During the low water levels many of the rapids were safe to explore and swim in. Friggin cold though. A tree also randomly fell directly across from us into the water. It was dead, we weren't sure if someone knocked it down or not. We still decided to get out of there because it was kind freaky and close by.
The trip to Lata Berkoh in Taman Negara requires a boat trip upriver, through Sungai Tahan. As there is only a single path through the shallow river and the many rapids, having a good boatsman and navigator is important so not to get stuck anywhere. Sungai Tahan is unpolluted and the water is crystal clear except for the slight brownish tint from tannin released from the trees. The river bed is clearly visible (at shallow areas), and you could even see fishes swimming in it. It is that clear!
The boat rides takes us through the river which is covered by the forest canopy most of the way. This makes the boat ride the best part of the whole weekend there (the ride did not require any walking too… which adds to it :p)
