These pictures were taken over Labor Day weekend 2009 only 65 miles from Panama City Beach. Dog Island is small at 6.8 miles in length, accessible only by boat, ferry or airplane. The Nature Conservancy owns most of the island and there is only one hotel, the Pelican Inn

Granite rock, which is brought in by barge, is methodically placed in the Piankatank River near Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County Virginia. The rock is the basis for the newest, 25-acre oyster reef in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is overseeing the more than $2 million sanctuary reef project in partnership with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission and the Nature Conservancy. They were growing wild at the McCall Preserve, probably considered an invasive species there but that blue... not a common color in the wild, not where we come from, anyway.
IDOT donated more than $15,000 of native plants to The Nature Conservancy as part of the Corridors for Tomorrow Program. The Conservancy plans to plant them at Emiquon Preserve, which is shown in this photo.

Verkeerderkill Falls, Sam's Point Preserve, Upstate New York.
1.5 hours hike to the falls, 1.5 hours hike back.
Nikon F100, Fuji Provia F 100 film, 21mm focal length.
I was on a small ledge with my tripod, 180ft up, to get the shot.
This was really the only vantage point to photo these falls.
Slight contrast adjustment when scanning the slide.
The Cascade Head Preserve is a spectacular ocean side site, recognized as a United Nations Biosphere Reserve and a U.S. National Scenic Research Area.
The land is privately owned by The Nature Conservancy (nature.org) and is open to the public year round.
The preserve is located north of Lincoln City, Oregon.

The morning light made this tree in fall colors pop, as did the lens flare! Ramsey Canyon Nature Preserve is an oasis of beauty outside Sierra Vista, Arizona! Thanks to the Nature Conservancy and the staff and volunteer at Ramsey Canyon.

A few months ago I got an email from a woman with The Nature Conservancy in Oregon asking permission to use a photo I took in their annual report. Three copies arrived today with a lovely thank you note, I couldn't be more tickled...especially since it involves turtles.

11/7/13. Sunrise shoot at Mo'omomi Preserve (Nature Conservancy) on the north side of the island. I wandered far down the beach and managed to miss both the sunrise proper and the fabulous cliffs that everybody else took pictures of. But I still had a wonderful time. I'm pretty good company, when it comes down to it.
