Without words. - Pfeiffer Beach, Big Sur, California

...Well...almost.

500px: 500px.com/photo/55804944

If you've not followed the news on the Big Sur fire it was devastating, and so many people were so drastically affected. The road to Pfeiffer is currently closed due to the fire so our host took us the back way, high into the hills where we could see the damage and finally down into the entrance to Pfeiffer.

Sunday we had Pfeiffer Beach all to ourselves. That's completely unheard of this time of year as photographers from around the world flock to the famous beach to witness the sun set directly in the keyhole arch. But Sunday we were the only ones (other than a handful of locals and a few brave workers who'd helped contained the fire) and the conditions were perfect. No footprints in front of the arch. None. It was said, "we are the luckiest photographers on the planet," and I couldn't agree more.

Kodiak Greenwood it was an absolute honor to meet you. I can't wait to see your shots from tonight and hope to see you again soon. All the best and I really can't thank you enough for giving us the opportunity to experience Pfeiffer in such a remarkable way.

Saturday was a cold and blustery February Day. Just the way winter should be. The total overcast in the morning gave way to this more moody sky in the afternoon. Five exposure HDR processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2, Conversion to monochrome with Nik Silver Efex Pro 2

The Tide Marker in the Dee estuary, Flint, North Wales. UK. The weather was very overcast with flat light which lends itself to this hi key shot.

I write.... I delete... I write again, then delete. So many thoughts, but no words for this scene.

On top of the world.....

Madliena Tower (Maltese: Torri tal-Madliena), originally known as Torre della Paulina,[1] is a small watchtower in Madliena, limits of Pembroke, Malta. It was completed in 1658 as the fourth of the De Redin towers. The British built an artillery battery next to the tower in 1908–1909, and the tower and battery remained in use until World War II. Today, the battery no longer exists but the tower is in good condition.

Today, the original tower and World War II emplacement are intact, but very little remains of the Night Practice Battery have survived. Over time there were some makeshift modifications and structures built adjacent to the tower. The original door at the second level was filled in and was no longer visible, while the commemorative plaque was replaced by a slab of limestone. A steel door was added at the base of the tower.

The tower was handed to the NGO Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna in 2009.

Since then, it has been restored with funds from the European Regional Development Fund. Throughout the course of restoration, the original doorway was reopened, and structural damage was repaired.

Long time no see, Flickr. Apologies to those who still consider me to be a contact. What can I say? It has been a very long time since I took the camera out but, alone and miserable on New Year’s Eve, I decided it was time I did something with some of these images clogging up my hard disk. A month later and I have finally made a start!

Here’s one from almost four years ago. Stunning conditions on the outskirts of Sheffield. Might have another go at this one; there’s some weirdness in the sky that only appears on uploading to Flickr. Grrr.

A coloured edit of this shot of the stairs of the "Goetheturm" in Frankfurt was one of the first shots I uploaded here on flickr.

This time I used Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro for a slightly different crop and handeling of lens distortion, a better balance of light and correction of the highlights and the black&white edit.

A shot of the Panda topiary just outside the China pavilion. This topiary really fit this pavilion and though I was a bit upset that the dragon that usually sits in the reflection pool wasn't there, this was great. Please let me know what you think and as always, Enjoy!
