Looking across Lake Wakatipu, Mount Cecil ascends from the distant shore, its peak hidden by a layer of clouds from which the Milky Way then seems to rise into the star-filled night sky of South Island New Zealand.

Enjoyed some time of real peace , during that photoshoot.

55 Chevy Pickup under the stars. 8 images taken for the sky, stacked in Sequator to reduce noise. 8 more images were lit by strategic use of small flashlight. All combined in Photoshop.

Comet NEOWISE was still quite bright on 2020-07-19 and a glorious site under dark skies. I captured this nightscape near Goldendale, WA using two 45 second exposures, one with star tracking enabled for the sky and another with it disabled for a crisp foreground. The natural contrast between comet, sky and trees made for a compelling black and white composition.

Milky Way - Shenandoah National Park, VA

Did you know that the Milky Way is now hidden from a third of humanity? The problem: light pollution. And the problem is growing steadily each year. I have noticed a lot more light pollution in Big Meadows night shoots this year, as compared to previous years. And if you shoot from an overlook like I done w/ this photo, your end result will most likely look like this. I'm grateful that I can still see the MW from SNP, but it'd be nice to view it in complete darkness.

The Milky Way, the brilliant river of stars that has dominated the night sky and human imaginations since time immemorial, is but a faded memory to one-third of humanity and 80 percent of Americans, according to a new global atlas of light pollution produced by Italian and American scientists.

During this summer, we went on a 5 day trek and during the last night, the forecast was clear and I did not have much opportunities this year to capture the night sky so I decided to stay up all night. And what a treat… I was super cold as you can imagine being up at night.
