The waxing crescent Moon and Venus (above) over the old farm house at the Visitor Centre at the Old Man on His Back Prairie and Heritage Conservation Area in southwest Saskatchewan, May 20, 2015, on a very clear night. The old house was the original house lived in by the Butala family who settled the area in the 1920s.
This is a single exposure taken as part of an 850-frame time-lapse sequence with the 14mm Rokinon lens and Canon 60Da camera.

Sunlight shines down onto the sand and rock through a crevice that opens up into a small cave in the formation at Blowing Rocks Nature Preserve, Atlantic Coast, Jupiter Island Florida
Wetland, Woodbourne Forest and Wildlife Preserve, Susquehanna County.
The preserve, owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy, protects a large tract of old-growth hemlocks, white pines, and northern hardwoods.
Captured over two days in June with thunderstorms rolling through. Images show before, during and after the storm. Shot along Skyline Rd. in Wabaunsee County, Kansas.

Fraser Preserve boasts about 110 species of birds, including the bald eagle, and 300 varieties of wildflowers. A short hike offers glimpses of the many natural habitats found in the Piedmont region, including fast, clear streams, lush cold-spring swamp, marsh, mature hardwood forests, open meadow, ponds, river and stream floodplain forests and thickets, steep rocky bluffs, springs and seeps, and various stages of old field succession. The terrain slopes down to the Potomac River, which forms the preserve's northern boundary.
Dark, cloudy and foggy morning. Recently spotted by birdwatchers, she's actually been here since December. A friend and fellow photographer got a few shots back then, but didn't know the species or significance. This is only the second ever confirmed sighting of the Ringed Kingfisher in the state. I've been trying to learn and experiment in different shutter speeds lately. This is my first attempt at the usual waterfall-type shot, but you know what they say about cliche shots -- it's MY cliche shot :) I have no illusions that it's a great photo, but I'm learning and practicing and that's the important thing. And, it's in the middle of a gorgeous butterfly garden (we saw all of one butterfly...:)) I don't like drawing a lot of attention to myself so just setting up the tripod in a public place was a big step for me.
I used the rented 105mm f/2.8 macro lens for this shot. May seem like an odd choice but the reason wasn't really complex -- I hadn't expected to find a waterfall there, and it was on the camera at the moment. It's a very sharp and crisp lens so I just used it. :)
This is one shot I would welcome critiques on... I used shutter priority mode at 1/3 sec. and ended up setting exposure compensation to -4 due to the very bright sunlight on the rocks. I hadn't intended to have to set it so low but I kept bumping it down as I kept blowing out the rock highlights and so -4 is where it ended up. :)
Additional info: The only post processing that was done other than cropping was tonal - during the raw conversion in Bridge, I adjusted the white balance (a little too much blue in the water) and bumped up slight boosts to clarity and vibrance.

Some of the several hundreds of the American White Pelicans we saw on Thompson Lake in the Emiquon Preserve just north of Havana, Illinois.
Blowing Rocks gets it's name from the 'geyser like' spouts that shoots up through the rock formations... once in a while it's a spectacular show.
Blowing Rocks is a Nature Conservancy Preserve and is just North of Coral Cove Park on Jupiter Island on the Atlantic Coast.
A cloudless but glowing sunset after a 105-degree day; the sliver of a moon caught my eye just as the sky started to get good and dark (this was taken about 30 minutes after sunset). We were up at the family ranch (one of my favorite places on earth) for the long holiday weekend, and this was shot from a bluff overlooking the Merced River that winds through part of the property. I was blown away by how wide the river was from seasonal flooding after this year's near-record snowfall. This is not a bad thing--this stretch of the river was re-engineered to improve salmon spawning habitat, and the seasonal flooding is an important (and planned-for) part of this. If you'd like to learn more about the habitat improvement--as well as see some footage of this beautiful place--watch this video. I adore my in-laws, and am so impressed with what they've done here.
