CN 500's power is running arounds its train with CN 4139 & BNSF 2262 as it passes over Wellington Street.
Tulips arrive early, not as early as the Crocus who sometimes have to punch right thru the snow to get our attention. But here they are. I stopped and gave it a couple minutes. It seemed to deserve some attention, sitting quietly in the ground slowly growing into a bulb, then flowering. It takes time. Next time, watch as people walk up, they always seem to say "nice flower" then immediately walk off.

This sliver of a build in Nice France must give residents a great, if narrow, perch to view streetlife below! It also creates a great jagged skyscape from this angle!
I was getting into my car to head to the store on a somewhat cool late spring morning (Durham, NC USA) when I saw this fly by. It basked in various sunny spots for some time.
Mourning Cloak - Nymphalis antiopa (wingspan 6-10 cm!)
So fresh, I am guessing it is a new member of the summer brood. This is not a species I have noted in the area previously. I do have one willow sapling, and that can be a host plant. I'll keep my eyes open for caterpillars. Happy Wing Wednesday!
