(a) I cannot see Charlemont Street here,
(b) I cannot see tram tracks on the roadway,
(c) I cannot see any signs of a tram
BUT
(d) I AM in the right place as that is surely the Eye and Ear Hospital where I can have my eyesight checked by the best people available!
[https://www.flickr.com/photos/8468254@N02] quickly agreed that this is Adelaide Road, and [https://www.flickr.com/photos/gnmcauley] reminded us of a previous discussion about the mislabelling of this image. It was/is part of a series (some mislabelled) but all largely dated to c.1912....

Niki and I had planned to go camping for the long-weekend on the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula. A few days beforehand we discovered that dogs are not permitted in National Parks. One of our main reasons for going was her Beagle & Great Dane had so much fun exploring the Oregon Coast with us last month.
She indicated it was alright to go on my own but we continued to look and think about alternate ideas. However, no surprise, everywhere was full. And with the weather forecast getting worse we decided to just hang around town. Until Thursday. I then decided to make a quick foray into the area, starting that night. Caught the last ferry and had a pleasant 48 hours south of the border.
This was my only evening at the beach. I think it would of looked better with some paw prints in the sand.
I brought Niki back some of our favourite beer (Red Hook - Wit), so I'm sure we're still good.
Plus we spent a very relaxing and warm afternoon at Iona Beach on Sunday so the dogs had their fun too!
This delightful shot of an hotel in Westport, County Mayo is a great way to begin a week that promises to be a scorcher here in Ireland. The trees are offering plenty of shade for those who sit and await the departure of the omnibus to ...where? There is a lot of detail in the shot, not least the registration number of the 'bus together with the dress of the people standing about and the piles of leaves should help with the time of year if not the date?
Sometimes it seems that we could have a stand-alone album for our many 'charabanc' images. Or even for this particular 'bus, registration number IM 180, which has been confirmed to be in the service of the Midland Great Western Railway. Other inputs from Niall McAuley, sharon.corbet, sissonni, and Beachcomber help us refine the 50 year catalogue range to less than 5 years in the early 1910s. In this period, the nature of road traffic started to change. And, while it was the 'airbrush' rather than the internal-combustion engine that removed all the manure from a postcard variant of this image, the same cannot be said for the modern StreetView....

The full title on this is "Meet at Gracedieu(?) - commissioned by Mr. T. Widger". Maybe Mr. Widger rode to the hunt, and perhaps wanted an image of both he and his steed recorded for posterity(?) It certainly is a fine shot of the pair, and there appears to be a "Big House" in the background. There is an area in Waterford called Gracedieu but was that named after a house or vice versa? It does sound familiar....
The consensus is that this is a member of the Widger family from Waterford. Pretty much all of whom (of working-age) were recorded in the 1911 census as horse-dealers or trainers. The suggestion is that Poole captured this image at Grace Dieu estate, a short distance south of Waterford, and which we have visited before. Based on similar images in the catalogue, and the fashions visible, it seems likely this dates to the first decade or so of the 20th century....

Opdracht was ‘opwaarts’.
Daarvoor is zijlicht nodog. Ook de kleine scherptediepte speelt een rol: hierdoor wordt de aandacht gevestigd op de door de zon belichte tak en kegels, en niet op de rest.
De boom is dezelfde als die in de achtergrond van vorige week.

Challenge was ‘upward’.
On the photo a dawn redwood in autumn colours with hanging male and female cones, against a blue sky. For a natural contrast I chose to photograpgh an in the sunlight hanging branch and as far as possible the other branches in the shadow. Therefore it is needed the light is coming from the side. Also the shallow depth of field is playing a role: the attention is drawn to the branch shone upon by the sun, and not on the remainder.
The tree is the same as the one I photographed in the background of last week’s challenge.

A warm Autumn evening, close to sunset, and a silent, near deserted beach. The shadows were getting longer. Ambling along the sandy shore, with a clear view across Botany Bay in the general direction of the City.
These signs are posted at numerous places along the beach in Santa Cruz, California which is famous for its tolerance. Go figure.
What else do you think should be prohibited? What does this imply is allowed?

Porthcawl. October 2020.
I took two shots of the dog waiting outside the pet shop. The other one has someone emerging from inside.
I was filling up the hire car with petrol, when I glanced over to this street behind the station. Left the family in the car while I captured a couple of shots :-) (so patient they were)

Baxter Creek Trail footbridge over Big Creek, Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
So I went to the Big Creek section of the park with my dog Lulu, hoping to hike to Mouse Creek Falls, but to my disappointment found that dogs are not allowed on trails in the park. How dumb is that?
The hike is two miles, which means that at a slow pace, checking out the landscape, it would take me a hour to get to the falls, an hour to photograph the falls, and one hour back. That's three hours. I find it inhumane to leave a dog in the car for three hours, so basically the park service is inhumane for not allowing dogs on their trails. I understand that dogs and horses don't mix, but on a trail as accessible as the Big Creek trail it doesn't make sense to not allow the casual user of the park to hike with their dog.
Enjoy this photo, because so far this is all I've got from GSMNP.
Not a fence but railings. On the prom at Lyme Regis, Dorset.
I was thinking, maybe there was a fence previously and the railings replaced it so that would have been a sea de-fence!!!! LOL! :-D
One minute exposure during blue hour. The warm glow on the pavement is from lights on the buildings behind me.
Might just qualify for Fence Friday? HFF!
Morning light at Upper Catawba Falls. This was a rare bit of sunshine for this rainy summer we are having.
I was out without my assistant--good thing too, as this heron just about landed in front of me. I think these are just beautiful birds, and I always feel fortunate when I get a sighting, as they are a bit shyer than the egrets.
No Dogs :-(
Good strange sign spot by my regular photostream contributor David on his travels at Port Isaac in Cornwall (UK) and the photograph is posted here with kind permission.

There were three waterfalls in our itinerary for Glacier National Park and Baring Falls was the first one. There was a direction board but the distance wasn't in meters. It said 0.5 miles or 500 yards (don't remember which) which non of us was familiar. So there was a small cascade after approximately 400 METERs. We thought that's the Baring Falls, so took some photos, put a tick on the itinerary and started walking back. But it didn't match with the map we had.. some hiking trails were missing. Since we were in somewhat high elevation compared to the lake we decided to walk again down the stream. After couple of minutes we heard the sound of water hammering the ground. Voila! that's the actual Baring Falls.
Dear Mr. Park Manager, please note that the rest of the world doesn't use the inconvenient imperial units anymore. So when you make those direction boards for visitors please consider having some INTERNATIONAL units, at least within brackets :P
