Nerd es un término que designa a un estereotipo de persona que persigue apasionadamente[cita requerida] actividades intelectuales[cita requerida], conocimientos variados, u otros intereses que están en edad inapropiada[cita requerida] en lugar de participar en actividades populares o sociales. Por lo tanto, un nerd es a menudo excluido[cita requerida] de las actividades físicas y se le considera un solitario por parte de sus compañeros, o tiende a asociarse con personas con ideas afines.
El término nerd se empezó a usar en los años 1970, inspirado por el filósofo Timothy Charles Paul, que usó la palabra para describir un estereotipo de persona inteligente con malas habilidades sociales, que suele ser objeto de burlas.
