Safety netting surrounds the upper two floors of the north side of the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington, D.C.

The Hoover Building is located at 935 Pennsylvania Avenue NW and is the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Planning for the building began in 1962, and a site formally selected in January 1963. Design work began in 1963 and was largely complete by 1964. Ground was broken in March 1965, and it was complete in September 1975. Its cost doubled from $60 million to $120.1 million. Tt has been widely condemned on aesthetic and urban planning grounds, and called "the ugliest building in D.C."

Structural problems became apparent around 2001. In 2006, a piece of the concrete facade came loose and fell onto the sidewalk on busy Pennsylvania Avenue NW. A contractor removed loose concrete from the exterior, and construction netting was hung around the upper floors to prevent additional pieces of concrete from crashing to the ground.

The building is widely considered to be in very poor shape, and the FBI would like to move to vastly larger quarters. The city wants the building torn down.

Championship three-peat for Crusaders.Richey, Dufficy spark potent offense against Tigers.D3 BOYS' BASKETBALL FINAL: WHITINSVILLE CHRISTIAN 72, LITTLETON 60.By Tom Flanagan CORRESPONDENT..FITCHBURG— All season, Whitinsville Christian star Colin Richey has been using his words to convey his belief that the Crusaders were more than a one-man team. .Yesterday, the junior guard used something else to prove his point — the basketball. ..While Richey had his share of acrobatic moves and fancy finishes, his sharing of the ball to get teammates involved helped propel Whitinsville Christian to a 72-60 win over Littleton in the Central Mass. Division 3 championship game at Fitchburg State University. ..The Crusaders, the defending state champions and winners of three straight Central Mass. titles, will meet St. Joseph's of Pittsfield (19-5) at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in a state semifinal at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. ..Littleton, the tournament's No. 5 seed, finished 18-7. ..Richey, who finished with 20 points, consistently commanded the attention of two or three Tigers, which opened plenty of space for Tim Dufficy and Jesse Dykstra. ..Dufficy did most of his damage on the perimeter — getting very comfortable in the left corner, from where he canned three 3-pointers in the first half on his way to a game-high 26 points. ..“Tim was wide open at times,” said Richey, who wasn't at full strength because of an ankle injury. “Having guys like him out there if a team collapses on the dribble is great. You just can't leave him open. He made (Littleton) pay when they did.” ..Dufficy didn't exactly step off the bus brimming with confidence, but shook the jitters when he buried a trey on the Crusaders' first possession. ..“I didn't have a great shooting night at all in our last game (against Keefe Tech), but, luckily, my teammates had the confidence in me to get me the ball when I was open,” he said. “Playing with Colin, I know I'll probably get some open shots, and I was able to hit a lot of them.” ..With Richey using his ballhandling skills — particularly an effective crossover dribble that appeared impossible to defend — and Dufficy feeling it from the outside, it became a case of “pick your poison” for Littleton. ..Dykstra, a forward, had a solid inside game, netting 13 points. ..“We have a lot of kids who can play, and every night someone else steps up,” said Whitinsville Christian coach Jeff Bajema, whose team is 17-5. “(Last night) it was Tim, and Tuesday, it will be somebody else. That's how we win.” ..The Crusaders took a 19-13 lead after the first quarter on the strength of a 10-1 run, and poured it on in a dominating second quarter to build a 45-23 lead. ..While the Whitinsville Christian faithful may have spent halftime googling for information on St. Joe's, Richey knew the game was far from decided. ..“This is the fourth Central Mass. final I've been in as a player, and I knew (Littleton) was going to make a run — good teams always do.” Richey said. “They're a good team, and (Tiger junior) Chris Murray is one of the best players in the area.” ..Murray backed up the high praise and helped prove Richey prophetic, as Littleton's 1,000-point scorer shook off a slow first half and erupted for 15 points after intermission. ..Murray, who finished with a team-high 17, converted a three-point play with 6:55 left to cut the Crusaders' lead to 55-41. ..An offensive rebound and bucket from Alvin Muhwezi (10 points) and a strong drive and finish from Murray sliced the lead to 55-45 with 5:02 left, prompting Bajema to take a timeout. ..The Tigers got nine points from junior captain Ryan Sullivan, playing his first game since undergoing shoulder surgery...from www.telegram.com/article/20120311/NEWS/103119896/1152/hom...

Before we went to bed, I checked outside to make sure everything was OK. None of the plants had blown over and this netting was still in place.

Following a night of gale force winds and gusts up to 100km per hour, some of the pots have blown over but not broken and the net has torn away at the bottom allowing it to blow like a sail.

Fortunately, I doubled the net over a length of wire which holds it securely at the top. Once the wind has died down, it will be an easy job to re-secure the bottom.

In spring, I will buy new netting because this has become tatty with all the wind that has hit it. Thankfully netting like this isn't expensive and relatively easy to put up.

In the meantime, our privacy is in tatters.

Hastings has been a maritime centre for over a thousand years. The shingle beach has always been called the Stade. The word dates from before the 1066 battle of Hastings and means " landing place ". The Stade was origenally a small area between today's boating lake and coach park, but the building of the 1887 groyne at Rock-a-Nore and the 1896 harbour stopped shingle moving east along the coast. The result was that the Stade then steadily grew out to seaward, providing new room for the fishing fleet and many amenities. On the Stade is Britain's biggest fleet of beach-launched fishing boats. The boats have to be hauled out of the sea after each trip, which stops them being more than about ten metres long. This means that they can only carry small amounts of gear and travel just a few miles. As a result the fleet has always fished in an ecologically sound way.

Harbours built at Hastings have never given much shelter, so the boats have always had to be pulled up the beach. Each vessel has a shed containing an engine and winch, opperated by a " boy ashore " and tractors help push the craft into the sea, especially when the tide is low. Harbours have been built here since the 1500s but all have had short lives. The current wall dates from 1896.

Another interesting feature of the Stade are the historic 'net shops'. Unique to Hastings and Whitby, these are tall, wooden buildings whose unusual construction was brought about to avoid paying the land tax. The huts are used as dry storage space with the nets themselves being dried on the beach. Other places to visit in the Stade are the Fishermen's Museum, the Shipwreck Heritage centre, the Smugglers' Adventure, Underwater World and the Hastings Lifeboat Station.

sometimes the presentation of the artists' wares were as neat as the art itself at stARTS in worcester on sunday. the people who had this booth had draped this netting over the table and it seemed a fitting choice for the upcoming season. he said they had bought it from the "netman" but i looked and looked online and couldn't find him or a website.

If you think you could use this as a texture, please feel free :)
