For quite some time I've entertained the idea of trying to process my own BW film at home....and finally I've decided to give it a go with this being one of the first images - taken at the Rongotea Car Show on Sunday, raising funds for the local hospice.
A lovely 1958 Triumph TR3 that could obviously see into the future with its AI number plate!

When you’ve been knocked to the ground by painful circumstances outside your control sometimes it’s necessary to rest where you landed in order to care for yourself.
Captured just as I found it.
The process of making this film photo, developing the film myself at home, scanning the negative with my DSLR and converting the negative to a positive is a challenging, sometimes overwhelming, somewhat unpredictable, very rewarding, learning, growing, healing, intriguing, satisfying and therapeutic process that helps me to learn not only about film photography but also myself and my healing process in a healthy way. I am thankful for this opportunity that I can’t really explain with words.

With a milestone birthday looming, I decided to treat myself with an old camera that I've always wanted to use - a Rolleiflex 3.5F.
I find that Southwards Car Museum near Wellington is a great place to go and test an old camera and a first roll of film. I was very impressed with the quality of the shots and the accuracy of its built-in light meter given its approx 60 years of age!

An image taken on my lovely little Minolta CLE film camera. First roll of film through the camera and I'm very impressed with the quality of the image both from the camera and as well as my new camera digital scanning set up. Delivered an impressive image in both file size and quality.
Wikipedia: "The Minolta CLE is a TTL-metering automatic exposure aperture-priority 35 mm rangefinder camera using Leica M lenses, introduced by Minolta in 1980.
Leica and Minolta signed a technical cooperation agreement in June 1972. One of its results was the joint development of the Leica CL, a compact rangefinder camera introduced in 1973 and discontinued a few years later. The CLE was a new rangefinder body resembling the Leica CL."

The next piece of my learning film project was to home develop a roll of 120 format film. I headed off to the little town of Shannon, not too far away from home to see what I could find!
This DC-3 for many years was at Mangaweka as part of a service station / cafe complex but has since been moved to Shannon where it now sits looking rather unloved! A recent newspaper story tells some of it's history: www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/300923636/for-85000-you-can-f...

I've now completed my film 'scanning' set up using a digital camera rather than a flatbed scanner to digitize negatives. This is the first test scan from the finished set-up now I have my negative film holder and I'm quite pleased with the result!
