Der Silsersee – Lei da Segl auf Rätoromanisch – liegt im Engadin in den Gemeinden Sils und Bregaglia. Der Bündner Bergsee befindet sich auf einer Höhe von 1797 Metern über Meer. Der westlichste der drei Oberengadiner Seen wird vor allem vom Inn gespiesen, welcher am Ostende bei Sils auch wieder abfliesst. Der Silsersee ist etwa fünf Kilometer lang, maximal gut eineinhalb Kilometer breit und hat eine maximale Tiefe von über 70 Metern. Dadurch ist er der grösste See im ganzen Kanton Graubünden.

Buch von „Also sprach Zarathustra“ im Sommer 1883, die Schrift „Jenseits von Gut und Böse“ (Aufzeichnungen dazu im Sommer 1885), die Konzeption wichtiger Vorreden zu früheren Schriften (Sommer 1886), die Streitschrift „Zur Genealogie der Moral“ (verfasst im Juli 1887), schliesslich die „Götzendämmerung“ und „Der Antichrist“ (beide im Sommer 1888).
