Consider if this is a man
Who works in the mud
Who does not know peace
Who fights for a scrap of bread
Who dies because of a yes or a no.
Consider if this is a woman,
Without hair and without name
With no more strength to remember,
Her eyes empty and her womb cold
Like a frog in winter.
Meditate that this came about.
Considerate se questo è un uomo
Che lavora nel fango
Che non conosce pace
Che lotta per un pezzo di pane
Che muore per un sì o per un no.
Considerate se questa è una donna,
Senza capelli e senza nome
Senza più forza di ricordare
Vuoti gli occhi e freddo il grembo
Come una rana d'inverno.
Meditate che questo è stato.
If this is a man / Se questo è un uomo

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is an international memorial day on January 27th commemorating the tragedy of the Holocaust that occurred during the Second World War. It commemorates the genocide that resulted in the deaths of 6 million Jews and 11 million others, by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 60/7 on 1 November 2005 during the 42nd plenary session. The resolution came after a special session was held earlier that year on 24 January 2005 during which the United Nations General Assembly marked the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps and the end of the Holocaust.
On 27 January 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp, was liberated by the Red Army.
"For ever let this place be a cry of despair and a warning to humanity, where the nazis murdered about one and a half million men, women and children, mainly jews from various countries of Europe Auschwitz-Birkenau 1940 - 1945."
Auschwitz-Birkenau 1940 - 1945".

I made up my mind and have not returned to the yellow warbler's nest. This was taken during my original visit and I see no harm in sharing it. For the good times....

International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27
The UN General Assembly designated January 27—the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau—as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. To remember this day gives us a task for everyday: to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that lead to violation of human rights.

View of the crater lake on the Rinjani volcano. Panoramic stitch of 9 portrait format images. The crater rim is at 2600m. altitude, the trail to get there involves a grueling 2000m. vertical and 9.5km. horizontal ascent in a single day, this is definitely not a leisurely walk along a babbling brook, I could barely walk down any steps for the 3 days following the descent. The trail starts in the hot jungle with a gazillion percent humidity and gets steeper and steeper. I'm still not sure if it was worth the effort. The summit is the peak to the left, I did not go that far, but it's also very difficult, first you have to go 600m. (vertical) down to the lake and climb up an additional 1700m. with a sandy ascent near the summit.
Gunungbagging is also the name of a website about climbing mountains in Indonesia, below is a link to the Rinjani page:

In the November pogrom of 9 to 10 November 1938 synagogues, prayer houses and shops of Jews were devasted in Germany. It was the beginning of the systematic persecution of Jews which led to the Holocaust. To remember this day gives us a task for everyday: to counter antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance that lead to violation of human rights.
A single atomic bomb indiscriminately killed tens of thousands of people, profoundly disrupting and altering the lives of the survivors. Through belongings left by the victims, A-Bombed artifacts, testimonies of A-bomb survivors and related materials, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum conveys to the world the horrors and the inhumane nature of nuclear weapons and spreads the message of ‘No more Hiroshimas’.

Dezember dauern.
The Women's March against Donald Trump proceeding along 42nd Street in New York City on January 21st, 2017. Shot with the Olympus E-M1, 75mm F1.8. 400,000 people participated in this march.
The prisoners sent to the death camps were divided. Men went to one side, while women had their hair shaved off. Men, women and children were all told to strip. Naked, they were led to the "showers". As they passed through the doorway, they were given bars of soap to make them believe that there was still hope. Some believed it. Most smelled the stench of the camp and knew the truth. Mothers held their babies close to them. People began to pray; some sang. The SS men shoved them into the gas chambers, packing them in so closely they stood on each other's feet.

No entendí nada".

“There was a place... / “C'era un posto...
...called the ramp where the trains with the Jews were coming in. They were coming in day and night, sometimes one per day and sometimes five per day…” - Survivor, Auschwitz.
- Superstite, Auschwitz.

Czesława Kwoka was born in Wólka Złojecka, a small village in Poland, to a Catholic mother, Katarzyna Kwoka. Along with her mother, was deported from Zamość, Poland, to Auschwitz, on 13 December 1942. On 12 March 1943, less than a month after her mother died (18 February 1943), Czesława Kwoka died at the age of 14; the circumstances of her death were not recorded.
"She was so young and so terrified. The girl didn't understand why she was there and she couldn't understand what was being said to her. So this woman Kapo (a prisoner overseer) took a stick and beat her about the face. Before the photograph was taken, the girl dried her tears and the blood from the cut on her lip. To tell you the truth, I felt as if I was being hit myself but I couldn't interfere. It would have been fatal for me". Wilhelm Brasse

Wilhelm Brasse

I feel the suffering of millions.
