...called the ramp where the trains with the Jews were coming in. They were coming in day and night, sometimes one per day and sometimes five per day…” - Survivor, Auschwitz.

A lesson from the Holocaust that a series of billboards around Berlin reminds us of is "The 11th Commandment: Don't be indifferent. Indifference kills."
Here, we see all that Eva Fahidi (see photo below) was left with after surviving Auschwitz: a family photo showing her with her parents and younger sister Gilike. Only Eva survived. Faced with her huge loss she did not feel liberated. She had to endure the past 75 years without her family.

Created for Mixmaster Challenge 38 - Chef Jaci XIV
CHEF Jaci XIV wants us to enter the world of Baroque master Caravaggio ... sort of ;-).
➤ The basis of your image must be a painting by Caravaggio** (Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio).
➤ Your manipulated image must contain a modern object that did not exist in Caravaggio’s time.
➤ There must be wine in your image whether in a transparent glass or bottle or spilled.
➤ Part or all of the background should show the night sky.
➤ No abstraction or abstract elements. (In other words, your final image – no matter how surreal in content – should have a realistic presentation.)

It was mistake to think after not taking any water drop photos for well over a year that I'd be able to set the gear up and just grab a quick shot for tonight, lesson learnt (again!) 4 hours and 220 shots later this is the best I could come up with for tonight, need to get some practice in!

After spending most of the week in D.C on business (I returned home Thursday night) and experiencing the snow storm on Wednesday, I decided to drive back on Saturday to participate in the March For Our Lives rally.
First off, notice all the snow is gone.
Second, I have never seen so many people in one place (I saw a shot from space and the estimate was at 800,000 people) and so many porta-johns (but I digress). The passion in these students restored my belief that maybe, just maybe we can return our Gov't back to the people and out of the hands of the special interest groups (read that as NRA). Time will tell...
Some of these pics and a few others will get posted so you can read the small print. anyone care to guess what I've been working on today.

Israel began marking its annual Holocaust Remembrance Day at sundown on Wednesday.
In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."

"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.
Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never."

This photo was taken by my father during the Second World War. He was flying supply lines in North Africa. I'm not sure which of the many planes that he flew this is, though it's most likely a Dakota. I'm sure someone out there knows.
Never Forget. Never again.
On January 27th 1945 concentration camp Auschwitz in Poland was liberated, where at least 1.1 million people were killed. And I remember summer of 2019, when I found a dead swallow in the women's barracks at these death camp.
In many cultures, a swallow is a symbol of hope. What if the bird is dead? Perhaps it symbolizes the dead hope of the victims? Or maybe it was the soul of the dead, as dead swallows were called in ancient Greece?
#neveragain was on January 27. If he had lived in Germany today, what would little Albert say, who perhaps collected acorns under this tree to make coffee? What about Joseph, who always came by there after school? The many summer evenings were filled with hours of conversation. Else was often there, playing her violin. What happened to Helene, who loved to sit by the lake, covered in the gold of the evening sun? Why Erich, who collected flowers in the meadow, never came back? Only the trees were already there when forced laborers built a farm less than an hour and a half from here. Less than an hour and a half from here, in the other direction, there is now a memorial to a concentration camp. An empty house, an abandoned farm and nobody talks about them. #neveragain is every day. Maybe they had other names. But they were right here.

A very moving memorial to the 240 French soldiers who died in captivity in Darmstadt during WW1. It shows a mortally wounded soldier looking back to a relief of his family and the female figure of France. May it never happen again.
