I'm not quite sure what the message was supposed to be here, but it was among many other painted messages in the basement of an old mill where alcoholics anonymous meetings took place. Ironically, the mill had also, at some point, been turned into a bar. I don't know if the AA meetings operated at the same time as the bar was in business, but the confusing messages just added to the juxtaposition of the two locales. © 2013-Current.
It's hard to believe that places like this once housed individuals who had mental or psychological issues, crammed in small rooms and mostly forgotten about. This particular institution was an entire low-security "village" that was isolated from the outside world. Here, mentally challenged kids would learn how to do menial tasks and then be integrated back into the general population. Unfortunately, very little was done to prepare them with the knowledge that the outside world wouldn't be nearly as understanding as their caretakers or coworkers/fellow students inside the village. © 2014-Current.
