GOING AWAY NOTICE

I still have many photographs to upload from my trip to Brittany in early May, in particular a hopefully interesting series on the Romanesque abbey of Daoulas which I had never visited before. However, I will not begin this series today, as tomorrow I leave for a 10–day trip through France to photograph some of the most famous Romanesque abbeys and churches the country has to offer, not to mention some (doubtlessly) marvelous pre-Romanesque monuments.

It is mostly a personal trip, but also a commissioned one, as on my to-do list are the abbey churches of Souillac and of La Charité-sur-Loire, which are currently the object of crowdfunding campaigns via the “Mission Stéphane Bern” (www.missionbern.fr/), which is part of one of my foundations, the Fondation du Patrimoine.

During that trip, I will of course check my Flickr groups at least once a day, but there will be no uploads as the iPad I bring with me is not at all a good tool to do that. I will resume uploading the photos from Brittany upon my return, and that will give me time to process the shots taken during the trip.

Once again, I wish to thank very sincerely all of you who care to follow my stream and leave me faves and comments. I will be back soon and I hope I can continue to entertain you!

The Pointe Saint-Mathieu (Saint Matthew Point) is one of those westernmost tips Brittany extends into the Atlantic Ocean like thin, pointy or crooked fingers. For a long time, it fought with its sibling the Pointe du Raz for the title of “Last Land before America”, even though modern scientific tools now tell us that it is a third protuberance, and a much less vaunted one, that is actually the westernmost: the Pointe de Corsen, just a few kilometers north of Saint-Mathieu.

Regardless, Saint-Mathieu wins hands down in terms of real estate, as on this unlikely tip of land high above the ocean and battered by the wind were built, and can still be seen today: a lighthouse and a semaphore (those are not surprising), but also an abbey founded around Year 500 by Saint Tanguy, and a parish church originally built in the 600s...

That’s a lot of old stones, with even the lighthouse being one of the oldest (built in 1835) and listed as a Historic Landmark (the semaphore is modern and operated by the Navy). However, most of the stones that can be seen today are not quite so old: the abbey church and its grandiose ruins were built between 1157 and 1208 by Benedictine monks (with a lot of remodeling during the 14th and 15th centuries), and the parish church, which had fallen into ruin, was rebuilt in 1881. It can be seen on the right in this photo. A splendid Gothic double gate from the 1300s, which used to be that of the church, has also been rebuilt nearby, as I will show in further uploads.

I had hoped to get out today with the camera, but as usual the weather didn't play ball. So decided on a some macro for a change.

Set-up was as follows:- Nikon D610 & Tamron 90mm Macro Lens mounted on my Tripod.

Nikon SB700 Flash mounted on the cameras Hot Shoe.

I took a sheet of A3 paper propped against a vase and meshed he forks together and balanced the egg between them.

The flash was bounced off of the ceiling and I pointed a small touch that created the reflections in the background between the camera and forks & egg.

The image was processed in ACR with some editing in Photoshop CS6 and the Black & White high-key effect was created in Nik Silver Efex.

Lightroom and Nik edits. Thanks for your appreciation, Gail

I needed some sunlight and found these beauties to play with Color Efex Pro 3.0 Ink.

The area was fenced off because of wood rot. so I reached over the fence and placed my Camera on the ground and pressed the shutter.

After taking a photo of this beach (Martinique Beach, Nova Scotia) I then took another photo in the opposite direction. Then in photoshop I took the second photo and merged it onto the sunglasses of the first photo to create this image.

This is another shot from my stop in the South Side last night. There are a few imperfections I was unable to correct due to the lack of the right software. There's a light streak along the right side of walkway from a biker with a headlight on his bike and a few spots that look like little prisms when this is in color. They only appear when I'm taking long exposures and I have no idea what they are or how to avoid or correct them, so if anybody can tell me what they are I would appreciate the feedback. Other than those 2 little things, I'm really happy w/ how this came out.
