the south of us in the US are safe with the stormy weather they are having there.
Eens in het jaar breng ik graag een dagje door in het Venloër bos en dan natuurlijk het liefst wanneer de herfstkleuren op z'n mooist zijn. Het zoeken naar de juiste dag is ieder jaar weer spannend want je bent afhankelijk van diverse factoren. Zo moet het bovenal bewolkt zijn, maar bij voorkeur wel droog. De herfstkleuren ontwikkelen zich ieder jaar toch weer anders, maar meestal zijn ze pas halverwege november op z'n mooist. Een herfststorm kan daarentegen al vroeg roet in het eten gooien.
En dan wil je ook nog wat (leuke) goederentreinen fotograferen. Dan is de volledige stremming bij Emmerich momenteel wel een uitkomst, want daardoor rijden er veel meer treinen dan normaal over Venlo. Ik besloot voor zaterdag 16 november te kiezen want op zaterdag heb je altijd de SETG-trein en dan zie je daarna wel hoe de rest van de dag verloopt. Dat ik niet de enige was zou blijken, maar samen met andere bekende en onbekende fotografen is het wachten wel veel gezelliger.
Na SETG en SBB "bergop" midden in het bos te hebben vastgelegd kwam de melding dat LTE in aantocht was met een verlate containertrein uit Mannheim/Wörth. Aangezien deze trein de vorige dag met een blauwe 186 richting Duitsland vertrok, was het flink doorlopen om de stek bij het hotel nog tijdig te bereiken. Buiten adem werd gelukkig op tijd de plek bereikt en niet veel later rolde de 186 942 de berg af Venlo in met een volledig beladen en kleurrijke containertrein richting de Waalhaven Zuid.

Tonight's full eclipse was pretty spectacular. A Red moon as the it rose but laterly a more normal colour. I was amazed that the clouds cleared for much of the eclipse.

Notice how the moon in the northern hemisphere looks "upside down" in comparison to here in the southern hemisphere!

Op vrijdag 23 april 2021 was het gans de dag helder blauwe lucht maar doordat er in Brecht een hevige heide brand in de vroege ochtend uitbrak was die mooie helder blauwe lucht snel ingeruild door rook/smog...
Om 16u30 stond ik langs het spoor in Deurne om de Visp-trein op foto te zetten.Normaal heb je rond dit uur geen goed zonlicht maar doordat de zon dus weggemoffeld was kon het dus wel.

Der Monte Grona ist ein 1736 m s.l.m. hoher Berg in den südlichen Alpen (Tambogruppe bzw. Luganer Voralpen) zwischen dem Luganersee und dem Comer See in der Lombardei in Italien.
Routen zum Gipfel
Talort ist Breglia nördlich von Menaggio. Ein Bergweg beginnt an den Monti di Breglia (996 m). Er führt zunächst zu einer Schutzhütte (Rifugio Menaggio, 1.380 m). Von dort aus führen neben dem Normalanstieg noch zwei weitere Bergwege zum Gipfel: Ein direkter Steilanstieg („Direttissima“) und ein Aussichtsweg („Sentiero Panoramico“). Der vierte Weg auf den Gipfel ist ein Klettersteig („Ferrata del Centenario CAO“).

Der Aufstieg zum Monte Grona gehört zum Pflichtprogramm eines Comer See-Aufenthalts. Auch die Bewohner der Gemeinde Menaggio besteigen zu Saisonbeginn, veranstaltet vom hiesigen Alpenverein, den Gipfel. Auf dem Weg nach oben gehört der Besuch des Rifugio Menaggio dazu.
Der Monte Grona hat eine Bomben-Hütte
Der Hüttenwirt bereitet bis auf einen kurzen Zeitraum von Januar bis Februar das ganze Jahr über einfache lokale Speisen und Getränke zu. Der Monte Grona ist 1 736 m hoch und bietet vom Gipfel einen Rundumblick über die gesamte Region bis zum Luganer See. Der Aufstieg beginnt in Breglia oder dem Parkplatz kurz oberhalb des Ortes, nach 2h ist der Gipfel erreicht.
Das Rifugio Menaggio, bis weit über den Comer See hinaus bekannt, wurde 1952 als Schutzhütte für Bergsteiger geplant und gebaut. 1960 folgte die feierliche Eröffnung und 1970 wurde die Schutzhütte dann zu ihrer heutigen Form erweitert. Die Hütte ist weitgehend autonom, bezieht das Wasser aus einer nahe gelegenen Quelle, Strom liefert die Sonne mit Hilfe einer Photovoltaik-Anlage.
Die Lebensmittelversorgung wird über eine Lastenseilbahn von einem Forstweg (ca. 150 m unterhalb der Hütte) organisiert. Das Rifugio verfügt über zwanzig Schlafmöglichkeiten, eine Küche, zwei Aufenthaltsräume und ein Bad mit Warmwasser.
Tourbeschreibung: Die äußerst attraktive Bergwanderung beginnt man sinnvollerweise oberhalb von Breglia an einem Parkplatz. Die Anfahrt dorthin ist im Gegensatz zu anderen Bergen eher angenehm, mehr als 10 min. sollte sie nicht dauern. Wer viel Power hat, parkt natürlich in Breglia selbst bei der Kirche, ca. 30 m. vom Platz beginnt der Wanderweg. Er führt allerdings anfangs immer wieder ein bisschen an der Straße entlang, sodass viele den oberen Startpunkt wählen. Vom (Berg-)Parkplatz aus geht es dann in ca. 1h durch zunächst niedrigen Wald, später auf offener Strecke zum Rifugio Menaggio auf 1 383 m. Höhe.
Die Strecke ist durchgehend ausgeschildert und eigentlich nicht zu verfehlen. Am Rifugio angekommen, erfrischt man sich mit Wasser aus dem Brunnen oder in der Berghütte. Neben Getränken gibt es auch kleinere einfache Speisen: Polenta mit Fleisch, Käse oder Würstchen und Spaghetti mit verschiedenen Soßen. Viel grüne Fläche in der Sonne und im Schatten lädt zum Verweilen ein, die Sicht ist grandios.
Der weitere Weg auf den Monte Grona führt rechts an der Hütte vorbei. Nach wenigen Schritten geht es ab zum nahe gelegenen Klettersteig (Ferrata), der aber nur für geübte Kletterer empfohlen wird. Folgen Sie lieber der Hauptstrecke, die sich nach einigen Metern erneut teilt: Sie haben nun die Wahl zwischen der sog. ‚Diretissima‘ und dem ‚Via normale‘. Letzterer ist 10 min. länger.
Beide Strecken liegen wunderschön im Gelände, am besten man begeht beide, eine beim Aufstieg, eine beim Abstieg. Der Via normale führt über viele enge und teils extrem ausgewaschene Pfade inmitten faszinierender Natur bis zum Sattel zwischen Monte Grona und Monte Santa Amata, einem kleineren Nachbarberg, in dessen Verlauf der Monte Bregagno schon zu sehen ist. Folgen Sie dem Weg zum Monte Grona links, auf dem Schild werden 30 min. ausgewiesen, und entdecken Sie die schönsten Seiten der Comenser Bergwelten.
Bald erreicht man über schmale teils auch felsige Strecken den Gipfel mit einer Traumaussicht in alle Himmelsrichtungen. Für die letzten zehn Meter ist zur Sicherheit noch ein Seil gespannt, das man aber eigentlich nicht benötigt. Im Westen der Luganer See, dahinter die Bergkette des Monte Rosa, dem höchsten Berg der Schweiz, gegenüber der Monte Legnone, mit 2 609 m., der höchste Berg am Lago di Como.
Im Süden die hohen Vertreter der Grigne-Gruppe von Lecco, unterhalb der Ort Menaggio. Für 2 h Anstrengung erhält man an diesem Berg eine ganze Menge hochalpiner Eindrücke. Zurück am Rifugio genießt man am besten die Abendstimmung bei einer Tasse Cappuccino. Ausklang: In Menaggio gibt es direkt an der Piazza Garibaldi (auch Tourist-Office) eine Gelateria mit gutem Eis und einige Cafés.
Tourvarianten 1. Kurz nach dem oberen Parkplatz führt bei der Abzweigung ein weiterer Weg unterhalb zum Rifugio (ausgeschildert). Der Weg ist zunächst etwas flacher und breiter, verjüngt sich aber später ebenfalls. Man erreicht das Rifugio im Gegensatz zur anderen Strecke von unten. 2. Während des Aufstiegs zum Monte Grona gibt es eine gut beschilderte Abzweigung zum Monte Bregagno, mit 2 143 m. ein stattlicher Berg der Region.
Man steigt zunächst diagonal zum Berg an, überquert dann, schon auf dem Bergkamm laufend, den kleinen Bruder des Bregagno und erreicht nach weiteren 1,5 h auf weichem Wiesenuntergrund den grünen Gipfel. Von hier führt auch ein Abstieg zur Via Monti Lariani (VML), an der Kreuzung liegt die Kirche San Bernardo, die zum Bergdorf Labbio gehört.
Dort befindet sich das Agriturismo Labbio, in dem man übernachten kann (www.agriturismolabbio.it). Allen anderen bleibt nur der beschwerliche Abstieg über unzählige Serpentinen nach Musso oder der Weitermarsch auf dem VML nach Dongo. 3. Auf halber Strecke zum Monte Bregagno liegt das Kirchlein Sant‘Amate, das von vielen als (Zwischen-)Ziel gewählt wird.

Stems have four main functions which are:
* Support for and the elevation of leaves, flowers and fruits. The stems keep the leaves in the light and provide a place for the plant to keep its flowers and fruits.
* Transport of fluids between the roots and the shoots and blooms .
* Storage of nutrients.
* The production of new living tissue. The normal life span of plant cells is one to three years. Stems have cells called meristems that annually generate new living tissue.
Each time I think... that's it, there's only so much you can do with flowers... and yet again and again, I'll see something new.
Being creative is not a choice... it is an urge in me.

4WD Tour in a rented Jeep Grand Cherokee (3.6 L, 6V, 216 kW) thru the Al Hajar Mountains to Bilad Sayt village is one of Oman's most interesting Off-Road trips. The dirtroad is not overly difficult and does not require a pro-driver. The only challenge are a few very steep sections where nomal cars get stuck, also due to the fine sand which reduces grip. We did all trips in Oman with a normal Japanese rental car, only to experience this road and oasis village, we rented a 4WD for one day.
OK. I've got the cute ducks out of my system so let's get back to the Ministracts! And in case you were wondering, I've neither had nor pined for a cigarette. Oh yes!

this entry is late...mostly because it's taken me a few days to get over the events of this past tuesday's training class.
as some of you already know, matea has fear issues with other dogs, stemming from 4 months of bad experiences at dog parks when she was 8-10 mos of age. add to that her breed - GWPs are bred for "sharpness", meaning if they perceive a threat they're going in, and matea is definitely the quintessential GWP - plus she's a female, and a wannabe alpha...even though with her own pack of at least five other dogs, she's a big pushover.
in class, cheryl - my new hero in dog training and behavior - sometimes has exercises in controlled chaos...dogs retrieving across each other's paths, toys flying everywhere, excitement amped up...all to create dogs who are more interested in working with/for their handler than be distracted by other dogs.
for matea, such exercises are brilliant as it boosts her confidence, showing her that she can work around other dogs and focus on the task at hand without perceiving a threat from every dog she encounters. and she's doing wonderfully. we'd not had a single incident with matea in almost 4 mos of classes, even if another dog accidentally bumps into her or gets into her face.
...until this past tuesday.
taz (an older jack russell...ironically sold to cheryl by another friend of mine who breeds JRTs and has a wirehaired pointer as well!) was in class. during a controlled-chaos exercise, matea was heading out - full steam - to retrieve her tennis ball for me...dogs everywhere, and go figure the ball should roll under taz, the JRT.
taz spun, facing off with matea, and matea had her head down, totally wanting to back away. this was my interpretation of her reaction, and it was confirmed by cheryl after class when we reviewed the event.
matea was actually making the decision to forget the ball, and more importantly, forget the JRT, deciding neither was worth it. if i'd called her back, i truly believe she would have come. but since cheryl's goal is to build this dog's confidence, i stuck to the task at hand: "fetch...fetch." then, apparently, taz made the first challenge/snap. at that point the GWP sharpness kicked in and matea was on her. you've never heard such screaming...cheryl assured me later that taz had been through WAY worse during flyball events, and that her reaction tends to be extreme screaming at just about anything.
with the screaming, the GWP prey-drive kicked in...probably 10 times that of any normal dog. being 50-feet away, i wasn't in the fray until it was over 5 seconds later. 5 seconds that felt like a bloody lifetime. matea was not giving up. BUT let me assure you there was no blood, no injuries, which i suppose i should derive confidence from, in that my dog does have bite inhibition.
i DO believe that had i been right there, the incident would have stopped before it began. however, i wasn't. and fortunately cheryl WAS. AND fortunately taz is one of cheryl's dogs (owned by a niece, i believe). AND fortunately, cheryl is cesar millan in a woman's form. she was calm and assertive, snatching matea's beard and twisting, then holding her by her lips for a good 4 seconds before switching to her happy-voice and saying: "okay! let's go play!"
for the next ten minutes cheryl had me send matea for retrieves with taz right there (held by cheryl), and in fact, growling at matea....a rottie was lunging at the other side of matea (a friendly rottie, but matea doesn't seem capable of discerning the difference), and other dogs at the receiving end. you could literally see matea work through her fears, her body cringing as she came close to the other dogs, yet following through with the task at hand with coaching from me. but it was clear that matea does NOT want confrontation...she was giving the growling JRT a wide berth after that, and not because she'd been reprimanded for fighting. there was really no reprimand.
still, seeing 68 lbs of solid muscle on a little 15 lb JRT is truly frightening. growing up i witnessed the swift death of a pug at the jaws of our one german shepherd...and i saw many fights between our shepherds. any kind of dog fight or scuffle has a major effect on me, even on tv, and i'm working to overcome that.
after class, with her arm around my shoulders, cheryl pointed to matea, lying 20' away on her own in a down even as the JRT was being led past her.... "that is not a bad dog," cheryl said. "if that was a bad dog, i'd be going home and digging a hole tonight."
THE GRUMMAN MARTLET SINGLE-SEAT FIGHTER
The Martlet is another of those tubby little American fighters which look like flying barrels. In general appearance, it is not unlike the Buffalo, though its square-cut wing-tips and more tapered fuselage should prevent confusion between the two types.
Like the Buffalo, the Martlet is in service with the Fleet Air Arm. Very little has been said yet about the Martlet's work, but it is safe to say that some of our newer aircraft carriers have Martlets aboard.
This aircraft should give a very good account of itself over the sea because it has the three things essential to an F.A.A. fighter: speed, manoeuvrability, and range. Its maximum range is 1,150 miles, which would enable it to be used as a fast scouting plane as well as for immediate protection of the Fleet or of convoys.
An unusual feature in the Martlet is the provision of two small windows under the pilot's feet, to enable him to have more than the normal look-out below.
It is known that the Martlet has already had encounters with
the Luftwaffe and has acquitted itself very well.
