"Manzanar National Historic Site
In 1942, the United States Government ordered over 110,000 men, women and children to leave their homes and detained them in remote, military style camps. Two thirds of them were born in America. Not one was convicted of espionage or sabotage.
For 10,000 of them, Manzanar would be their new home."
Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten internment camps during WWII. Many of the people sent here were native-born American citizens. They were not spies. They were not saboteurs. They were not criminals. They were not prisoners of war. They were not foreign agents. They were held prisoner here for no reason other than their Japanese heritage.
Manzanar is located just outside of Independence, CA, about half way between Reno and Los Angeles along US 395. The remains of the camp are now a National Historic Site, which is open to the public and free. There is a museum about the Japanese Internment of WWII and life in the camps. A self-guided auto tour will take you through the site of the camp.
Your Complacency Kills Us is a temporary exhibit created by Parkland survivors on 3/26/19 on the Capitol grounds.

August 14, 2019 - Day 14 - Never Again Is Now & If Not Now

"Never Again Action and IfNotNow Bay Area have been invited to join the Month of Momentum: Close the Camps campaign. Every day for the month of August, people will be rallying outside ICE's San Francisco Office to call out the evil of the concentration camps along our southern border.
Jewish activists, rabbis, and allies will hold space, pray, and join in solidarity with our immigrant family and friends. We will not let history repeat itself."

Activists of all ages gathered for an afternoon of art, music and politics at our third Democracy Cafe in Mill Valley. This month, we looked into solutions to end gun violence, through a range of activities designed to inspire us to action. We started the day by making signs for the ‘March for Our Lives’ rally. We then sang along with the Freedom Singers. Marin County Supervisor Kate Sears led a group discussion on gun reform. Young singer Emma Spike performed songs of hope, and music director Reed Fromer led a final sing-along with some classic tunes about social change.
This free public event took place on Sunday, March 18th from 2 to 5pm, at the O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley. We were delighted to see many young people come make their own signs against gun violence, then stay to sing and talk with us.
Thanks to all our friends and neighbors who came to join their voices, minds and hearts to energize each other and create a better world. Kudos to our co-hosts Marilyn Price, Jennifer Tomkins, Rebecca Brackman, Grace Severtson -- and everyone who helped us organize this uplifting community event.
Democracy Cafe is a series of free creative and civic events led by Fabrice Florin and a growing community of activists and artists in Marin. We think making art, playing music and talking with people of all ages and backgrounds can build mutual understanding and engage us to take meaningful political action together.

The new ACTU president was making her second visit to Corangamite in a matter of days to host and moderate a candidate’s debate on WorkChoices. Sarah Henderson, the Liberal candidate, refused the invitation to debate after she discovered it was on industrial relations but Darren Cheeseman, ALP member, Sally Ann Brown, Independent candidate and Mike Lawrence, the Greens vigorously debated the issues.
