On a humid afternoon threatening rain, Canadian Pacific SD70ACUs 7001 and 7025, in the course of reblocking their train, have moved down to the east throat of Muskego Yard in Milwaukee, pausing while the conductor lines a switch. I don't often do roster shots, but it's hard to turn one down with a pair like this.
Last weekend I spent 2 days in a hide in the forest.
I was quit surprised when a Common Kingfisher lady came at the setting (twice).
First in the early morning for a shorter period and in the afternoon more than an hour.
She got a nice catch. Her left foot looked a bit strange, but for the rest she looked great and very active. Let's hope the foot won't bother her too much.
From a hide, on base tripod with gimbal head.

Ferruginous hawk is the largest hawk on the North American Continent and one of 3 raptors with feathers that grow down to their ankles(my scientific term). The light phase is much more common and the stockings looks like a V when observed from below which is diagnostic for this hawk. Not common in southern cal, but in winter we usually get a few that come down from the north.
With apologies to Gaelic speakers for the title!

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
Give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away...
- from Kodachrome by Paul Simon ( selected lyrics )
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Eastman Kodak Co. said Monday that it’s retiring its most senior film because of declining customer demand in an increasingly digital age.
Kodachrome, the world’s first commercially successful color film, was immortalized in song by Paul Simon and spent 74 years in Kodak’s portfolio. It enjoyed its heyday in the 1950s and ’60s but in recent years has nudged closer to obscurity. Sales of Kodachrome are now just a fraction of 1 percent of the company’s total sales of still-picture films, and only one commercial lab in the world still processes it.
Those numbers and the unique materials needed to make it persuaded Kodak to call its most recent manufacturing run the last, said Mary Jane Hellyar, outgoing president of Kodak’s Film, Photofinishing and Entertainment Group.
“Kodachrome is particularly difficult (to retire) because it really has become kind of an icon,” Hellyar said.
