I took this picture at the entrance on the Davis Mountain Preserve (owned by The Nature Conservancy). The Preserve is 33,000 acres with conservation easements on 65,830 acres of adjoining property. It includes Mount Livermore (the highest peak in the Davis Mountains). I'll try to identify the landmarks - hover your mouse over the image to see the notes.
This is the cabin we stayed in during our Nature Conservancy trip to the Davis Mountains. Mount Livermore is the top peak in the background.

Lake Russell, located within the Nature Conservancy's 12,000 acre Disney Wilderness Preserve, is one of the last remaining undeveloped lakes in central Florida. The lake, connected to Reedy Creek and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, is part of the headwaters to the Everglades. Disney Wilderness Preserve is a central component to the new Everglades Headwaters National Wildlife Refuge which the Nature Conservancy is helping create in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Historic Longleaf Pine savannas over low-lying understories of saw palmetto and wiregrass define much of the landscape, maintained my consistent fire management. Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula). The traps are modified leaves that emerge from the base of the plant. One of the traps in this photo contains the remains of a captured insect. The vertical stem in the middle is the flowering stalk. Location: Green Swamp Preserve, near Wilmington, North Carolina.

Situated along the Palomar mountain range of Southern California, is Agua Tibia Wilderness. I came here to photograph the native wildlife and learn as much about their shrinking habitat as possible. Minutes from Temecula, this wilderness provides critical refuge for many of the area's native plants and animals; including the Horned Lizard.
This trailhead starts at the end of Dripping Springs campground, just past a creekbed. You pass through a grove of Oak trees before an expanse of chaparral dominated by Red Shanks. During Summer these plants burst with white flowers. This can be a strenuous hike, especially if you go during Summer, so make sure to bring plenty of water. An adventure pass ($5) is required to park at the campgrounds.
