A Great Horned Owl takes flight a bit early than usual`from a Cypress tree with Spanish moss all around. Thanks to the over cast evening, the Owls came out early. He is a formidable predator, that can take large prey, including raptors such as Ospreys, Peregrine Falcons, Prairie Falcons, and other owls. Great Horned Owls are covered in extremely soft feathers that insulate them against the cold winter weather and help them fly very quietly in pursuit of prey. Their short, wide wings allow them to maneuver among the trees of the forest.Great Horned Owls usually gravitate toward secondary-growth woodlands, swamps, orchards, and agricultural areas.
In honor of National Wildflower Week, here is a freshly bloomed Rain Lily (Cooperia pedunculata) as she stretches her dew-covered petals during the early hours of a quiet spring morning. Texas, 2019.
According to the experts at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, there are over 2,700 species of native wildflowers in Texas alone! This means the handful of species I’ve shared here are just a drop in the bucket of wildflowers that exist!
It’s easy to misunderstand wildflowers to exist only for the sake of beauty, but let’s not forget the important roles wildflowers play in keeping an ecosystem healthy, as well as providing food and shelter for wildlife and humans, in both direct and indirect ways. 🌸
I hope you can take some time to spend outdoors, and appreciate these colorful creations now before most of them fade away into the hot hot summer. ☀️🌻

Really, the only way I can describe this morning. I woke up around 6am thinking sunrise was still at 7. But, due to the time change I miscalculated and ran behind. I could of went back to sleep, but instead I quickly rolled out of bed, threw on some sandals and bolted for my "magic road".
It seemed like an eternity driving through the thick, dense fog. Higher, and higher I'd climb with no hope in site of breaking through the clouds. I rounded one last bend, and like out of a scene of a fairy tale the clouds opened up and a magical orange glow casts on hoar frost covered trees and with one more bend I poked through the clouds. Almost, as if I was on an airplane taking off from the airport. Clouds zipping by, and an incredible golden hour making for some moody light I began to go photo crazy.
This is truly a road, that just keeps giving.

This image was taken in 2014 on a photo safari in the Serengeti. As we began our daily morning drive it was completely dark and there was not much to shoot. Soon the sun began to rise over the horizon and we saw this Bull elephant walking in the distance.

You pass a place a hundred times without paying attention to some details, then suddenly something pushes you to better explore what you thought you knew and it is a joy, there is more to discover.
A narrow and dark valley, a treasure chest where the trees grow very high to seek light and a small stream where beautiful trout grow which with the winter floods will end up in the main river. Fables really exist

Often regarded as the most beautiful arch in the world, Delicate Arch stands 65 feet (20m) above the steep sandstone formations below. Delicate Arch is the most recognizable feature of Arches National Park and is an icon of the state of Utah. The Delicate Arch was formed from Entrada Sandstone which was gradually worn away by weathering and wind erosion over millions of years. Delicate Arch is accessible through a moderate 1.5 mile (2.4km) hike up steep slickrock and around narrow rock ledges. On the horizon lies the snow-capped La Sal Mountains which contrasts the deep colors of the surrounding Entrada Sandstone.
“A weird lovely fantastic object out of nature, like Delicate Arch, has the curious ability to remind us — like rock and sunlight and wind and wilderness — that out there is a different world, older and greater and deeper by far than ours” – Edward Abbey
