Lanceleaf Sabatia (Sabatia difformis), also called Lanceleaf Rose-gentian or White Sabatia. Many species of Sabatia have pink flowers, but this one has white flowers.
Location: The Green Swamp near Wilmington, North Carolina
Instead of heading west to the Rockies, we decided to check out Horseshoe Canyon Conservancy area for a little hike. Descending into the canyon, we did a tiny bit of elevation, and the landforms were wonderful. Recommended for an interesting short walk.

Silicon Valley was apricot orchards. This is an aerial survey done in May 1953. The Packard Estate (just off the photo to the right) is still covered with apricot trees, but all of the orchards in this photo are now homes. Page Mill Road is on the far left.
Minister Steve Thomson was in Invermere to help celebrate the protection and conservation of an ecologically and culturally important property on the east shore of Columbia Lake known as Lot 48.

A pathway at Bear Rocks Preserve in West Virginia. This was one of many rock pathways that led to the overlook of mountain ranges. You can only see half of the trees here as the wind is so harsh, it blows the leaves and branches off of one side.
Fall Creek Gorge Nature Preserve, Indiana

This area of Fall Creek is filled with potholes. The water was high making it difficult to hike around as some of the potholes are up to 3 or 4 feet deep.

This is the Learning Center at the Apalachicola Bluffs & Ravines Preserve. It was our 'base' for the week. It had a large meeting room, a full kitchen, and three bathrooms with sinks/toilets. For showering, we had a choice of outdoor showers (they were very nice!) or an indoor shower in the bathroom used by local prison inmates who also work on the preserve. The showers all had hot water, too! The only downside was that the preserve's water smells heavily of sulfur. It was tough to drink and smelled awful for bathing.
I visited the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve north of Pawhuska Oklahoma on the annual buffalo roundup. I decided to combine a few of the images of the bison into both a time lapse and photo montage along with a few of the key points I learned during the day.

According the Nature Conservancy, the Blowing Rocks Preserve has the largest outcropping of Anastasia limestone on the Atlantic Coast of the United States. The area is known as "Blowing Rocks" because waves during high tides, or during storms, rolling against the sraggy shoreline, sends fountains of foaming sea water as much as 50 feet into the air. The Anastasia limestone formations are composed of ancient shell material. Small fossils of clams and oysters are clearly visible in the rock faces.
