The endangered Nilgiri tahr seems to be pretty unafraid of humans. This supports the fact: it is not endangered because it has been hunted, but because it has lost most of its habitat to humans. It has pretty profligate eating habits. It loves to eat wild flowers, and will often pull a bush out of the ground only to munch on some flowers. Here it paused in decimating some roadside Lantana to give me its best profile.
Niligiri mountain railway connects the beautiful southern hill stations of Ooty,Coonoor,Wellington,Lovedale to each other. As the engine slowly chugs along, one is presented view of beautiful mountains, magnificent tea-estates, picturesque valleys and long dark tunnels. The engine is Swiss made steam locomotive about a century old. The railway was conceptualized in 1854 and opened for public in 1899 . Now it is acknowledged as a world heritage site. It is no less a wonder that this toy train is still alive and throbbing, carrying tourists season after season, for more than a century now.

Nilgiris or Blue Mountains are awash with colourful flowers. After a short trip I came back with so many photos of different flowers and plants. Considering the cooler climate, the flowers are very different from what we see in the plains. Most were brought from Europe by the British who felt at home in the Nilgiri mountains. Like these dancing ballerina. Take a look at the next few pages for some more exotic flowers.
I wished everyone a great splash last December. As they say, one should be careful what one wishes for. What a splash there was in 2008! Worldover. Now 2009 should be different.
Let there be dance. Let there be colour. Let prosperity bloom. I wish you all a a very happy 2009.
