Photographed outside Marsing, Idaho, known as "Brake stop hill. "It was 20 degrees and 20 mile per hr winds but nothing could stop me from capturing this perfectly lit view.

Tip of the day

Catch the light and you've knocked it out of the park!

Set up your camera, do a few test shots, get it all ready, sit and wait for the perfect light.

Bring birds to your garden by putting out food for them. It is like opening a bird café, isn’t it?

The crimson sunbird is a species of bird in the sunbird family which feed largely on nectar. They may also take insects, especially when feeding their young. Flight is fast and direct on their short wings. Most species can take nectar by hovering like a hummingbird, but usually perch to feed.

Soft and beautiful, this stunning Redwing sits amongst the cattails. Creating a scene can be challenging, but the foreground and background are always part of a scene.

Don't just capture a picture, capture a moment., the wildlife is waiting.

Not a bother in the world as this Blue Heron sits upon the highest branch he could find. During the editing process, I wanted to show off his under-belly feathers and the long detailed legs.

Finding good composition in a chaotic environment is an extremely hard thing to do in woodland landscape photography. If you want to challenge yourself in Landscape photography just give it a try.

A stunning photo showing the warm colors of this female elk.

She stopped long enough for a nice photo. I used a shallow depth of field for a nice clean image.

Most black flies gain nourishment by feeding on the blood of mammals, including humans, although the males feed mainly on nectar. They are usually small, black or gray, with short legs, and antennae. They are a common nuisance for humans, and many U.S. states have programs to suppress the black fly population. They spread several diseases, including river blindness in Africa (Simulium damnosum and S. neavei) and the Americas (S. callidum and S. metallicum in Central America, S. ochraceum in Central and South America). -

Since I have a lot to be thankful for, I’m posting one of my personal favorite photos of all time.

Natgeo:

This photograph was selected by National Geographic Magazine to be part of the prestigious Daily Dozen, and was featured in March of 2011. It was also invited to be part of their stock photographs at Netgeo stock. com

The Caption:

In the latter part of 2010, I was part of a mission in Gogrial, Southern Sudan under Medicins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders. I served as a surgeon for three months, during which time we were able to help hundreds of people with their medico-surgical problems. I particularly love this photograph, because in the midst of impending war, most of the people, even the children, were still able to project a strong, even inspiring sense of hope.

I will comment on your streams after a few hours...promise!

A splash and I was surrounded by darkness. I tried to get my bearings in the warm water but was unable to see the bottom. I tried to focus on the torch of my dive buddy and guide.

It was just us two in the water. All the other divers decided to grab a beer in the bar. But I grabbed the chance to go for one last dive, as it was our last night in Manado.

My eyes slowly got used to the dark, and I started to see all the splendour around me. The light of the full moon shone through the waves and a beam of light danced on the seafloor. The night fauna lit up in the light of my torch. There were animals around me which I had never seen before. Sea-dragons as large as my fingers. All with colours so much brighter at night. This was an all together magical world.

And then I saw it. I moved my hands in front of my mask leaving a trace of sparkles. Fairy dust! I looked at my fins, gently moving. Bioluminescent algae lit up the water everywhere I moved. The experience was unforgettable.

That is when I knew what it feels like to be a real life Peter Pan.

In Bangladesh, a large proportion of marine and freshwater fish landings are processed by drying. Dry fish is locally called ‘Shutki’. In winter, many fishermen catch fish mainly to make dry fish. But traditional drying methods are used in the absence of a modern dry fish preservation facility. Most of time they dry fish under sun; these dried fish can bring them profit by exporting them. The fish is also exported to different countries after meeting local demand, traders say. Demand for fish drying labor corresponds with the lunar cycle, with two high and two low weeks each month. A flexible labor force is thus required, and most workers are hired on a daily basis. These casual laborers, who often lack alternative employment options, are usually able to find work for around 15 days per month, but sometimes as few as 10. The working day runs from dawn to dusk (roughly 6.00 am to 6.00 pm), and there is a strong gender division of labor. Men perform tasks which include washing fresh fish, applying pesticides to prevent fly infestation, hanging fish up to dry on scaffolding, weighing and bagging dried product and loading it onto trucks. Women are responsible primarily for sorting fresh fish by species, tying pairs of churri and loitya together so that they can be hung up, and turning and further sorting of mixed fish species during the drying process. At least 50% of the causal laborers employed are women & child. Workers said they get daily wage of Tk 300 in addition to some raw fish.
