Das Grossmutterloch

Der Legende nach war der Teufel einst so wütend, dass er seine Grossmutter an die Felswand geschleudert habe. Geologen erklären das Phänomen vielmehr mit dem natürlichen Prozess der Gesteinserosion. Der 5×15 m grosse Schlitz in der Felswand bietet insbesondere zwischen November und Februar ein viel fotografiertes Naturereignis. Dann strahlt nämlich jeweils für ein paar Minuten die tiefstehende Sonne hindurch.

600 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel gelegen gehört die Kirche von San Barnàrd zu den wenigen Denkmäler von nationaler Bedeutung (Kategorie A), die sich in der Region Bellinzona befinden.

Da es über keine Strasse sondern nur mit der Seilbahn (oder zu Fuss über beschwerliche Pfade) erreicht werden kann, ist dieses wichtige Denkmal wenig bekannt und wird wenig besucht, vor allem von den Tessinern.

In der Vergangenheit existierten in der Umgebung dieser beeindruckenden Kirche (deren wertvolle Fresken dank der Restaurierung in den 70er Jahren noch gut erhalten sind) einige Wohngebiete, in denen Bürger von Monte Carasso bis Ende des 17. Jahrhuderts ansässig waren.
