Geschichte

Die erste urkundliche Nachricht erhalten wir durch eine Konsekration. Am 1. August 1441 wird die Kirche mit drei Altären und dem Friedhof zu Ehren von St. Maria und den Hl. Drei Königen, Andreas, Sebastian, Antonius Abt, Maria Magdalena und Theodul geweiht. Verschiedene Einbauten und Umbauten in den Jahren 1712 und 1757.

Baubeschrieb

Rechteckiges Schiff mit dreiseitig geschlossenem Chor. Von den früheren spätgotischen Fenstern ist noch ein Fischblasenmasswerk am Turahus vorhanden. Der Chorbogen ist rund und beidseitig breit gefast. Über dem Schiff liegt eine trapezförmige Leistendecke aus dem 18. Jh.

Turm: Dieser steht an der Südseite des Schiffes. Im Süden eine rundbogige geschlossene Scharte, einfache Lichtschlitze, Zeltdach mit Plattenbelag.

Malereien: Über den Fenstern stammen von 1757.

Ausstattung

Taufstein um 1503 entstanden, polygonale Kanzel.

Abendmahlsgeräte: Louis-Seize-Kelch, Schraubkanne aus Zinn.

Glocke: Aus den Jahren 1454 und 1663 mit Inschriften.

Die Gabel wurde vom Neuenburger Plastikkünstler Jean-Pierre Zaugg zum 10-jährigen Jubiläum des Alimentariums erschaffen. Dieses Kunstwerk aus Inox (8 Meter hoch und 1,3 Meter breit) wurde im Februar 1995 für ein Jahr im See, vor dem Museum aufgestellt.

Trotz Unterstützung durch die Stadt Vevey gelang es dem Alimentarium 1996 nicht, die gesetzliche Erlaubnis für die definitive Aufstellung der Gabel zu erhalten. Die Gabel musste Vevey verlassen und schmückte fortan den Garten der Besteckfabrik Berndorf in Littau (LU).

Aus Anlass der Sonderausstellung „Bestecke entdecken“ kam die Gabel 2007 wieder an ihren alten Standort am Genfersee zurück. Im Frühjahr des gleichen Jahres wurde eine Petition für ihr definitives Verbleiben eingereicht. Die Stadtverwaltung von Vevey setzte sich ihrerseits ebenfalls für dieses Vorhaben ein und diesmal mit Erfolg. Ende 2008 entschied der Kanton Waadt, dass die Gabel in Zukunft Teil der Landschaft vom Genfersee sein darf. Seit dem Jahr 2014 ist sie als grösste Gabel der Welt im Guinness Buch der Rekorde eingetragen...
